Knicks · Crabbe is almost certain to get a max offer from Nets, Sixers, or Kings (page 1)

crzymdups @ 6/29/2016 12:59 AM

These teams have huge cap room and will probably get shut out of some of the other big free agents.

Crabbe is gonna get a max offer. Which is insane.

One low key great thing about the Rose trade - it allows to somewhat sit out really overpaying to make our big move. Rose is the big move. A lot of other teams are going to severely overpay this summer to make a splash. Knicks have made their splash and can focus on filling in the roster holes wisely. I tend to think that's what they'll do, rather than grossly overpay a hot free agent.

nyknickzingis @ 6/29/2016 1:10 AM
If it is true they can keep some of their own free agents using early bird rights or cap holds.

Starting C/Seraphin/O'Quinn
Porzingis/Williams
Melo/Thomas
Starting 2G/Holiday
Rose/Galloway

The starting C and 2G need to fall winthin 29$M. This assumes Thomas, Williams, Galloway, Seraphin all agree to deals within 1.5 times their last season salary (Williams, Seraphin) or we use early bird rights to keep them at market value (Thomas, Galloway).

If Noah costs the Knicks what I think he will - 18$M, that leaves about 11$M for a shooting guard.

I think that's on the right track. Maybe $11M for Courtney Lee?

nyknickzingis @ 6/29/2016 2:30 AM
How does Lee get out in transition? Can he fill the wing or corner 3 spot quick? That is probably the number one thing Hornachek looks for in a starting 2 guard.

Outside the box thinking and may be cheaper. Troy Daniels, only 24. Austin Rivers, only a few tears into the league. Both players I think will get half of what the Brazemore types will get, but could fill in what Hornachek wants from a 2 guard quite decently.

Courtney Lee is a top of the key three pt shooter, which is great for getting back on D. It leaves us with no real corner three guys. If you were running a mega death lineup amd had another corner wing, Lee makes a great addition.

Batum, for example, would be PERFECT to balance the floor.
http://vorped.com/1-nba/2015-2016/player...

This lineup has great floor balance and spacing. And well positioned transition defenders.
Rose
Lee
Batum
Anthony
KP6

The issue is that KP is not strong enough to man that C spot all year. And all your money is gone. It lacks a dominant rebounder.

If you can choose between Batum and Lee, even at the price, you take Batum for spacing and passing. A Batum + Mozgov or Noah (not moneterily realistic?) offseason is pretty Successful, IMO. But, this is my pre- coffee lineup.

I think the number of french players on the SL squad is as much about gathering info on Batum and maybe a french running mate for Batum as it is testing their talent... should we look for Labeyrie and Batum to be roomies with the Knicks this season, no?

I thought Batum was either signing with Charlotte or a contender...?

Would love him but think well probably end up with a Lee/Fournier level dude and y'know what?

Rose + Lee is closer to what a starting NBA backcourt should look like vs. the Calderon + Afflalo combo...

Lee just doesnt spread the floor tha same way. Afflalo back would be better. Benching Afflalo was bad coaching and a poor understanding of advanced stats. That should be why Rambis is gone.

http://vorped.com/1-nba/2015-2016/player...

Compare Afflalo's shot chart to Lee's. Assume in the side triangle, Rose is coming up the right side of the court. If you try and kick to the corner, who will shoot from there? Unless you want KP in the right corner and Melo in the left.

1. did not know Afflalo was that good from the corners

2. The Afflalo ship has sailed. Maybe just maybe if Rambis wasn't on the staff he would come back but dude was salty last season.

3. Is it weird that Afflalo shot just as many shots where he was pretty terrible as he did where he shot most efficiently?

Its not weird. It is bad coaching. Horny understands shooting efficiency. Not sure Rambis is really on the staff.

What's crazier though?

a) Offering a young dude like Crabbe/Fournier who haven't done much other than show flashes big $ and hoping they get better

b) Offering declining guys like Noah/Howard with tons of miles and previous injuries big $ and hoping they stay healthy and not drop off a cliff like Tyson Chandler

It's a gamble either way I guess. I'd rather gamble on YOOTS

A player also has to understand and play to his strengths...We weren't really running set plays for AA ALL the time, were we, and from what I know, the Triangle gives players a great deal of freedom.

Afflalo seems to have a somewhat elevated opinion of his ability, perhaps he never thought about taking shots that were high % shots for him.

I like Crabbe- plays some D, can shoot, is a legit 6'6"+, and he is only 24, but only two years ago he averaged 3.3 PPG, and he's never been a starter or played starter minutes.

Is he more than one of those D and 3 type players?

Just can't see giving him a max contract without even a year of starting under his belt.

Maybe he turns into a Demarre Carroll type player, who knows.

I think crz really wants Courtney Lee. It reads that Courtney Lee is asking for 14mm per season

"Courtney Lee is looking for $14 million per season on his next contract, according to KSTP's Darren Wolfson.
Mon, Jun 27 R"

Hes a very decent NBA player but if I could have Crabbe for close to the same--1 is going to be 31 in a few months the other is 24. If we fail--I still would have Crabbe at 24 and KP at 20 as a foundation. I really believe we need young legs with Carmelo and Rose. Im not opposed to Lee on a 1 year contract in certain circumstance--I think with Rose he fits better than before but I dont want to pay 31 year old guards 4 years 56mm.

The huge difference in Lee and Afflalo is that Lee actually plays defense and whoever is our starting SG next season absolutely needs to be able to play defense playing next to D.Rose.

Id give Crabbe as much as 66mm$# 4 years 16.5mm per. If its not enough then I start going down the list looking for players who will take ONE year contracts. Gerald Hendersen Courtney Lee etc... Im not on the Noah bandwagon---I think if we are going for a player for 1-2 years Pau Gasol has been much more durable and he is still playing at a high level--Im scared at how Noah dropped off the table. So I am more of a Gasol Crabbe guy and I hope the poster was right about Demetrius Jackson but Im not going to hold my breath. Also Denver has too many guards. Id like to see what they want for Barton or Harris. Barton could become our 6th man for a couple of years. He makes only 3mm--we could trade KOQ for him if we get a big. They could use the big same salary
