That hurts, we won't be able to afford him more than likely. He is going to get more than 8 million per.

deuces then... at least younger players are looking at the Knicks as a possible place to develop AND rehab their value though. I definitely would love to keep Williams but oh well

Phil has made so known that he is looking for vet help, 4 yrs or more in the nba or college..
Afflalo is in for a (JR LIKE) rude awakening, if he thinks he's getting more than 8 mill, he's absolutely kidding himself..poor decision

Maybe AA is willing to take a little less/yr if he can get a longer contract on a better team.
Williams definitely enhanced his market value...not so with AA.

I think the longer contract is the goal....The total dollar amount instead of the dollars per year. These guys want security and I don't blame them. Especially in todays market where everybody has cap space.
The MLE is 4 years 34 mm so if we want Williams back that's probably the figure. I'm not sure how this is good for the Knicks. Basically we're getting the same player for double the cash
Williams was a pleasant surprise. Hope we can keep him. He really gave the second unit some punch this season. Would hate to lose that.

Its not. Nobody said this is good for the Knicks. Even AA opting out hurts some... could have def moved him for something in the draft

He hurts because its another season and where you primarily have to revamp half the roster for the 3rd straight off season. Another season trying to build chemistry, a new coach, and a some what new system..
Just another excuse for a poor season.

Not really, that's just your poor outlook getting in the way of things.
The Knicks are rebuilding. That means couple of new players every year until they are a playoff team and then a contender. Get used to it and enjoy the process.

the last time I heard someone it's not about the playoffs it's about the process, they got fired a week later.
martin you know darn well flipping your roster every season is a recipe for disaster. You need to cut it.....out

I like him but to me, he's not mandatory to bring back. Why not look for cheaper alternatives? He may not be cheaper but I like Solomon Hill A LOT. In fact, I want this guy as my starting 2G for next year. Hill can also grab additional mins. from the vacated D-Will at backup 3. I think he's a better buy for mid-level money over D-Will (hopefully we could get him for even less that that considering he's not as established yet. Maybe, maybe not -- here's a good article about Hill, why he almost certainly won't return to the Pacers and how one GM speculates he will get a contract in the $7-9mm/year range: https://8points9seconds.com/2016/06/17/s...). Better overall player with more versatility imo.. This is my #1 guy in FA. First guy I'd contact and get the ball rolling with...Then there's the 6'10" Justin Harper who may not have D-Will's athleticism but he's a dynamite shooter, can play a little in the post and he plays smart. Then there's long athletic shot-blockers we could add that serve a better purpose than D-Will like Khem Birch (does he have an opt out to the NBA as part of his new Greek contract? Can't find an info. but hopefully he does) or Octavius Ellis. Or another spot open for a wing like Thanasis Antetokounmpo, Terrico White or Jabari Brown. I don't care that no one is talking about these guys -- they're all good players that fit better than D-Will and the price is right. Let's be honest here -- again, I like Derrick's positives but the reality is his game is scoring with a ton of bone-headed, sloppy play and little defense. I think we could have the scoring dept. covered for next year with a mix of cheaper/better alternatives. Same goes for AA..
Good riddance and by-by...
Now we have 30 mils for max FA... or 2 very good role players.
im surprised any of you care
trade Robin Lopez and stretch/buyout or trade Calderon, release Langston Galloway at his qualifing offer, bring back Thanasis if we do get a leader and defender for Thanasis to learn from
and let the Durant/Lebron and friends begin, along with a MAX TIER PLAYER NEXT YEAR

lol.
u know its going to happen and some "paper" will make a topic out of it, hey we can dream can we?

Why is this so hard to understand (?)
Williams is an important piece of what the Knicks are building --
especially if they are still a Triangle team.
You don't just go out and get a Triangle replacement like
ordering from a menu.
I'd say he's a high priority to keep.
I can't believe anyone else will pay him more than what he
is worth to the Knicks.
So pay it . . . and then turn to fixing the guards.

Id like to keep Williams, our rotation up front is very solid with him involved. I wonder with a longer deal if he will stay motivated to get better

Excellent point . . . that I minimized in my post.
