Knicks · Sullinger to the Raptors...1yr contract (page 1)

WaltLongmire @ 7/11/2016 2:58 PM

Good pickup for a team that wants some beef in the middle.

earthmansurfer @ 7/11/2016 3:00 PM
Real curious what he signed for. I imagine we couldn't afford him and just got Plumlee to fill out the roster.

Thanks. So we had no chance. That is comforting.

Timing is everything...We had basically spent our money before he became available.

there is not much difference between Sullenger and O'Quinn when Kyle gets minutes.

That's actually a very good point.

Supposedly KOQ has lost weight and is in better shape.

If he comes in with a different body and intensity, its as if we added a player in FA, because you couldn't really count on him last year for any kind of consistency.

Sullinger put on much too much weight during his injury...Not sure what he was thinking- might have cost him a few million.

Not like I'm "fat shaming" him, of course...don't want a libel suit.

The C's controlled who and where he could sign by the timing of the withdrawal of his qualifying offer.

Sullenger is going the Eddy Curry fatboy way

I thought of Sullinger as a redux of Big Baby or Bass or any number of other Celtics who otherwise seemed misft (e.g., too short to be a PF)

newyorknewyork @ 7/11/2016 9:33 PM
Sullinger is very talented if he ever got serious. He can pass, shoot out to 3, rebound, blk some shots. He has potential kind of sux Toronto was able to nab him.
tj23 @ 7/11/2016 10:00 PM
Haha sullinger is actually a pretty good player. Other than body type, KOQ is nothing like him

i am not a sullinger fan. but with my personal dislike of the player aside, this signing gives me even more faith that masai is the man.

let me explain...ujiri wanted to get a starting pf to the squad, especially considering we had old man scola starting last year. patteraon is an awesoe role player but ujiri wanted a big time starter there.

first up, ibaka. apparently we had parametrs of a deal in place for patterson and #9. then orlando went buck wild and offered way too much. okc came to us asking for cojo as well and ujiri said peace out.

next up was millsap. we had a deal in place provided horford resigned. which he didnt so that was done.

then we offered gasol and he chose the spurs over us...undrrstandable probably also knowing tim was retiring.

while all this was going on, all these other pf's signed but we had no real cap room and it woukd require dumping salaries and mortgaging some of our future to make it happen. ujiri always said he wants to win now but he also wants to build a sustained long term winner like th spurs. whike we may not be at that championship level, we are definitely a good franchise that could sustain this for a while.

so he waited it out and ended up signing sullinger who we hope resurrects his career for onr year to get paid. just like biz did. and like lou williams did the year before. he is not a long term answer bc he is a fat slob but he provides a decent one year stop gap that is an upgrade from scola. we are also planning to give carroll mins at the 4 when we play small at times.

also, keep an eye out on our 2 draft picks poeltl and siakam. they are players and make evolve into 10 min a game guys as soon as this year. but we needed vets and fattinger provides that.

At least you're brutally honest, you got a fat slob

nixluva @ 7/12/2016 12:01 AM
Sully should give the Raps good minutes. He's a solid slightly above average NBA player. You need guys like that up and down the roster to help be a winning team. That's what makes it a good move. Sure he's not someone that gets you excited but he can do the job at a solid level.

Yeah, much better player than O'Quinn. Very decent player to get at this stage of the FA process...and to lose him to a division rival like that...wow.

im sure swellinger probably is a bit pissed seeing all these contracts given out and he couldnt get one. its a wake up call so its now or never for him. he gets in shape and plays well on a winning team and he will get that $10 mil deal next summer. we are not resigning him no matter how well he plays for us so this is one of those marriage of convenience type deals where both parties can benefit and can amicably part ways after the season. this is so similar to the biz signing. we thought we coukd re-sign him for the mle but the summer's market and his highlight postseason play put him out of the salary range.

Yeah. He really let himself go a little bit from his Ohio State days. He has the talent but I think teams were not willing to shell out money to a player that has a rep of having weak work ethic.

He can ball though. Toronto got better. He's Fiesty and can hit threes. Good rebounder and inside player. Boston fans cask him Big Booty

Think Tyler Zeller is still available and be a great fit for us as he could backup 4/5. Dont know what he's seeking or whether we could create enuff cap with perhaps moving QQQ but Zeller is youngster with talent and dimension to game
