I see the future as KP at 4 and Willy at 5. What we will have to do is piece players around those two over the next 2-3 years. Hopefully Baker can show he can shoot and finish. I think he can play some 1 guard. This has been my hope all along, even before I really saw him play. For a couple of best buddies playing in EU together to end up together on the Knicks is simply too cool not to root for. The best part is Willy is looking like a real stud and a high BB IQ player. His skills also compliment KP. Willy is a pure under the rim player and brings a great physical blue collar approach, which KP is the monster on help defense and crashing the boards. They have a great inside/outside combo and could be frontcourt mates for a decade. Getting Willy in that draft from Phili goes down as a great move for Phil. Fingers crossed on this kid, but there is nothing but love at this point. Having the support of KP and seeing him succeed has clearly galvanized Willy. Awesome stuff all around.
Willy Hernangomez compliments Noah's performance perfectly, the more they play together i see their rythm of talent becoming better than Noah & Gasol.
I do not know where all this crazy tandem HYPE for KP & Willy are coming from other than being optimist because the two didnt play in the same lineup on their previous teams. Plus like i said KP talent has not showed to be a inside threat on offense or defense, yes KP can rebound yes KP can block shots, No KP cant box-out no KP cant screen no KP cant throw a direct lob pass after grabbing a defensive-rebound.
No KP presence has never come into the game to help his teammates outscore opponents .. not one game last year or in the preseason game.
Willy Hernangomez is the MAN .. ROY !!!
much better fit next to KP than Noah. Willy is a 5, not a 4.Willy is a 4 in the NBA.
Willy speed movement n IQ are somewhat like Duncans a better 4 than 5
Willy will run when Noah starts a fastbreak .. in the Boston game KP nor Melo ran the two times Noah started the fast breakBtw... 5 = center.
In the NBA preseason games Willy showed repeatedly he could cover and dominate both forward spots on either side of the court.
As a coach who have an experience Top-3 center in Noah, plus a upcoming rookie center in Plumlee (need NBA playing-time for growth), what position would u play Willy at during his rookie season ???The NBA today is about spacing. KPbcan knock down 3s opening up space for the center or guards or forwards. Willie doesn't provide thats spacing quality at the 4. Putting Willie at the 4 would mean he would have to guard on the perimeter vs todays stretch 4s.
You said it best .. the NBA does a lot of spacing, which they did back in the daze, only dum opponents fall for it.
Its nice to have a PF shoot the 3 ball once every 2 or 3 games (Horry), not once or twice each quarter (Dirk). You can count all the 3 Balls Duncan shot in his career with one hand. How many rings he got?
Im trying to imagine Oakley shooting a 3 ball AGGY

Willie isn't likely to be Tim Duncan. You can't base your ideals on the impact of the best PF to ever play in the NBA.
Put it this way though. Imagine Willie surrounded by 3 pt shooters. Either he gets a one one one post matchup or he can find an open 3 pt shooter or cutter if help comes. He becomes more deadly. Same principal for Noah on offensive rebounds and PNR. Just like Tyson when Melo played the 4 in that 54 win season.
The purpose of spacing is to make it easier for the big man or penetrating guard. Putting Willie at the 4 is only a by nessesity type of move which you need more size at that moment.
you can't give clarence gaines enough credit.
He is much quicker than I thought he was going up and down the floor. Will have to tighten things up on D, but a smart player can make adjustments...and he seems to be a smart player.
I thought he was a steal when we drafted him...and you really can consider him to be equal to a #1 pick-low 20's-potentially high teens- in this draft.
If you step back and look at Willy, Baker, Randle, Ndour, and Plumlee as draft picks in this past draft- since none of them had played in an official NBA game before this year- you can spin it that we had a damn good "draft" without having a single pick.

Actually.... you can't give Gaines any credit this time:
The Knicks were more than interested in the stash pick who is known as a solid rebounder, giving first-rounder Kristaps Porzingis a friend and former teammate. When general manager Steve Mills watched a game in Spain to scout Porzingis play for Sevilla, he noticed his teammate could serve as a legitimate big man in the NBA too.

And remember, the first time that Phil met Willy he told him "I like your game" so he's been on board from the get go.

If we see it then Hornacek and the rest of the Knicks coaches see it and then some. We should be careful not to get our hopes up so quickly even though what we've seen so far looks like this kid has a chance of being really good because he's still gonna need time and he hasn't gone against any real bigs in a real game so lets be patient with this kid and hope they bring him along the right way.

Marc Gasol was a 2nd round pick and he's the guy that some are comparing Billy to so it hasn't been 20 years but yes he looks like he's gonna be a great 2nd round pick. Where did we get him at #35 right?? Gasol was #48 and i know we traded for his rights.

He's def got the size of an NBA center. He's also got a body that is going to get bigger and stronger. He's already a tank. In a couple years he's going to be a straight up bruiseryou can't give clarence gaines enough credit.
