Oooh I'm very curious about the nbdl contract changes. They needed to improve that relationship for a while now.
im so happy for this.
hopefully they will increase salaries for D-League players so that "fringe" players dont have to go overseas. I also hope they increase the roster spots for 2-3 players specifically for minor league call ups!!
you think donte green wants to play in israel?!?! lol

I admittedly don't understand the NBA and the D-League.
Why wouldn't the NBA and the NBPLA want to go to a MLB kind of
"minor league" system that would allow players to move back
and forth between D-League and NBA rosters (?)
unlike the NBA, MLB does NOT have the luxury of the NCAA developing and marketing their young players (for free). as a result, im sure the NBA was hesistant to build and fund a developmental system when the NCAA provides that for them. the difference now is that kids are leaving pro and they NEED to be developed. therefore a system or D-League was installed. now its a matter of making it more coordinated (each team has a D League team) and more financially stable so that kids will stay here instead of overseas

Agreed. Adding 2-3 slots like that increases the amount of jobs available in the NBA. And makes roster management easier for teams. It seems like a win win. And I believe there are enough NBDL teams now that there are almost as many NBDL teams as NBA teams now... well, looks like 22 teams, but that is up from years previous. There are five new teams this season.
If a player is bound to one team, he limits opportunities to get called up.
Players who need development should stay in college. If they want to get paid, but are undeveloped they can play in the NBDL or overseas but do they get time to develop?
Why should teams pay big money for an undeveloped kid? "Potential"!!! ok, but that's why the kid should stay in school and develop there.
They have special academic programs for student athletes.
Athletes need to think about how they can raise their value, not feel entitled to riches.
Im all for them getting paid but teams also can't get burned having a 10 year contract on a rookie like Kwame Brown and be destroyed for years. NFL, MLB does very well because of parity when worst to first scenarios can happen in a short period of time. Current system of home team able to extend a rookie, or match a salary is a good deal for both. If the starting salary should be higher, Im ok with that.
