To cite flaws and demand improvements of any system is a basic right but to deny that progress has been made on many fronts is shallow . To deny the issue has other components is not having a full discussion. The last thing poor urban communities need is depolicing but that is likely what will come out of all these tragedies.
Ideally a balance can be achieved where broken window policing is lessened while safety of neighborhoods can be maintained. Unfortunately , I have my doubts
Violence is not the answer...The recent killings of the police officers in Dallas and Baton Rogue is terrible and a very unfortunate and sad situation. With that said, the hostility towards the police has been bubbling for decades, hell centuries. Alton and Philando are the known deaths at the hands of police because of video, but those who have lived in the inner cities such as myself know that this has been going on for decades. To exacerbate the problem, the police officers who are killing unarmed black people are not being properly prosecuted and convicted. Thus the birth of Blacklivesmatter...and the retaliations that we are seeing now.
Key Findings:
Police killed at least 102 unarmed black people in 2015, nearly twice each week. (See which police departments were responsible for these deaths)
Nearly 1 in 3 black people killed by police in 2015 were identified as unarmed, though the actual number is likely higher due to underreporting
37% of unarmed people killed by police were black in 2015 despite black people being only 13% of the U.S. population
Unarmed black people were killed at 5x the rate of unarmed whites in 2015
Only 10 of the 102 cases in 2015 where an unarmed black person was killed by police resulted in officer(s) being charged with a crime, and only 2 of these deaths (Matthew Ajibade and Eric Harris) resulted in convictions of officers involved. Only 1 of 2 officers convicted for their involvement in Matthew Ajibade's death received jail time. He was sentenced to 1 year in jail and allowed to serve this time exclusively on weekends. Deputy Bates, who killed Eric Harris, will be sentenced May 31.
Of the 102 cases on the website there are plenty that are due to traffic accidents as well as people who died after officers utilized chemical agents. There are a few that are questionable at best but a majority look like clean uses of force.

37. Darrius Stewart, 7/17/15
Memphis, TN: Stewart was stopped by police for a broken headlight. Authorities said he was placed in the back of a patrol car, unhandcuffed, while officers ran his name. When the officers returned to handcuff Stewart and take him into custody for outstanding warrants, police said he became "combative" and struck an officer with the handcuffs. The officer then drew his gun and fired. Stewart's mother told local news that her son had never been arrested and that the warrants were for someone else with the same name.41. George Mann, 7/11/15
Stonewall, GA: Police were called to a Stone Mountain home after a caller said Mann was irate and locked in a garage. Officers claim they attempted to negotiate with Mann before tasing him. The 35-year-old became unresponsive and pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.51. Ross Anthony, 6/9/15
Dallas, TX: Police claim Ross Anthony was banging his fists on the hood of an ambulance and got into another person’s vehicle when they arrived. Officers claim they attempted to talk Anthony out of the car, choosing to reach in and grab him when he opened the door. When he allegedly resisted, the officer tased Anthony, which ended up killing him.
This has more to do with suspects not complying with officers than it does the color of their skin. A majority of the deaths posted on the website would not have happened had the suspects complied with the officers.
Clean uses of force? Tell that to the victims sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, etc. None of the victims had guns, yet all of them are dead! You dont have a problem with that at all!
But several things stand out to me....1. The running theme is officers claim....Who knows if this is the actual truth of events. 2. There were multiple cops/police on the scene vs one victim. Compliant or not, these victims were unarmed and all of them should not be dead. 3. No officers have been charged with a crime for killing of (insert name). That is a problem.

When Vanderbilt University football player Cory Batey and three of his buddies raped a 21-year-old white woman on June 23, 2013, he said this to her: “That’s for 400 years of slavery, you bitch!”
Speaking at Batey’s sentencing hearing this Friday, the unnamed victim described how even after the sexual assault, the football player continued to abuse her by degrading her with more hateful speech and urinating on her face, according to The Tennessean.
I guess its black privilege to hold people responsible for events that happened decades and centuries before they were born.

Nice example briggs. Lets play the rape card. because the threat to white women is what drives heinous events like the murder of Emmett Till.
Just for the record, slavery was followed by nearly 90 years of criminalization via "black codes" that denied the rights to testify against whites, to serve on juries or in state militias, vote, or start a job without the approval of the previous employer.
Southern states again enacted a series of laws intended to circumscribe the lives of African Americans. Harsh contract laws penalized anyone attempting to leave a job before an advance had been worked off. “Pig Laws” unfairly penalized poor African Americans for crimes such as stealing a farm animal. And vagrancy statutes made it a crime to be unemployed. Many misdemeanors or trivial offenses were treated as felonies, with harsh sentences, imprisonment and fines.
The Pig Laws were expanded with even more discriminatory laws once the Jim Crow era began. Voting was a crime punishable by death. Lynching was a spectator sport. Think about that.
The law to end segregation was not until 1963.

Its roughly 3.7 times more likely that an African American will commit rape than a white American. Like I said--you can look to the facts of crime in the US to get an understanding on why police might be more jumpy with AA(although this is not a proven fact) It seems like rape is a black privilege

Whites and hispanics can also cite a wide list of police travesties against them lest you forget the raw totals of police shootings of whites are twice that of blacks before adjusting for population. Fact is that there arr more police policing in dense urban areas and there is more than fifty per cent more likely to have interaction with police due to sheer numbers. Newly published research by Harvard professor Roland Fryer a highly respected researcher who happens to be black concluded that blacks and hispanics are treated more roughly in handling but do not get shot at more given interactions. Others can look him up. Fact is 50 percent of the victims of fatal police shootings were white, while 26 percent were black in 2015. Another fact is 12 percent of white and Hispanic homicide deaths in 2015 were due to police officers, while only four percent of black homicide deaths were the result of police officers, that last stat is due due to the ridiculously higher rates of homicides by blacks. 13% of population committing 51% of homicides. Ridiculous. Doesn't take a sociology masters to understand that disproportionate % of violent crime stats influence police preconceptions and biases as as well as fears. The fact that unarmed blacks ARE 5X LIKELIER than whites to be shot is a terrible terrible stat and certainly suggestive of heightened biases that must somehow be dissipated. It would be much easier to charge police as blatant racists if the crime stats of blacks especially of violent crimes were anywhere near proportionate to their population. The point of my posts is to speak freely on why its probable that police may have a stricter eye towards African Americans than other races. If we dont speak freely and honestly than change never happens. I only wrote on this thread because happened to watch a young African American girl say that white people were causing modern day lynching. I take serious offense to that and that prompted me to post here. Its incredulous that white people--even by these two cop killers--that white people are causing modern day violence against African Americans--its blasphemy and just incredibly wrong. There is some serious hatred embedded there---seems similar to the same embedded hate of Radical Islam.

He deservingly got 15 years in jail for his actions...Brook Turner got 6 months, how do you explain that other than privilege???
I say that to say this, most of these posts are distracting from the main point at hand that needs to be addressed.... "Black lives matter simply refers to the notion that there's a specific vulnerability for blacks that need to be addressed” Barak Obama. When someone says black lives matter, it doesn't mean that white lives do not matter. It doesn't mean that blue lives do not matter...Black people are asking for fair treatment with police and in the justice system. That's the issue that needs to be addressed....
