Here's a question: Can MSG offer Durant a separate contract as, say, a public relations guy that would pay him more than just what the Knicks can offer on a max contract?
I think we should go all in on Durant, and if we don't get him, we should turn around and trade Melo for parts that will go around KP.
Just saw that Alan Hahn said K.Durant is meeting with the Knicks on July 1st and that he heard a guy with other trophies is also interested which someone said could be J.Crawford with the 6th man trophies. He said Durant is intrigued with the Knicks and other free agents are intrigued as well.
Things are changing for the better boyz!!!!!!
Berman is citing a '
source' but has some interesting tid bits here.
While Knicks president Phil Jackson plans to do his due diligence on Kevin Durant and hopes to get a meeting, he considers it a “pipe dream” and has prioritized splitting his $30 million-plus in cap space on Bulls free-agent center Joakim Noah and a starting shooting guard, according to an NBA source.Jackson has had a conversation with new point guard Derrick Rose about a handful of top free agents he will pursue, including Durant, an NBA source confirmed. Jackson likes Noah, a product of New York City, for the triangle-like offense Jeff Hornacek plans to run because he’s a very good passer, can score a little in the low post and is an active rebounder. The source said the Knicks have little interest in free-agent center Dwight Howard because he is not a fit in a system offense.
The source said Jackson also wants to re-sign Derrick Williams and backup center Kevin Seraphin.

Surprised to hear about Seraphin. Not surprised to hear about Noah and DWill. Those both make sense.
Big question is just who the SG is - I like the idea of Jamal Crawford, but he's 36... not exactly the age you want your starting SG to be... we also need a backup PG in the worst way.
I'd try to sign Jerryd Bayless - he can play the point or alongside Rose.
Would love to sign Courtney Lee, Jerryd Bayless and Joakim Noah... if that's possible...

Seems like Berman is getting watered down misinformation at this point. Serves him right. Maybe Marbury is giving him stories still. Wo bu jer dao.

i will temper my expectations. The odds of us signing KD are about as good as raising the Titanic. Hey it would be tremendous but probably not realistic

Hahn said in his article "maybe trading for Rose means you get to meet Durant on July 1, but he's not going to sign with you."
It was complete speculation, and even in his speculation he admitted Durant wouldn't sign here. ]

And here's where the deal really shows it's potential. Rose's presence is an attention-grabber for free agents this summer. So perhaps it gets you a dinner with Kevin Durant in Los Angeles on July 1, but it likely isn't enough to get him to sign on the dotted line.

you are absolutely right. I was responding to the poster who made it seem it was possible to get him
Not sure why there would be fit issues. KD fits in with any team, especially this Knicks team
Melo will be better at the 4 & Porzingis will be better at the 5, especially in our offense.
PG: Rose
SG: Holliday
SF: Durant
PF: Anthony
C: Porzingis
Even with Holliday starting will put that starting 5 up against anyone.
Rose will have an open lane all day.

The fit issue is that he'll be on the Thunder so he couldn't be in our starting lineup. He's not coming here.

pretty much. Knicks need to prove they can win for a change and then maybe we can attract bigger names

Talent, knockdown shooting, ability to play point or alongside Rose off the ball like you said and fairly low projected cost = yes to Jerryd Bayless. I'm with you on him. Gimmie Bayless + a late draft pickup (Cat Barber, Demetrius Jackson, Gary Payton II, Kay Felder, Marcus Paige) and I feel real good about our PG spot all of a sudden. I think we definitely need some more depth behind Rose. It's imperative.

I am pro Bayless as well. His 3 is pretty good. Shouldn't be too pricey.
Durant is the primary target.
However after that I think we should take a look at Dwight Howard, depending on his contract demands. If Dwight is willing to come play with Melo, Rose, KP and take a 90$million/4 year deal, that allows the Knicks to get someone like Allen Crabbe with the remaining cap space.
Howard
Porzingis
Anthony
Crabbe
Rose
Many will hate on this team, but other than Cleveland and some Western conference contenders, I think this team can realistically beat any other team in the playoffs. Howard is still good for 14/10, KP is on his way up and should give them about 17 ppg next year, Melo sticks with a solid 22/7/3 year, Crabbe 2-3 three pointers a game, and Rose is the real wild card but he should give them no less than 15 and 6.
