Knicks · Is KP already to developed to be a power foward anymore. (page 1)

fitzfarm @ 10/5/2016 12:34 PM
I'd have to say..... yes! At 21 he is the best player on the team he has considerably bulked up he is not a power foward he is a center.. the one issue last night was seeing him try to guard Ryan Anderson on the perimeter and Ryan Anderson is a turtle speed wise for a 4 and KP had trouble staying in front of him.

Also since he is our best player the fact he only took six shots in the first half was disgusting... the guy is truely unstoppable and at 7'3 he should be the focal point of the offense ... there was a inbound play with around 5 minutes in the third and he demanded so much attention it led to a wide open look for melo ... teams will have to double team KP always to try and stop him leaving melo,Rose,or Lee wide open ..

I thought it was disappointing there were offensive possessions where KP just stood in the corner and let the team almost forget about him. Also giving the opposition a huge break on defense ...it's time to give KP the ball ALOT! And force other teams to play defense.

I genuinely thought they would move KP to C this year before the FA Period started. I was a bit shocked when they signed Noah. If we are just talking about good team development, I think Noah will have a positive impact on KP -- show him how to be the leader on Defense. In practice, Noah's defense on KP will be valuable to help KP develop. But, in crunch time when we need points, KP is my center, not my PF.

fishmike @ 10/5/2016 1:00 PM
he never had a problem keeping up with Anderson. He got caught out of position many times. There is a difference. Failing to close out on a guy is not the same as not being able to stick with him.

I totally disagree. He's a much better weapon at the 4 on both sides of the ball. Last year's #s of KP with Lopez vs. KP without Lopez were very clear. He plays much better next to a center. Obviously its early but eventually the hope should be Willy at C and KP at PF.

Look at his game and not his size. At 7'3 you say obviously a center. What about his game says that? What about his game says PF? Everything about his game says PF.

Moonangie @ 10/5/2016 1:15 PM
His "new" shot has a quicker release that still happens way over most players' heads. With a slow-footed 5 trying to close on him at the 3pt line, he would feast. It's going to be exciting to watch him develop as a player, offensively and defensively. What a wonderful turn of events that Phil done got us a unicorn. Deeyaaam.

It seemed like they actually picked on KP on defense and it looked like he was a step slow . Ryan Anderson's 3rd quarter was 17 pts all with KP guarding him ...let's say that again Ryan freakin Anderson dumped 17 3rd quarter pts mostly on KP while forcing our best paint presence out of his comfort zone . I wonder what a actual star pf could do vs him if a role player like Anderson can drop 17 3rd quarter pts on him

At 7'3 he should be dominating the paint defensively and grabbing rebounds . On offense KP can destroy pretty much any player that tries to defend him regardless of wether it's a power foward or center.

If you put KP at the 5 and melo at the 4 it opens the floor for everyone else . Wouldn't be surprised to see Noah traded before his contract is up . No disrespect to Noah it's just that KP is a star at center and look at how much bigger KP is this year .

The agree his offensive game doesn't have a position . But defensively it dose and that is at center where he can force opponents out of the paint .

I think the idea was that Noah will have a positive impact on this team and Porzingis in particular, but playing only 24-28 mins a game will allow KP to play at least half of his time at the center. In a couple of years, Noah will no longer be the starting center and KP will assume that position full time. Noah will become a 15-20 mpg backup late in this contract. He is getting paid as much for his leadership and toughness than his minutes on the floor.

Agreed...I would also add his passing skills which are perfect for the triangle or high post.

We haven't seen Noah play with KP yet....

Simma!

Disgusted after one preseason game?
Coaches did not have a game plan. Why?
Cuz Rockets can't be scouted!!! New coach, new players, etc!!!
Few Power forwards can shoot like Anderson!

Does KP rebound like a center? Also I don't see a major physical development change in PorzinGis from the start of last year and this season.

He's about the same weight as beginning of previous season, maybe a pound or so more. He mentioned he concentrated on core and legs.

Just have to say you can stay the same weight but through training develop your physique. It's called getting swoll by getting money in the gym.

That id definitely possible but all Porzingis did was add back the weight he lost during the season and this summer instead of focusing on his upper body he focused on his legs and core like Martin mention earlier. If his legs are strong enough to not get pushed around he will likely get more minutes at the 5 than last year and as the years pass he just may very well become a 5 similar to how KG grew into a 5.

KP is as much of a threat on offense as anyone else on this team, if not more. He did the rookie thing, KP is going to have to be assertive and demand the ball. Be respectful, but dont take a backseat to the other starters.

No one save for Sasha has a ring. Melo has to show he can still be the man in the coming months or let KP get more looks. He's not the only game in town anymore.

ideally you want this transition to take place, but it doesn't unless THE COACH mandates it. leaving it up to kp6 alone is not going to catalyze it.

That is an awesome problem to have. Also both guys like and respect each other. Melo in NY allows KP to grow and blossom without all of the media attention on him.
nixluva @ 10/5/2016 11:09 PM
KP should continue to develop this year and show he's capable of playing 4 and 5. There's no need to rush or panic about how he's used. Talent like his will rise to the top. His teammates recognize his talent and will look to him more and more. Just need to allow time for the chemistry to fully develop.

You mean like when Don Nelson tried to get Ewing to pass more? Melo has been great at mentoring KP. I don't believe its anything sinister at work here. We have two volume shooters on the team in Melo and Rose. KP has to be assertive, if it devolves into Rose and Melo trading buckets. Thats what I saw yesterday. Granted, its just one game, but it highlights what can happen when KP gets lost in the shuffle, like we saw in the first half.

At some point (maybe soon) KP will be the better option, just want his teammates to recognize that time when it comes, whenever it comes.

Im sure Hornacek will say something if it ever got to that point. KP has to show he has what it takes to lead the team down the road, cant be too deferential.

NYKBocker @ 10/6/2016 10:28 AM
KP can play both positions. He will be effective no matter what. The question is ..."Who is your best player to play with him in the frontline?" if you move Melo to the 4 spot who will be at the 3 spot? It's really a fun problem to have.

He can play both position effectively. In the future though, he is better at center for matchup reasons. He is the future of the center position with the way the NBA is changing. He allows you to essentially play small ball, but still be very big. Best of both worlds.

Nalod @ 10/6/2016 1:25 PM
He worked on his handle in the offseason which tells you he will spend time on the paremeter.
He will also have to move more without the ball if he is to create space as per triangle.
There is nothing this kid can't do.
