Knicks · Jennings showing the biggest thing our guards lacked last year (page 1)
The simple ability to break down your man off the dribble and get into the paint. Obviously Rose brings that as well. Jennings looks great changing directions and speeds with ball, nice moves in traffic... could be a very interesting player for us next year.

I suspect the Drew league has an open door policy to the hoop.
Jennings has that ability, but I wouldn't use that video as any proof of concept.

I did, in another thread.
If memory serves he was launching to the hoop pretty much from half court.
You do that when know one is home.
I wouldn't put too much stock in him beating his (Drew League) defender.
As I say, Jennings can get to the hole in the NBA, the video doesn't nothing to dispel or corroborate that.
Knickoftime wrote:totally disagree... Jennings has always been a shifty elusive guy and exceptionally quick (issues are with his shot selection, not his quickness). However the reason he signed for a 1 year $5mm with the Knicks is the market clearly devalued him no doubt based on injury. I am not worried about seeing Jennings vs. NBA players, I want to see how he is moving. I saw at least 4-5 moves from him that guys who don't trust their legs simply don't make.fishmike wrote:Knickoftime wrote:did you watch the video?fishmike wrote:http://dailyknicks.com/2016/07/20/knicks...The simple ability to break down your man off the dribble and get into the paint. I have the utmost respect for the NBA game. It isn't that guys are better shooters. They game is just played at a quicker, faster, bigger, higher, more powerful level.
All things are relative. The cuts, quickness, lateral movement it takes to beat a defender in the NBA is just a different level than it is playing against what were maybe some decent high school and college players.
I don't take anything from it, no. Do that at NBA speed, past NBA strength, quickness closing ability, then you got something.
And that is in no way skepticism Jennings can do it. I just don't take anything from this.

Jennings wasn't hesitant with sharp moves, he's there mentally as he's not worrying aout reinjury. At the same time, he was in the league last year and supposedly his quickness had fallen. Another year removed helps. Looking good but get a better gauge when comp and intensity is greater

I don't understand when people say Jennings is coming off an injury. He was injured 2 yrs ago. He came back last year and played the last 1/2 of the year. Same as Rose. They showed they are over the injuries and now are getting back to their old selves.

Please, just stop posting positive views. It upsets the delicate balance of negativity that fuels the site. Go find a story showing how Woodson hated being here, or why Phil's secretly feeding some of his salary to the Lakers, or how Melo's Olympic voice is going to be a detriment to KP's development, or....
Here is another clip (dont know if it was posted yet) of Melo and Jennings working out together a few days ago.

I can't wait for Jennings to take the floor. He was my top realistic target in FA - the fact they we got him super cheap on a "show me" deal is great. I think he can be really good here.

Just meant that Jennings has played half a season since the injury. Not like he hurt himself last year ,coming back this year and we have no idea what we are getting. He has already played and now has had the offseason to even get stronger and healthier.

Its why I worry about Rose's knees and a long term deal.
Finestrg wrote:I worry about Rose's knee problems and his ability to regain something close to top form and I worry about Jennings' health too as well as his ability to take good shots and shoot a respectable percentage from the floor. Couple that with the fact that neither is a true facilitator nor a guy who makes anyone better. Hopefully those concerns are mitigated by the positives we're hoping for from both players but those are the concerns and they're 100% legit. That's why I think picking up another PG should be taken super serious.
I agree. That's why its too soon to tell if this was a good idea. Have to see if Phil signs Rose, will he hold up? Will it be Curry 2.0? Rose out so much that he's untradeable, and his salary becomes dead cap space?
There are some things Rose brings to the table, but he has to be at the table, not on the IL for this to work.

I see that you've never actually been to the Drew. Very different than your average And1 Mixtape streetball kinda league. Players play extremely hard (although no one is trying to hurt anybody) and nobody cares who you are outside of the Drew, but that respect being earned factor is why top tier NBA players make the pilgrimage every summer to get run out there.
Check out this doc that Baron "Boom Dizzle" Davis did before casting assumptions about the level and quality of play there.
