I'm assuming Amare wants the door to be open to possibly return at some point and work for the Knicks. Not that he couldn't do it otherwise, but maybe retiring as a Knicks displays his loyalty to the organization. Kinda like Larry Johnson. His best years were in Charlotte but he's viewed as a Knick.

Maybe he can convince KP to spend a couple wks with Hakeem

I thought I remembered reading that Hakeem stop doing that when he got a gig working for the Rockets?

Guess it makes sense to him financially and business after BBall wise, as he probably burned too many bridges with Phoenix.
YEAH the suns offered him chump change after yrs of service, and NY offered him real $, and he appreciated that
Can't remember...how much did Suns offer him...
Had some moments...but ultimately it can be seen as a bad decision because of his injuries...and we compounded it by not using our amnesty on him.
Somewhat of a cautionary tale for our recent signings, I suppose...hope the results are greatly different.

the same nash who bailed to LA and broke down and never really did anything as a Laker and now works with GSW? please.
AMARE is pure class. only thing he did wrong was punch that fire extinguisher and not play with a real top flight PG here.
By the time he got to NY, he wasn't the phenom that he was as a teen, but wow, really amazing PERSON and ballplayer. One of my all time favorites.

It was less years because their medical staff said his knees wouldn't hold up.

I always thought MDA pounded him into 42 minutes a night his first 50 games as a knick, he was never the same a month aftr melo arrived
What"s the point of this? Amare' just be goonin' and buffoonin'
Clasay move... the Knicks really mean "once a knick always a knick"...
You can also see it as Amare being Amare...he wants to set up his life after the game. Needs some publicity to sell his brand. This is a great launching pad for him. Chillin like a Hebrew should
My take is he is not a big fan of Sarver, owner of the Suns.
That said, they should retire his jersey.
If he goes in the hall of fame, which is about a 50-50 chance, he'll do it as a Sun.
its a small ceremonial act to retire a knick.
This guy was phenomenal to watch in person! I have never seen someone elevate at the speed he was able to.
Is he HOF material? I don't know, likely not, but it would be cool.
I guess he wants to give back to the team that he stole 100 million from
I approve of this message. Positive press from former players is good for the franchise. Mazal tov, Amare.
who gives a flying fuck about phoenix for christ sake? whoever is moaning about that on this board is in the wrong forum. there is no "should", rejects. go ny go ny go.
thanks for the heart, amare. too bad you and the knicks couldnt have more success while you were here.

I think baseball is the only sport where you go to hall representing a team.

Steve Nash will forever be remembered a Phoenix Sun the same way Amare will be. Back to back MVPs will do that for Nash and long playoff runs. Same with Amare. 5 of his 6 All star seasons were with Phoenix. Stoudemire also made the ALL NBA First Team with the Suns. Both are joined at the Phoenix hip, no brainer really.

I think your right. I kind of get why Amare is bound to NY as Dolan really stepped up and put a lot of faith in him. To Amare's credit, he really did bounce back but it was not sustainable and he just kept breaking down. Perhaps emotionally his sentiment is NY gave him two more years, $40mil more than PHX and valued him more than PHX did. Sarver ran the team as a business and made some mistakes, as did Kerr but they were moves that just did not pan out. Did not seem personal. Maybe AMare sees his future as being in NY and florida, where there is good deli to satisfy his Jewish DNA!
Suns should retire his number as he was a key player that defined an era of success.
Does it make sense as some articles are saying? I don't think they have really explained it to me other than he made the team relevant again, which is kind of over rated as to what was accomplished in the Amare-Melo Era. The 54 win season was a mirage built on a strong start by over the hill vets playing as if they were in their prime and strong finish on the back of Melo who carried the team to a great finish.
We won a playoff series. Not bad, but not that great.
Better days ahead.
I have no problem with Amare being part of the knick family. Personally I loved watching him play and enjoyed his embracing the city and the effort he put in.
This was a shocker to me. I give him credit for trying to be the savior. As the Phoenix Dr's said, his knees could not last.
I guess he really likes NY.
I'm sure he'll have some title with the Knicks in the future. I bet he saw how Herb, Starks and LJ have jobs for life with the Knicks and didn't wanna miss out on that
good for him....he's definitely a good guy although he definitely thought he was better than he actually was in his latter years...dwayne wade is headed the same direction with his comments after signing with chicago.
i agree with matt...he does see how dolan takes care of his loyal employees.

i would expect him in the HoF. He had enough great years.
