Bye bye Gallo. He was a good Knick, but he didn't separate himself from the competition.
But he was high character guy and from that aspect he will be missed. But we already have Justin Holliday so this was bound to happen.

And waaayyyyy over rated
I agree. Galloway would have been tradeable at $5-$6 mil. We should have signed and trusted that we could move him later if needed.

Is there a decision Phil made that you didn't gripe about? And next season if we couldn't sign a player we needed because of cap room you'll be the first to complain about why Phil didn't create enough flexibility to sign players down the line. You probably thought the world was coming to an end when we let Chris Copeland walk, didn't you?
Yes, I loved both the Lopez and O'Quinn moves. I liked Jennings as a back up player at $5m. I do not really like Jennings as a player but he can be a useful passer. It's still just a one year deal so the knicks will need to look for a back up pg next year. I give Phil credit when he deserves it but for the most part he has been undeserving.
Maintaining cap flexibility while still putting a good roster together is not easy. If you don't agree that's fine but Phil has taken a calculated risk for this season but with some outs so that he's not trapped going forward. That's not a bad deal at all. BJ's deal doesn't stop the team from doing what they have to do next summer, meanwhile he gives the roster needed ability off the bench.
What is his new contract? This is disappointing loss for us. If we wanted to preserve cap space, this seems like one of the silliest ways to do it.
WaltLongmire wrote:yellowboy90 wrote:WaltLongmire wrote:We (including myself) are all overlooking Holiday, by the way. Good size...good defender...decent shooter.
He might be a sleeper for us this season.
How can you tell any of this when he hasn't played that much? His entire career is a little over the minutes Gallo played in as a rookie. Keep in mind Gallo was in the DL to start the year. Also, his good 33pt shooting everyone points to was 60 shots for the bulls. For his entire career he has shot the ball under 33% from three. He doesn't rebound, pass, stl, or blk shots either. The only thing he has shown is that he has good size and athleticism. J.P. Tokoto has the same qualities and he looks horrible on the SL squad.
Going by some things I heard on the radio from Chicago reporters. As the person pointed out about last season, he was doing his stuff at the end of the year, but it was not garbage time for a team with no chance to make the playoffs. He had some good minutes and did some good things playing for a team that was fighting for a spot in the playoffs. It wasn't a Mardy Collins end of the year on a bad team showing.
I've seen clips and heard things, and figure he should be in the conversation.
There is no other choice now for him to be in the conversation. I just have a hard time getting excited over a guy who only made over three 3Ps twice. He's last two games are what put his shooting over the top and that was when the Bulls were out of it. He is on a vet min deal so there is zero risk financially but to depend on him as a back up is a huge risk given his entire history.

Exactly, the only out for Phil is if Gallo didn't want a long term deal at $6m but instead wanted to bet on himself. You don't just give up useful players for nothing when they can be had on reasonable deals. Gallo is a useful rotation player without being able to shoot. How useful would he be if he actually improves like other young players.

Was he looking for 6m total or per year? Per year - that's a little more questionable but I still think worthwhile.

I had only disliked the Melo contact before this off season. Now I am going to add trading Rolo and Noah's contract to that. Lee and Jennings are both good value for what we paid for them.Selecting.KP also stands out. I am not sure what direction we are going now, reading between the lines neither does he. It's a hedge, he both sacrificed salary cap (Noah) and maintained flexibility (Rose). If the team reaches the ECF do we keep it intact? Huge question marks remain about health. If the team ends up winning 37 games did we accomplish anything? The maneuvering he did this year was very tricky and he pulled off a lot. But it looks like we are entering a period of frequent overhauls and no continuity. Very short term thinking in my opinion, and probably not conducive to KP's growth.
The more I think about it the more I'm okay with it. I think Galloway was a great find. It will really be hard to find another player as good as he was off the scrap heap. But do we really want to allocate $6 mil (or whatever) to him? I think thats fair but he's not really valuable anymore at that price.

I'll sign up for that dilemma.

Nope.

So brining back last year's team was your preference?
I have already started my precedence. Hasn't changed from two days ago.
meloshouldgo wrote:I have already started my precedence. Hasn't changed from two days ago.
That's fair enough.
I have no idea what you stated, of course, but I believe you probably did.
That breaks my heart, you don't read every word I type?

I guess I will just have to live with the disappointment.

I have no idea how you feel about it, just that you assumed I had.

Well, we don't really have anyone other than KP who is valuable at their salary.

KOQ @ 4M
Jennings @ 5M
Lance @ 6M
Melo is making the same as Bradley Beal in the new landscape.
Some definite unknowns in Holiday, Minda, and even Noah until his health is made known; but overall I think our cap management is looking pretty f*cking good. Unless we're going the social justice route and talking about how athletes shouldn't be making more than doctors or teachers and all that.

KOQ and Jennings are probably paid what they're worth. They're not good deals but they're not bad deals. Statistically, Lance isn't really at the level of an adequate NBA player, and I don't think Melo warrants 1/4 of the total cap space regardless of what another person is paid.

you just come up for air? Maybe you have not been watching what has happened in FA.

We'll see. In the past you've always thought our teams would be a lot better than they were. What matters is whether Phil's spending buys a good team, not whether his spending is on par with other teams that have made mistakes this offseason. I'll wait til the actual models come out but this looks like a .470 team to me.

Reportedly getting a deal between 5 and 6M per year with a player out after year 1. That's probably too much for a 5th guard...and a slot the Knicks could likely fill with a vet min after the dust settles. Maybe if the contract had a team out after 1 the knicks would spend that $.
How else would the Knicks preserve cap space right now other than to not sign someone?
Jose reportedly traded to LA...last year on his contract (7.7M) and the bulls had to send 2 second round picks with him....while receiving basically nothing in return. Not the road the Knicks would want to face next year to get rid of Galloway if they needed to sign a FA.

are you a robot incapable of just using your eyes and making a judgment? Thanks for bringing your thoughts to the table. Let us know what the models tell you and enough data to actually say something.
As for me thinking the Knicks would be a lot better than they were that is not really true. I did think they would win 45 last season. They were what? 22-22 and trending upward. Melo got hurt and they tailspinned. Lance went out shortly after and that sir was the season. I suppose your models predicted that? Cmon man.
