The NBA is kinda becoming a joke no more post game no more physical game, no more grind outs .
Teams are just passing around the perimeter till someone is open from downtown . It's kinda boring and nobody plays defense anymore .
Bring back handchecking and let's bring back physical games . Games like Detroit vs la or Knicks va bulls of the 80'sand 90's don't exist anymore
NBA is becoming whimsical and somewhat boring
the 3 is fine... let them hand check and play a little. The defense has been neutered

I couldn't agree more. Derek Harper would've knocked the Currys of the world on their ass if they kept chucking. Really hard to get separation when you can be as physical on the perimeter as you can be in the post
no next question...if anything they might add a 4pt line. lol
as oppose to the slow down, low scoring brutally physical game that became so dull, the nba's rating plummeted once Mike left
Nobody needs MJ's moves anymore. You can just drive the lane with impunity.
Welcome to the era of "I'm not going to be posterized no matter what" basketball.

That's it... the nba is a soft league

Exactly ... less skill is needed to be a star in this league

allowing hand checking and more physical play would upgrade the product. Less 1-1 play because its easier to guard now. Now you need to use ball movement, screens, player movement etc go get separation and that's just a better game to watch. They wanted more offense, I have no problem with that. A little too far in that direction though.
Thought about this at our local gym recently.
Thought what would happen if every bucket inside the line was worth 2 and every bucket outside the line worth 1.
95% of the guys just chuck 3's up and 95% of them have no mid-range or inside game -- they wouldn't know what to do if they had to shoot something other than a 3.
Call a three seconds on the three point line make them play inside.
Wait.... The NBA, the most healthy and popular it has been (or possibly ever?) since Jordan, should take away the main reason of it's success? Are you kidding me?
Yeah, the NBA is super popular right now. They aren't going to just change that. Just remember, us hardcore basketball lovers, who remember that 90s fondly, are not a majority of the basketball fan universe. The majority of people watch because they want to see the superstars score a lot, see some dunks and also watch their team win by any means necessary.
Besides, with the increased athleticism, legal handchecking would probably lead to more fouls than less. The
Players are far different and trained now than 20 years ago.
The Steph Curry effect; it's worse than PS4.
I watched a bunch of AAU tournaments through the summer. All these high school kids, some of them with the worst form I've ever seen, hoisting up 3 after 3 after 3. Some of them from just over half court. It was painful to watch at times, especially when you have 6'6", 6'7" juniors and sophomores who you can tell can barely handle the ball, tossing up airballs from 30 feet out.
I absolutely love the three as a side dish,
1) because it can pull a team back into a game,
2) it can force teams to defend the perimeter, thereby opening the lane,
but when it becomes the main course, it's almost as bad as running a stall.
Papabear Says
Yes they should get rid of the 3 point range and move it back around half court for a 4 point play. The game has been watered down so much now. Bring back checking and I agree the Derek Harper type of defense to be allowed. All I see now in the school gyms when kids are playing basketball is all they want to do is shoot 3 pointers.

This idea has a lot of merit.
Revisionist thinking bout "the good old days".......
When Knicks and heat would battle to a 73-69 score. No thank you.
When a big man can take the post and make it work, then you will have dominance.
Centers today are no longer fat (Sweetney, Duckworth, Tractor Traylor, Oliver Miller, Eddy)and that era is gone.
Where are the big guys? I don't know. Shaq ate them all up!
Where are the skills? DJordan can't shoot free throws, Dwight never improved, Javale Mcgee is lazy, And others get hurt.
3 point line was there in the hand check era, and was there in the Bad Boy era, knicks, and Bulls era.
Zone defense forces the game out to the parimeter as well.

I could not agree more. I see kids jacking shots up today with no hope of making any. 10 years ago they would have been punched in the face for shooting one. Nowadays that's all they shoot.

Welcome back Bip. Good to see you. With that said...
When I was student teaching physical education, I was allowed to play some bball games with the students during recreational periods. I won't say where obviously. It was the most frustrating thing to watch because all they wanted to do was jack up 3s while shouting "Splash brothers!!" Yuck.
