Knicks · Rumor - Phil hoping to land Westbrook in '17. (page 1)

According to this article, Westbrook admires KP's game and Phil is hoping that this will help him to recruit the star pg next summer to replace Rose. With Durant gone, it's going to be hard for OKOC to keep Westbrook.

As mentioned in other threads, I wonder about Westbrook as your PG. He is definitely a superstar, as strong as they can be and definitely unstoppable one-on-one.

***BUT***

Is he a team player? Is he a playmaker in the sense that you need at PG? Is the plan to play him like an SG? Or maybe to have the hybrid guard attack with a re-signed Jennings?

In general, I'd LOVE to get Westbrook in free agency next offseason, but one has to wonder:

1. Where will he be traded during the season? OKC seems poised to do that. If so, will he re-up there?

2. If available in free agency, can Westbrook be the team player superstar you need him to be in NY? We would still have Melo, KP, Lee and Noah at minimum so its not his one-man show. His supposed struggles with Durant make it be doubtful.

you could post the same thing about every other front office with maybe some small exceptions (GS, Cavs)

He's not coming here for sure...

Phil hoping to land Aldridge. That's okay because Durant is a FA next year. Every summer NY hopes to land their Moby.

Westbrook is 2011 Rose on steroids. He avg two more shots than Rose in posting a line of 24p/10a/8r/2st. If you accept Rose as ur pg then you gotta luv Westbrook who is a far superior player on both ends

As I've been saying since Phil got here - I think Westbrook is the one that might happen. He's the one mega-signing ever that I thought might happen. Like Joakim Noah, another odd duck who might connect with Phil on a level deeper than just pure basketball. And a guy who wants to be a fashion icon. Sorry LA, New York is still the fashion capital of the world. Particularly for hoops. Witness Walt Clyde.

I think there's a shot. It might not be better than 50/50. But I think it's the best shot we will have at a superstar. I say go for it.

Part of me thinks that Westbrook lands in LA for the Clippers but I think Doc may have messed that up by giving Crawford and his son big contracts. They can still probably move some pieces if necessary though.

I agree with you both . Think Westie is up to the challenge of NY or LA but starting to wonder if Miami will become a factor. Looks like they will have enuf cap in 17 if Bosh retires to get two maybe three top flight players. Rley luvs his stars. Could see him going hard after Westbrook and Griffin in 17

Westbrook seems like a real possibility. Personally, I would prefer him as a sg. Pg ther always seems something a little off in the big games

I agree w earlier post that I'm sort of pulling for Rose

EnySpree @ 7/9/2016 3:31 AM
You know I bet you can make this rumor for all 29 other teams

I agree I never wanted ALdridge, never thought we had any chance at Durant but Westbrook seems like a guy with the personality to sign here. Of course I could also see him going to the Clippers, Lakers, or Heat as well. I think there are 5 teams with a legit shot, those 3 the Knicks and OKC.

Yeah - I wouldn't put it past Boston to make a trade for him either. They have the pieces. Westbrook and Horford in the East would be pretty good. Hopefully Westbrook puts the word out that he won't sign an extension with anyone and plans to test FA no matter what.

I could easily see Boston making a trade for him without a gaurantee that he re-signs. They are so awashed in assets that they can take the hit and still be competitive. I'm not sure what the trade would look like but could easily see Marcus Smart, Jaylen Brown and that Nets' pick in 2017 being included, which would leave their starting lineup virtually unscathed. Crazy.

I think people are getting too caught up in 1's and 2's. Westbrook would be the lead guard, which Rose will be and Bryant and Jordan were.

I agree except I think Boston would try to keep the 2017 pick and give up the last Brooklyn pick because next year's draft is supposedly loaded with talent. But yeah, could absolutely see Boston taking a chance on being able to re-sign Westbrook.
