Knicks · Unsung players last night--Holiday and Oquinn (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 10/30/2016 10:24 AM
I like Holiday--hes much taller than you think and he will step up and hit a shot. Oquinn seems to be following through so far with some of that exhibition play. If he can keep that up the 1-2-3 with Noah Willy and he will more than hold the fort down.

Too many defensive breakdowns again last night. We shot very well but we only locked down for short periods.

this is pretty funny... I didnt have these two even on my radar this offseason and preseason. Dare I even say I was hoping to see KOQ outplayed for Willy, but the simple fact is Holiday and KOQ have both earned their rotation spot and are playing great. I remember reading some realgm posts on the Chi board upset that they lost Holiday and many there really liked him. He's spring, plays good D and has some offensive pop.

100% agree. Especially give KOQ credit. He worked on specific things, he got visibly quicker and he's been great. I thought he was terrible at the 4 and decent at the 5 last year when he had his good moments. Right now he's subbing exclusively for Noah it seems. It also seems that JH hasnt gone small yet, that he's leaving 2 bigs on the floor.

CrushAlot @ 10/30/2016 10:42 AM
Agree with both posts. Also, I think KOQ brings in a lot of energy when he comes onto the floor. KOQ and Noah going all out has to wear on a team as a game goes on.

The bench has some potential. O'Quinn does nice things when he just plays his game and doesn't try to to too much. My main issue with him is he slows down the offense and the fast break when he grabs the rebound. If he addresses that, he is a nice piece. Willy will get there, but he obviously isn't ready. O'Quinn needs to provide those big minutes and toughness off the bench. Holiday has been a nice surprise. He might not be the offensive liability i thought he would be. The main thing our bench lacks is a scoring wing. Maybe we can address that in the offseason, but for now, seems like we should be able to get enough offense by-committee off the bench on most nights.

You knew KOQ would be a little better this year when you heard that he had worked on his body in the
off-season.

Been pretty happy with Holiday...seems more confident on the offensive end and you have to love his wingspan on D. Had a pull-up midrange J at one point that impressed me.

Holiday seemed like a throw-in, but he looks like a valuable player in the rotation at this point, and my feeling is that he will get even better as the season goes on.

Phil and Jeff said Holiday wasn't a throw in. They loved his defensive ability and he's got just enough experience.
It's good to see him get going cuz he has great size n length which makes him flexible on D.

KOQ was ticking me off early in preseason but then seemed to get his act together heading into the season. I'm glad cuz we needed him to do his job. It helps to solidify the main rotation!

Have said since pre season. Holiday has special athletic ability. Needs playing time. He always seems like one of the best athletes on floor. O'Quinn just not consistent enough for me. Would like to see Plumlee get some more time and KOQ traded for some extra shooting off the bench. But he did play nicely yesterday. Hopefully he proves me wrong.

I agree - I think if they can be consistent the Knicks will have a pretty decent bench.

Also agree about the defense.

I have little faith in O'Quinn being remotely consistent throughout the season, but Holiday has been encouraging so far. I want to give it a bit more time before relying on him long term but I like what he has shown so far.

KOQ doing well is great news. That means his trade value will be high.

Good point. If we develop confidence in Willy and Plumlee proves he can be serviceable, perhaps KOQ becomes trade bait.

I wouldn't mind another reliable shooter.

YES both holiday and OQ made contributions and OQ looks trimmer and prepared. The Memphis broadcast had Keith Smartnsaying how the Knick first unit was slow andthe second unit inept. If Jennings settles in and Baker makes the rotation, then Lance and Holiday can play D and shoot, Baker can play D and shoot and OQ and the second willl be set. Interesting to see if Mindy can step up as a consistent scorer.
TLover @ 10/31/2016 12:48 AM
Would like to see Holiday start over Lee. Holiday seems to mesh well with the starters and Lee would solidify our bench.
