I think the comments weren't just about this one game. This is going to be a continuing theme as the Knicks develop their chemistry on both ends. I actually do think the Knicks roster can compete with the Cavs, in theory. They have to go out and prove it but in terms of ability I think the Knicks roster has some aspects that can matchup well against the Cavs best players.Lebron - Melo
Kyrie - Rose
Love - KP
JR - Lee
Thompson - Noah
There is no major mismatch at the top of the Knicks roster.
For one game, maybe. LeBron just showed why he is the best player in the world when folks were ready to hand that over to a dude that doesn't guard his own position in Curry, and quite honestly doesn't guard anyone well at all. LeBron went all world to come back from a 3-1 deficit. Melo isn't on LeBron's level, that mismatch is blatant. we were just discussing if melo is even in the top 15....lol, but you wanna compare to the best player in the league? The issue you'll find is if the Knicks win, guys like you will swear from the mountains how even the teams are, when reality is LeBron's team don't go full pedal down early on, they turn up when it matters as the games mean more. For instance, the Heat only was the top seed iirc just once during his time there. 1st year was the Bulls,..they got smacked by the Heat, then the Bulls again, but Rose went down...wasnt expecting nothing any different. 2012-13 was the only year the Heat actually was the 1st seed and that had a lot to do with who was 2nd and 3rd. The fourth year in Miami, the pacers were the 1`st seed. Bye bye Indy, heat spanked them again enroute to four straight NBA finals.
But it's plain disrespect to think a team has a legit chance to knock off a team led by a player who has made the finals 6 straight years. As I stated before, a balanced attack. if any player goes in thinking they will dominate their matchup, they might, but the team will take an L.
Kristaps really should, followed by Rose as the second option. Kristaps should have an edge on Love in almost all facets. Rose has historically performed well against Irving so should be fine, however he may take a game to get settled back in. So for me Kristaps is primary on opening night.
KP needs to close out the 3pt line vs. Love who will just camp and fire away. KP could get into trouble if he's lacking in this regard.
On offense KP will make things difficult for Love, who can't guard many let alone Porzingis. I look for the Cavs to body up KP, maybe put a smaller strong guy on him to pester. That tactic showed some success last year. We'll see if KP has a counter strategy in place this year.

Love can also put the ball in the floor a little bit. That's the thing that gives KP trouble right now, determining the space needed to give his man and still maintain good defensive positioning on the drive. Love has shown a more diversified offensive game under Lue. I expect KP to do damage as well, but he'll have more responsibilities-especially as a help defender. Whoever has the hot hand should get the ball. I expect KP to impact the game I just don't expect to drop 30.
Would like to see KP work on Love in the low post, get him in foul trouble, more tentative.
As far as who should be the primary scoring option. The philosophy should be with all the weapons on this team, is to feed the hot hand. Once someone cools off, try something else.
Its not like some seasons when Melo was too often the only serious option to score, becuase no one else could hit the side of a barn. Make the most of all the talent on this squad.
Rose should give Kyrie fits! That's our biggest advantage on offense.

This CURRENT Knicks team hasn't been together over the last 6 years! So it's logical to compare how this CURRENT Knicks roster might matchup with the Cavs. We all know how great Lebron is so there's no point trying to get into that argument. I think you have to at least recognize that Lebron has been on some much better teams over the last 6 years as well. That does have an impact on the matchup. Still Melo is a guy that can make the matchup less of a mismatch than it is for most every other team Lebron plays. I think Lebron would tell you that Melo is not an easy matchup for him. I don't agree that the matchup in a playoff series would necessarily be so blatant a mismatch. Lebron won't be able to just roam on D and help his teammates when he's playing Melo.

In the past Lebron has had the benefit of better help around him. Now this year Melo has more of a team around him than he's had recently and I think the Knicks have a chance to be a good matchup against the Cavs. It's gonna be very interesting to watch how things develop this year.

The middle of the second quarter will tell us if the Knicks will match up well against Cleveland. If we are down more than 10 points it over.
