That said, they should retire his jersey.
If he goes in the hall of fame, which is about a 50-50 chance, he'll do it as a Sun.
its a small ceremonial act to retire a knick.
This guy was phenomenal to watch in person! I have never seen someone elevate at the speed he was able to.
Is he HOF material? I don't know, likely not, but it would be cool.

i would expect him in the HoF. He had enough great years.

Dolan treats local employees? Like the security guard he fired for not knowing him? Like Anucha?
I see how he treats Allan Houstan but he is an executive.
Guys like Starks and Mase are a different kind of player.
What does AMare need for a "Community relations" job? Man is worth tens of millions. Dolan takes care of guys that perhaps need some help and can help the team.
Herb was a nice assistant coach, not so much a honorary position. Mase was selling insurance, Starks tried his hand at coaching and had some community job. LJ, Not sure what he did but it was not because he needed the money, but I thought he based still in Texas and came back once in a while.
Amare should have a pretty sweet net worth and I doubt he needs to tale a job. What will he do with his time after he is done playing? I don't know. If he has a fashion studio or business and wants his brand associated with NYC than Arizona, I understand. But We don't.

As for HOF, 6 time all star, Rook of the year and one time first team is not HOF lock by any stretch. Never been to finals, never been MVP, never lead league in scoring, or rebounds. Played next to Two time MVP and that does not help. Might even detract.
I love the guy!!! Freaky athletic young kid defies projections and has a good 8 year run is enough for me. I just don't know.

I wonder if his retirement is from playing basketball full stop, or just the NBA. Because I remember him talking about maybe playing for Hapoel Jerusalem, the Israeli league team he's part of the ownership group for.

Blog hack say PHX rejected his request to have a farewell tour even if at min wage.
Not that Knicks are doing this either.
Hack goes on to say knicks don't have a good history as evident by ewing departure (he requested the trade), and Clyde being traded to Cleveland.
That was criminal BTW.
That's two instances in 50 years. Great take!

Intriguing... the Knicks are first place in being second choice I guess!

Knicks Rumors: Phoenix Suns Snubbed Amar’e Stoudemire
by Maxwell Ogden
https://dailyknicks.com/2016/07/27/knick...

Why did Amar’e Stoudemire choose to sign with the New York Knicks? It may have been the direct result of a snub by the Phoenix Suns.

The decorated 14-year career of former New York Knicks big man Amar’e Stoudemire came to an end on Tuesday, July 26. Stoudemire signed a one-day contract with the Knicks and immediately entered retirement.

Though many fans were flattered that Stoudemire chose to retire as a member of the Knicks, just as many wondered why he didn’t do so with the Phoenix Suns.

Stoudemire played for the Suns from 2002 to 2010. During that time, he averaged 21.4 points and 8.9 rebounds on 54.4 percent shooting from the field and made two Western Conference Finals appearances.

According to Arizona sports radio host John Gambadoro, Stoudemire wanted to play for the Suns in 2016-17, but the team didn’t express mutual interest.

That could explain why Stoudemire opted to retire as a member of the Knicks.

Stoudemire spent eight years of his life in Phoenix, but the Suns weren’t willing to bring him back for a farewell season. He likely would’ve been receptive to receiving the veteran’s minimum, and would’ve been a great mentor for a young roster.

In response to the snub, Stoudemire chose to retire with the organization that proved more loyal in the end: the Knicks.

This is an intriguing development for an organization that hasn’t exactly been historically loyal to its players. Keep in mind, this is the same Knicks organization that let Walt Frazier end his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers and traded Patrick Ewing to the Seattle SuperSonics.

If loyalty is the new trend in New York, then Knicks fans have an organization to be proud of.

No matter why he chose to retire as a member of the Knicks, it’s an honor to know that Stoudemire loved New York as much as it respected him

Yeah generally speaking, the Knicks have shown great loyalty to many players. Unfortunately, things ended badly with 2 of the greatest players in Knicks history, so they will always be used as examples to suggest otherwise.

He might not get in the first chance since he will be eligible during the strong class that includes Duncan and Kobe, but i can't see any way he doesn't get in at some point with a lot of the guys that have made it.

So the story is now that Amar'e only retired with the Knicks because the Suns denied him a contract this year, so he turned to the Knicks out of spite. Amar'e is not the great guy that most people believe he is, he's a backstabber and egomaniac (just like flu Tyson)
arkrud @ 7/27/2016 9:24 PM
We should sign one day contact with Isiah and have him retire as Knicks GM...

don't get why so many hear love or ever loved amare ... mind boggling / abused fan syndrome.

Anyone here have ESPN Insider? Can you post the article by Pelton on whether Amare will get into the HOF?

Because he said yes when everyone else said no. Then again when you bring home the fat chick from the bar when it's closing time, usually you don't want to remember or commemorate the dirty deed.

The Suns didn't want Amare to backup Tyson?

Haha, if only they were as good at leading a team as they are at finger-pointing, then we really would have had something

This is the link to the article: http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/amare-stoud..., I guess abcnews has the rights to espn insider articles.

It's an interesting argument, he does have some considerable accolades- 4x second-team all-nba, 1x first-team all-nba is nothing to sneeze at. It really depends on how much value they place in the longevity of a player's success. Most HOFs don't have to retire at his age when they are still physically able to play the game. It certainly says something that his old team won't even take a flier on him at a min deal. Personally, I don't think Amar'e has a BBIQ worthy of the HOF, but if he does get in it will have to be as a Sun.

Thanks. That was interesting. Many of the stats make him look like a hall-of-famer but the best stats that measure defense weren't around when he was in his prime.

Don't see any articles blasting him as a back stabber or bad lockerroom guy.
He was a starphuch. I don't blame him for the contract, I blame Dolan/Knicks for that deal.
Why the love? AMare was cool! The kid overcame the odds and made good from an unstable family. I liked watching the suns and Amare was fun to watch.
He was a dunk show and athletic specimen. He could jump, jump high, and jump FAST!
Amare dressed cool, acted cool, embraced his odd jewish (for him) heritage and also embraced his baby mama and married her!
Amares knees and back issues were many but I thought he gave rehabbing a great effort and really tried.
He is cool. Sometimes that's enough.

He threw every coach he's ever had under the bus when he said, as a 30 year-old nba player, that he was "never taught defense". I mean that's just a major slap in the face to not only d'antoni, but his high school and youth team coaches as well. He never understood that the responsibility to play defense falls upon the individual player's willingness to learn and give effort on that end every night. He also made some nasty, under-handed remarks about Carmelo, basically implying that Carmelo's ego pushed Lin out of town because his "diva" mentality couldn't handle sharing the ball and the love of nyk fans with an unproven Lin. Totally uncalled for, and a bad way to treat your former teammate that has given way more to knick fans than Amar'e and his glass knees ever did.

Panos @ 7/28/2016 10:28 AM
Who gives a F? Seriously?
For at least 2 years, fans couldn't wait to be rid of his contract. Now this empty, what, gesture? And it's even worth discussing? He was a great player for the Knicks for 1.5 years and dead weight for 3.5. Why does some BS 1 day contract make either him or the organization "classy"?
Let him go out a Heat.
Y'all are sheep.
