Knicks · Do you think dolan will have the balls to fire phil if we dont make the playoffs (page 1)

In other words, Hornacek is not scraping the offense in advance of Saturday’s home opener against Memphis. In fact, he hinted that Jackson, who attended Thursday’s practice, wants the new coach and players to exercise patience and practice the triangle.

“Well, you know Phil’s been great trying to emphasize, ‘yes you want to win games but you want to get better as the year goes on,’” Hornacek said. “So if you back out of something, just because it’s not working offensively or defensively, you can’t all of a sudden start changing things because it may not work right now. The point is to try to get better at that particular thing and that’s what we're trying to do.”

same quote the last 2 seasons, and we will have the same results. You old fool.

I forgot, how many games have we played so far this yr?
holfresh @ 10/27/2016 6:51 PM
Yes...Phil pulled off a trade that surprised most of us a month ahead of MSG earnings...MSG earnings came in worse than expected a month after the trade...MSG revenues are lower than in Woodson's era when the Knicks were making the playoffs..I won't doubt that Phil got a look at earnings before they actually came out...Less eyeballs on MSG, less fans at the Garden and less demand for season tickets etc...The team need a buzz again..In comes Rose and Noah...If the Knicks don't make the playoffs and revenues are still low then I won't be surprised to see a separation between Phil and the organization ...
knicks1248 @ 10/27/2016 7:36 PM
he can not afford to scrap a season teaching the triangle to players that are flat out not interested just to prove a point
newyorknewyork @ 10/27/2016 7:52 PM
No he wouldn't. More likely Phil would opt out or step down before Dolan fired him.
CrushAlot @ 10/27/2016 9:38 PM
I don't think he fires Phil. Performance aside, he had to be forced to fire Isiah and I believe he had a very difficult time firing Layden. Also, he would be doing Phil a favor. Instead of being judged on having autonomy and the results he achieved Phil would become the next guy in the you can't win in NY line.
GustavBahler @ 10/27/2016 9:59 PM
Hornacek will be the first casualty, if anyone. After that, Dolan will say to Phil in essence to _____ or get off the pot. If Phil wants Hornacek to succeed, he will let him call the shots. I have no idea right now if Jeff is or isnt. Too early in the season. Eventually it wont be too hard to tell IMO.

why would dolan fire jackson? dolan has already been shamed by the nba when stern said the knicks were not the model of intelligent management. how do you think the nba will react if dolan fires jackson, someone who dolan admitted made him see that he understood nothing about the game?

the only reason why dolan would fire jackson is because dolan is a malignant narcissist, an impetuous brat.

i have been saying that the knicks are about a 38-win team, and that at least rose and jennings are one-year auditions, which reduces long-term futility while the knicks continue the long, slow process of building a champion.

in other words, phil is right. yes you want to win but not at the expense of making the team better in the longer term. otherwise we are back to the pathetic, tin-plated, empty calorie woodson era.

culture change is not an overnight thing.

Y though? We have a stable and promising cap situation. We have a promising potential star in KP. We have 4 rookies that look like they can play in this league and may form a nice role playing core for the future. All while not having a draft pick this past off season. We have all our draft picks going forward. And everyone likes the head coach and feels he is a quality one.

nyknickzingis @ 10/28/2016 6:57 AM
I could sort of understand a reaction like this if Rose wasn't facing a rape trial and away from the team for 3 straight weeks. Or had Noah been healthy.

The two biggest changes in the core/starting lineup are Rose/Noah. And they both have barely played together with Melo/Porzingis.

The fact is Rose does have the freedom to run screen/roll. He can do it virtually any time. He has the freedom to push the ball up. The issue right now is that Rose is a ball dominant player, and is is not on the same page with another ball dominant player like Melo. It takes time for all the pieces to fit. Sometimes they never do.

I don't know how anyone who watched preseason and saw how Jennings did with the starters can blame this on the Triangle or Phil. This is a Derrick Rose problem. His personal life has directly affected the Knicks preparations and season. People wondered why the Bulls practically gave him away, this is why.

Jennings didn't play well against CLE, but I saw a similar lack of chemistry when Rose started against Houston. I found when Jennings started the team played much better, because he's more decisive and less ball dominant than Rose. Jennings is more willing to play the 4th/5th option role than Rose is. Rose basically needs to become a SG/combo guard more along the lines of a Kobe, and that will take him a lot of time.

Way I see it, give Rose a month. If he's still not looking good, you make a change.Switch Jennings with Rose. Heck even Baker. I am also in favor of trying Jennings at PG, Rose at SG. Let Rose be more of a natural scorer, instead of trying to worry about picking it all up.

Last thing, Melo was 5-0 in Knicks season openers. Last year we blew out Milwaukee on the road. Looked incredible. Then by season's end, we looked like we could only win a game once in 2 weeks. I much rather start slow and get better as the season wears on and peak in Feb, March and April heading into the playoffs than the opposite. So long as we stay close to .500 for the first 6 weeks I'm ok with guys needing time to understand each other. Heck, Miami in 2010-11 were playing .500 ball for the first 20 games of their season. Lebron's first season back with Cleveland, they began very slowly. When you add a lot of talent together it takes time. We're not on the same level as Cle/Miami but we have a heck of more talent this year than last. It will take time. Especially when guys like Rose basically skip 90% of presason due to their trial.

I believe JH wants Rose to push and attack first before the triangle. The problem was Rose in the beginning was turning the ball over rather then converting on those pushing attempts. Though we saw a glimpse at the end of the 2nd when we came back and made that run before half. But at the end of the day we also were playing the Cavs who are the defending champion in Cleveland.

Rose can pick his spots to attack early or give the ball up and play off ball in the triangle.

Well it's just projections on the outcome if they don't make the playoffs..Let's say that MSG is a publicly traded company with a board of directors and stock holders..Dolan poured over a billion dollars into Madison Square Garden in the last few years..They were profitable and the stock took a nice ride higher before Phil got there...Now, with the Knicks being the company's primary earner, they have lost money the last three quarters, with earning on deck again Nov.4th, viewership is down, less demand for tickets, less money from sponsors, less people watching MSG Network...Do you really think they care about people liking the coach or rookie role players with no draft picks or Phil teaching the triangle??

I'm not saying it's a done deal, but if your moves are not producing WINS, you have to question the counter moves. This is a big season right here, and it's a must we get out of the gate on a high note to build confidence. Im sick of hearing players question the triangle and then failing at it, and turning them into a bust.

Phil can get any player in the league, star or role player, but what's the purpose if they aren't producing WINS..

outside of yourself, according to whom? talk radio hosts trying to rile the nincompoops of the fanbase? jackson said his goal was to build something lasting. he can't do that if the owner fires him, and you can't expect that if, like walsh, he is given just half a season of building after two years of roster flush. remember what happened between 2008-january 2011? i'll remind you: walsh was brought in as a responsible adult in the room to help the knicks back into respectability. he tore down the roster, trading longer bad contracts for shorter bad contracts... over two years. only in 2010 was there the germ of a reconstruction after that teradown.

and now you want a repeat of that? comeawn, man!!
