Back in the day, when the first Jock's and Jills opened on Tenth Street in Atlanta, this man was one of co-owners. Doc Rivers and Randy Wittman were his partners. Over the years, we crossed paths as fans and as co-workers in sports broadcasting. He was the pro. I was the amateur.
No matter when or where we met, Craig Sager always had much more than hello. He remembered my name and it felt special. He introduced me to Charles Barkley like we were old friends.
Once, at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, oblivious to the chaos, we talked sports and laughed amid the heavy traffic at the departures entrance. Craig gave me a card with his family picture. Despite his bout with cancer, he always keeps a smile. Last night, he received the Jimmy V award for courage at the ESPY's on national television. Craig never changed from those days at Jock's and Jills. Never.
Good stuff man. I am in Atlanta as well. So is TKF, and a few others. Maybe we need to plan our own season opening UK get together? Taco Mac in midtown or.... Stir It Up where we can probably get louder lol
I enjoyed this post *almost* as much as Sager's outfit last night
Thanks for sharing your story earl. I listened to Sager's speech at the Espy's, very moving, very uplifting.
