Classic cap clearing move similar to Donnie's move to get rid of all long term contracts. Only difference is we own our 1st round pick and won't end up with Andy and Landry. Another difference is instead of a Rooster that no one wants to play with, we have a "Unicorn" that KD himself coined. Everyone wants to play with a unicorn. And if players want to "buddy ball" with Melo they can do that. We won't strike out this time, the free agent pool is to rich and deep, and we'll have the most shekels to hand out...

This move really is all about the 2017 free agency and stacked draft class from Kentucky, Kansas, and Duke.

I don't know if you're saying that you think Phil did this trade only for the cap space in 2017 but if so then i think you could be wrong. I can see Phil going for it with this trade and adding the other pieces needed to make a run in this free agency if he can get one of these legit big men that are sitting out there. If it's D.Howard that he has his eyes on then i'm gonna be a very nervous Knicks fan cause while he's still a beast on the court what he brings with his immaturity off the court scares the hell out of me and would much rather have one of A.Horford, J.Noah or P.Gasol before i'd want Howard.
It really is a good trade though even though i'll miss the hell out of Rolo and still think there's a chance that Grant grows into a good player but if Rose doesn't show well next year and give us what he gave last year (66 games) or more then we can re-sign him which would be scary but could be a great addition as well and if he doesn't work out we add another $20+ million to next years off season which is strong with big names. I think Rose will have a good year for us and one of the most important things this off season now is to get a legit backup point guard for when Rose needs rest and if he gets injured.
