We just traded for Rose before the draft... safe to say things are escalating rather quickly
seems like someone is offering free money and we're wondering if it's worth it. What am I missing? Lamb or Hawes are decent enough and #22 will get a contributor
This is just a rumor with no word from anyone actually in the Charlotte front office to actually back that rumor up.
Isn't Wojo the rumor-god?If he is reporting it, you figure it has some legs.
most definitely - or anything that comes his Vertical on yahoo, they send out some rumors too.
crush was saying that yahoo is airing their own draft special tonight and will have the rumors before NBA has them. should be interesting.
Yeah, I think this has legs going on who's reporting it although part of me does think it sounds too good to be true a little.
Don't normally watch the draft on yahoo but I think I will tonight. Very excited!

Hoopshype's twitter feed had a reporter tweet that the Hornets are struggling to find a taker for that deal and the expectation is that Charlotte makes the pick. I think it would be a great deal for the knicks. Once at 22 they could look at trying to move up a few spots and possibly get Valentine.
Bottom line - it's a pretty weak draft, so first round picks will be available.
Charlotte is trying to clear room to re-sign Batum, Marvin Williams, Courtney Lee, Jeremy Lin - the actual rotation guys from their playoffs team.
I'd rather try to poach Courtney Lee from them for $10M than pay Jeremy Lamb $7M or Spencer Hawes $6M and then pay a weak first rounder $2M or whatever it is.

and maybe Jefferson too, no?

Yeah man, that's definitely a possibility I wasn't even thinking -- use 22, next year's 2nd rounders (we have two now, right?), cash, maybe a resigned Galloway in a S&T, etc., to move up even further.
Let me ask you Crush -- what are your thoughts on this proposed trade rumor? Would you do Lamb + pick 22 for basically nothing? Sounds like Charlotte's not even looking for much in return, if anything. What's the issue giving everyone pause -- the extension Lamb signed, Lamb as a player, what?

You really think this draft is that weak? You don't think a viable rotation player will potentially be there at 22? Man, I do..

The only thing I can think of is that the Knicks think they have a good opportunity to sign a star (KD, Derozan) and need all of their cap space or that they want every cent next year. I think they should do it. I can't decide between Hawes or Lamb. I think Hawes fits what Hornacek might want in a big man but I thought Lamb was going to be a really good nba player. He is only 23 or 24 I think. I think they should do it.

I don't see them re-signing Jefferson. He wasn't really in their rotation. They need a more mobile big man.

That's a good point about having the most cap room available now--for a guy like KD I guess + maybe another halfway decent player that's on their radar. I guess that's why they jettisoned Tony Wroten so quickly.

Potentially. But you're investing an additional $6-7M for multiple years to take that risk. I think you can sign a viable rotation player for $8-9M instead that fits in more with this timeline.
The notion that Phil is going for a full rebuild has to go out the window now. When I criticized Phil previously people hit me over the head with Grant and Rolo as proof this was a slow rebuild. That's out the window now.
I'm interested in getting a pick... but not sure about taking on Hawes or Lamb. I'd rather sign Courtney Lee on a $9M 1 and 1 deal.
If CHA will do the same trade with Hawes, I would rather try to sign Hawes to a one year deal and trade for him. Between Hawes, the Spanish kid, and O'Quinn, we should be good at center and can still preserve max cap room for next summer. As far as Lamb, he is a decent young player, but given that he is sign for two more years, I would pass.

I think someone posted that Hawes has 2 years left on his deal and Lamb has 3 years.

Yup...Hawes has two more years, with a player option the second year, and Lamb's is 3 years, no options.
You know I read the tweet and overlooked that it said Lamb or Hawes, I thought it was take on both for the 22 pick. I'd still did it if it meant both because a team needs depth but I would move on Lamb as a back up guard and then pick the best available at 22 even if it's Denzel Valentine.
Dude Charlotte just traded the pick to the kings for fucking Bellinelli.....
This draft must be terrible based on some of the trades that have been made...

They just gave the pick away
Boston has picks and seems desperate, as does Charlotte - why aren't we in the mix to get these? We ave money, we can offer them Dolan, Mills, H20 and the ghost of Isiah.

The trade can't be finalized til July 1 because of the cap... so trade may not be quite final.
Though I wonder if that means the Hornets are worried they'll lose Courtney Lee or Nic Batum?
I'd happily take Courtney Lee. Still don't know if I think Batum is realistic.
