Knicks · Do we trade Rolo?? (page 1)

I know we've talked about this and come up with plenty of scenarios so for the right return do we trade Rolo? Is KP our center of the immediate future or does he need more time playing PF while shifting to play some center to get more acclimated to playing against bigger players and against the more true center players?? If KP is ready to play more center and we could sign another true center to play some 20 minutes or so (C.Aldrich) at the center spot for him and we could get a really nice return for Rolo which i think we can then do we trade him??

Its tough because you want to try and keep continuity and chemistry.... Melo keeps saying the Knicks have the best front court. Hard to throw that away unless you are adding a star into the mix. There are adequate replacements on the market this year. There would have to be a nice 6 hour discussion that only Phil Jackson can lead

I'm with you on the fact that trading Rolo for me and i'm pretty sure most if not all Knicks fans would be tough. He brings so much to the team and that's not only in the stats that a lot of people look at to judge a player but he's as much of a team player as you can find and a guy that doesn't play the game to put up stats which shows in his boxing out when he could easily get the rebound but boxes out so a teammate gets the rebound. He's the guy that players want to play with but if the right trade is out there that will help us get better then we have to make that trade. I think Rolo would bring back a better return then some others think and we have a lot of needs but is KP ready to play most of his minutes at center is a big question. There's some good centers out there in free agency (C.Aldrich) that could help take some center minutes so KP could still play some PF and then we could trade Rolo for guard help. Phil will have plenty of offers to sift through if he puts Rolo on the market so i guess we'll see what happens but again, trading Rolo would be tough.

Hard to find a center that sets great picks, hits free throws, shoots 50%+, plays decent defense, hits jumpers like Rolo. I say we keep him and he isn't a bad passer either. The Knicks can add a star without giving Rolo up.

Good points.

I would not trade Rolo until KP proves he is ready to be a center full time.

Pretty much sums it up. If it ain't brine don't fix it.

But I will add that Rolo was terrible in 2015. I wanted to trade him.... he started to pick it up in January. We need Rolo to bring it a full season at the level he played at that second half.

So he was terrible for Portland?? I didn't pay too much attention to what he did in Portland but thought he was fine defensively.

Two words: learning. triangle.

I would never consider trading Rolo. He does everything, delivers the best value after KP on this team. We need to find other ways to acquire players. I don't care about "star"players, one albatross contract for a declining one dimensional player is one more than we need. KP can play the 4 and he should, no need to move him over to the 5 so we can rationalize trading Rolo.

Yeah I get that. New team, new city, new roll.... he needed to get adjustEd. Let's hope that's the narrative because I will be livid if he starts off slow again

We get Mike Conley, Rolo will get lots of easy looks and look like Marc Gasol jr.

RoLo was also playing thru an injury early in the year. Once he got comfortable and more healthy he showed what he can really do. I expect a big year for RoLo.

I could see that.... I just can't see the 25 mill part

Only trade him if it means a great young piece or pieces to go along with KP. Also, KP should NEVER be turned into a full time 5. That would undo the advantage of having him.

How?

Knixkik @ 6/20/2016 8:35 AM
No way. Time to build some continuity. We have a front court to build with and i want to stick with it for awhile. Robin is a great glue guy and compliment to Melo and KP.
KingQuis @ 6/20/2016 9:49 AM
Man.... after what Cleveland showed.(being physical with G State) and after what Golden State showed (Falling apart after Bogut injury). Rolo's value is prob underappreciated around here and I think he will show even more value once we get a true point guard. Point Guard should be the main focus.... nothing else.
mreinman @ 6/20/2016 11:36 AM

brilliant idea

Take it a step further. Not having a surplus of rebounding, game savvy bigs, I would not trade Lopez at all. Why weaken one position, hoping to strengthen another position. Let's keep what we have and look to acquire assets thru scouting, drafts or free agency.

this and now isn't the time to trade him. KP isn't read to play full time center (if that is even his destined position). Rolo stays. As his contract gets older I could see him moved for assets, but now we NEED this asset on the floor.
