Knicks · Who is Justin Holiday? (page 1)

Cartman718 @ 6/22/2016 5:17 PM
The only player on the Knicks right now with an NBA championship.
Not that he had a lot to do with it. He went undrafted, is 6'6" played for huskies and was great at defense in college. In the NBA, he went to D-League, Summer League, Philly, GSW, Hawks, Bulls, and in the experience that he gained, he's upped his shooting percentage to 41%. he's supposedly kept an even keel temperament through what i read on twitter, is very god fearing and all 3 of his siblings play basketball
jrue for pelicans and a brother and sister that play ball in college.

Sounds like a bit of pedigree to me, similar to Grant. Except he's taller, can actually play SG, and he could be on the verge of something bigger with the amount of patience he has shown.

On March 11, 2016, he made his first start for the Bulls (sixth of career) with Derrick Rose out injured. In 38 minutes of action, he recorded a then season-high 14 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals and 2 blocks in a 118–96 loss to the Miami Heat.

In the Bulls' season finale on April 13, Holiday scored a career-high 29 points in a 115–105 win over the Philadelphia 76ers. Even against scrubs, would you ever expect Grant to score 30 points?

Grant was not the answer at PG, no one feared his shot. And he was always torn btwn passing and shooting.
Calderon cant stop anyone, every PG in the league LIT HIM UP
the only reason calderon was well received is because he replaced felton, who was also lit up by every pg in the league
WaltLongmire @ 6/22/2016 5:25 PM

1 year left on a contract worth about $1M.

I think he was just a throw in to match salaries, though.

Cartman718 @ 6/22/2016 5:28 PM
so is he really the replacement for Wroten? Does he drive to the hoop as much?
Finestrg @ 6/22/2016 5:36 PM
You know what, I initially sold him short in my first reaction to the trade but he's not bad. 6'6", athletic and he can shoot the ball. Some prior success in the NBA for a couple of team, albeit limited. Not a frontline player by any means--he's a role player, even going back to college at Washington. Good quick hands on defense and he's got some hops.. Had a real good year in the DL back in 2012/13: 17.3 ppg, 41.2% from 3, 2.4 steals per game, 1.2 blocks (over 1 in both defensive categories really pops out at you).. Added a decent cheap player at a position of need. We still need way more at the 2, backup 3, etc. but could he help us? I think so. Let's see if he sticks. We were under the cap when we made this deal--I don't think we had to take him back in this trade. Who knows, maybe Phil really likes him.

Jalen just said he is a really good player. He put up numbers in a couple of games when he got minutes. He also can shoot the 3 and put up really good numbers when he was in the d league a couple of years ago.

He's a sleeper for us. Right now he's the only shooting guard we have on the roster. I cab see him playing a rule for us

Holiday was pretty good when he was on Golden State's bench. He's not going to be a starter any time soon but by all accounts, he worked his butt off in practice at GS and was a solid teammate. He played a Barbosa-like role for GS for most of a year. He's a solid bench player and fine inexpensive pick up for the Knicks, IMO.

Nice. They also are bringing in the center from the Warriors championship team that got high marks for character and work ethic.

A little Holiday Love 😁

callmened @ 6/22/2016 10:56 PM
i liked him a few yrs ago. he filled in for GSW a couple yrs ago and looked good

- ideally hes a 3&D wing who is best used as a role player
- realistically he cant his his 3s consistently, cant dribble and inconsistent with his defense

overall: a step up from cleanthony early (im not expecting much from him)

NumberTwoPencil @ 6/22/2016 11:05 PM
" . . . bringing in the center from the Warriors championship team . . . "

?

Did I miss something?

Oh, I see. Ognjen Kuzmin is heading to Knicks summer league. I didn't see him play enough to have an opinion. Seems unlikely that he's got significant game but playing summer league can't hurt.

The warriors wanted to bring him back initially.
NumberTwoPencil @ 6/22/2016 11:44 PM
Cool. We can use . . . well, more or less anyone who can play. Kuzmin fever!

Sounds like grant wroten and holiday are similar bench players. Grant wasn't the answer at PG.....or maybe not JH type of PG. Wtoten isn't healthy enough to be in the NBA right now. Holiday sounds like s keeper for now.....or a decent trading chip for a late 1st or 2nd round pick. Either way, he replaces grant as a bench player with potential.

He's the only SG in the trade. So he will get PT since we are then at that position. Basically in 1 trade we filled our starting PG and backup SG. Two positions of weakness.....at the same time unloaded contracts to free up CSP space.....I'm not mad at this trade.

Hornacek might think Clearanthony might be ready for a turn in the rotation. With Galloway, Holiday and Early, these might be OK for now.
Lot of roster changes will still happen.

Love my Rookies and root hard for them and of course Grant was one of them. Holiday might take the sting out of losing him.
