Only one year remaining to his contract ($21.3M), by the way.

Why would the Bulls do that? The money doesn't even match

Everyone has cap room to absorb salaries. Money doesn't need to match.

Knicks could theoretically trade a second round pick for Rose and absorb his salary.

I have no answer for that.

I admit to being fascinated as to what the backcourt might look like next year and this is one of the first rumors I've seen since Hornacek came on board.

I'd be intrigued if we got Rose - he's still younger than Steph Curry and Westbrook... I just wouldn't have a lot of big expectations...

I agree. Trades of the past like Dyess, and Marbs make me worry about this. Up until now it appeared that the Knicks were looking for continuity and internal growth to be aided by a free agent or two.

he is terrible but at least he is only signed for next year.

Hell no to giving up Rolo for D.Rose who's had two serious knee injuries and has made too many comments about how he's more worried about his future than playing basketball. I don't think he loves the game as much as a guy that makes that kind of money should love it. Don't get me wrong cause i'd take him if we could get him very cheap and Calderon would have to be in the deal but no way in hell do i give up Rolo. I'd give up J.Grant before i'd give up Rolo.

Is there any scenerio where this would free up money for them to pursue some max guy like Whiteside? I don't know all the cap rules well enough

personally this would only make sense if we were essentially absorbing his contract and not giving up anything of value (and I don't know how that would be possible)

A) he only has a year left on his contract
B) if he sneezes forcefully he'll sprain something -- guy has a glass chin, and glass eveything else

i think the Bulls are going to tear things down, and don't be surprised if we hear something about that from the Grizzlies too (based on nothing i still expect to see Celts trade picks for Marc Gasol)

I didn't know this. Then maybe there's some reason to think this is being truly floated. Bulls might be chasing some other max guy

please let's not repeat the Bargnani fiasco though. Let's give them a bag of peanuts and call it even after they duped us with Curry

Because it creates more cap space for the bulls. Rose is a terrible player and they are looking to dump him. One could argue that even O'quinn is too much. This is a DAvid Lee situation where they should be paying the knicks to take on Rose's contract.

Calderon and a 2nd rd pick would do nice.

I would become a Nets fan if this happens. Please no, no, and no

My theory on this is that Chicago might believe there's some truth that Durant will sign on to play with a tandem of Butler and Horford. With Rose and Pau off the books, this gets much easier. Chicago could be looking into moving assets to push the Rose contract onto someone else. With an Afflalo/Williams opt-out, The Knicks could take on the contract for a year and maybe an asset going forward. Otherwise there's no reason to consider this...

Interesting. If KD is considering that tandem, I hope he's also considering Melo KP6. There would be some issues to figure out on how to play together in a complementary way, but it would be a more attractive option IMO primarily because KP6 will get better and better -- not clear with Butler and Horford -- they're good but I don't see much future growth at this point

That is an interesting theory. Can the Knicks still trade them if they haven't opted in?

I'd need the Bulls' pick to consider it.

Terrible, injury prone and with a bad attitude. Some reporter did a post a few months ago saying his work ethic is down- in his prime he had a Kobe like obsession with bball, but nowadays he's a family man and has other interests.

On top of everything he's stop driving to the hoop to avoid injury but isn't actually a good shooter. AND he butted heads with Butler because they both wanted to be the man- how the hell would he get on with melo?

I hope the internal discussion was them just sat round asking themselves "what would Isaiah Thomas do?" For fun

I'd need to keep my pick and demand a first back from them. Rose is that terrible IMO. We'd be doing them a favor by taking him.

Durant probably doesn't care about future growth. It's likely that he cares most about winning a title during his physical peak, which is the next 3-4 years. I also think everybody knows where Durant stands on places before other movement happens. For example, he isn't considering Houston

My point on this deal is that there's only 2 possibilities here.

1. The Durant/Horford/Butler thing is at least 1% true, and Chicago is going to line it up on the off-chance that Durant actually considers that. In order for that to work, Chicago needs to get Rose off the books and might be willing to part with an asset or two to make it happen. For example, if Williams/Afflalo opt out, the Knicks could take Rose and Gibson and take a pick from Chicago in order to get the contracts off their hands so Chi can offer Horford and Durant money.

2. Chicago is looking to get actual value for Rose, in which case the Knicks should hang up the phone.

In related news, Phil Jackson smokes peyote and proclaims he invented a time machine. But seriously, I'm not upset that they discussed it. In the context of a salary dump where we get something in return AND are otherwise shut out of the KD sweepstakes... Then yeah, I could see us taking on that 1 year contract. There are not a lot of scenarios where he makes sense otherwise. But the Knicks brass should be discussing every option...internally.
BigDaddyG @ 6/17/2016 6:58 PM
It looks like he got stronger as the season progressed: http://espn.go.com/nba/player/splits/_/i...
But I get McDyess flashbacks thinking about this. I appreciate that the front office is thinking a litttl bit outside he box, but I think they should pass.

You know what... Rolo and Calderon for Rose works ONLY if Durant signs with us.

Melo, Durant, KP, Rose and your drunk uncle could win the east
