A few outlets are speculating the Knicks could trade Kyle Oquinn and a 2017 first rounder for Okafor. Would you do that?

Intriguing. In essence, he would become a second rotation player, and he could be tutored by Noah. We have a mature high character team, IMO...he would be much better off here than with the Sixers.
Philly has a logjam of bigs, but it would be amazing if they gave him up for that package. Does it mean that there's something about him that we don't know about?

I doubt this is a real rumor and couldn't see it happening if it was but it isn't.
Okafor has promise but I would rather have Noel becoming Noah's under study. I also would perfer it to be a 2018 pick. I can understand that the thinking maybe that They still have the two 2017 picks but if they traded a 2017 1st it needs to be protected because the season could go sour quickly due to health reasons. Also, the 2017 draft is so deep that the Knicks could theoretically come away with 3 players that would be equal to a top 15 player of the 2016 draft.

It would most likely be a low first round pick, so I would be ok with it. OK4 might benefit from a change of scenery, a team with more veterans on the roster, not to mention Phil.
Okafor is still on a very reasonable rookie deal so he wouldn't count that much against the cap, and it would give us added insurance in case Noah has any issues over the next 4 years. Pretty sure they would ask for more to send him to a division rival.

Teams sometimes work around this rule by trading first round picks in alternate years, or by giving one team the right to swap picks with the other.
As this applies to the Knicks, since business for the 2016-17 season has started, the Knicks can trade its 2017 first round pick without regard to whether they had traded their 2016 pick, since their 2016 pick is no longer a future pick.

Will you stop acting like a GD Hall Monitor? Martin was right, you dont get how message boards work. Doesnt matter if its true or not. Posters throw out scenarios, we dont fing wait for some journalistic or legal standard of accuracy to talk about wether or not some trade idea is a good one. Just shooting the breeze.

This thread is based not on the premise of 'let'd discuss a made up scenario" it's based on the premise "A few outlets are speculating the Knicks could trade Kyle Oquinn and a 2017 first rounder for Okafor," neither of which is true.
This is how and why fictional speculation resurfaces as "rumors".

We shouldn't trade that pick. Even with a good season, I believe we will come out with s better player than troubled Okafor.
The only future pick we should be trading with O'Quinn is the Bulls 2nd rounder for one of the other Plumlee brothers. Okafor could turn into Eddy Curry 2.0
