Just read that he signed a one day contract to retire a knick, not sure why he would do that.
cause he is hassidic and he wants to go back home to his roots.

I have big respect. He took the money to come here knowing the pressure and what it would mean, he balled his ass off and put the Knicks back on the map. His body broke down and the rest was history. I know he did some dumb things here and of course never lived up to the contract but not for lack of trying.

Not sure why he chose to do this with the Knicks, but it was a classy move on the Knicks part. He should have retire a Sun though. All of his good years, except his first year with the Knicks, were with the Suns. Amazing how times flies. 6 years ago he was a superstar we just acquired. That was the most excited i had been about the Knicks in recent memory since this upcoming season. We finally had a superstar in his prime, we had Felton, who at the time seemed like a guy that was at the point in his career where he could take his game to the next level, and at the time he did for a little bit. We also had 3 young players (Gallinari, W Chandler, Anthony Randolph) with very good potential. Gallinari looked the part of a perfect 2nd scorer/star to Amare, and Randolph had potential, there was no question about that. If he had developed, he was the ideal 2-way center for today's game. Obviously never even came close to happening. But that was a team to be excited about. Hopefully this time around is different. But getting back to the original point, sad to see Amare's career come down to this, but also glad to see him retire instead of continue to float around the league any longer. He is a hall of fame player in 5 years.

I can't stand amar'e but at least this shows that he somewhat cared about the team and fans. I think he really should have retired a Sun though and this is a little disrespectful from their perspective.
I can see the point about the slight to the Phoenix fans, but he was
drafted by the Suns. As a free agent, he chose the Knicks. Or the Knicks chose him. Or he chose 5 years and $100 million?
"The Knicks are back!" — he may have been premature but he did bring back some sizzle.
Melo is his last Knick teammate left with his new forward of the future KP and the star power back with the recent signings — a bit envious? Wants to be part of the conversation and the story of the New Look Knicks? Took "Once A Knick, Always A Knick" to heart?
Those games when he was killing it with us seems so long ago... he was an exciting player to watch at his peak. Nice to see he's nostalgic!

Amar'e Stoudemire signed a contract with the New York Knicks and subsequently announced that he'll retire from the NBA, the club said in a statement Tuesday.
"I want to thank Mr. Dolan, Phil [Jackson] and Steve [Mills] for signing me so that I can officially retire as a New York Knick," Stoudemire said. "I came to New York in 2010 to help revitalize this franchise and we did just that. Carmelo [Anthony], Phil and Steve have continued this quest, and with this year's acquisitions, the team looks playoff-bound once again. Although my career has taken me to other places around the country, my heart had always remained in the Big Apple. Once a Knick, Always a Knick."
Stoudemire averaged 18.9 points and 7.8 rebounds in 846 career games over 14 seasons for Phoenix, New York, Dallas and Miami. The 6-foot-10 forward/center was named an All-Star six times and was selected to two All-NBA first teams. He was also named 2003 NBA rookie of the year.
Stoudemire played parts of five seasons in New York, signing as a free agent in the summer of 2010.
"For parts of six years, Amar'e Stoudemire was the face of the New York Knicks franchise because of his excellence on the court and his dedication to our community and our fans across the world," said Mills, the Knicks' general manager. "When Amar'e asked us to retire as a Knick, we were honored to oblige."

Carmelo Anthony summed up Amar'e Stoudemire's impact in New York with this quote from the night that the Knicks and Stoudemire agreed to a buyout: "One of the main reasons I'm a New York Knick today was because of him.... When he came [to New York] he brought back some excitement to the game of basketball here in New York. There was hope when he came back. People started believing in the New York Knicks again. He was the main reason for that belief and for that hope."

Really is a slap in the face to Phoenix franchise, it's fans, medical staff, and Steve Nash who basically made Amare a multi millionaire 100 times over.
Guess it makes sense to him financially and business after BBall wise, as he probably burned too many bridges with Phoenix.

YEAH the suns offered him chump change after yrs of service, and NY offered him real $, and he appreciated that
Classy move by NYK. Dolan is terrible, but even a fuckup like him can do right once in a lifetime.
Happy for Amare, good move by the Knicks. Hell with phoenix, this is a NYC basketball forum. They can feel sorry for themselves on their own site.
I'm assuming Amare wants the door to be open to possibly return at some point and work for the Knicks. Not that he couldn't do it otherwise, but maybe retiring as a Knicks displays his loyalty to the organization. Kinda like Larry Johnson. His best years were in Charlotte but he's viewed as a Knick.
