Knicks · We need to follow tonights blueprint (page 1)

Very Good tonight BUT we need to follow this pattern in order to have success. Jeff said that KP needs to ball the most and to his credit he followed through with that promise. Rose and noah had very good overall game. This is the type of game we need from rose consistently. Melo had some good moments near the end too. The most important thing is treating KP as our main guy from here on out. Great win hopefully we build on it
fitzfarm @ 11/4/2016 10:54 PM
yes making kp the main man is what this team needs .... love, love, love lee's game tonight he is the perfect lunch pal guy 40 minutes tonight.with rose,KP,melo,Noah... lee is going to get a lot of great looks and he sure did capitalize on those looks tonight!!

Who cares who the main guy is? A good team has different guys that can step up any given night. You think Golden State fans are fighting who the main guy is? This obsession with KP being the main guy or Rose only taking certain amount of shots is getting old. Ofcourse all players need to be involved on offense. But it's got to be a desire for all players to be involved, not just KP or Melo or Rose. That's what the really good teams do. But yes, they did a good job tonight involving KP and Lee more often early. But keep saying, defense should be the main concern not who is shooting the ball on offense.

We go as far as porzingis brings us. No doubt about it.

exactly dude. Obviously noah melo and rose are important but its proven we win when he is the main focus

It's not so much that KP is the "Main Guy". Just that when they see he has a mismatch "HIT HIM". It's just smart basketball. This team has to have Ball and Player movement. When they do they're gonna be hard to stop. Defenses will always end up rotating and KP will end up with a mismatch inside. We have capable players and once they know the formula I believe they'll really take off. So they don't have to force it to KP. Just be aware of him at all times and feed him when he's open or has an advantage.

Really like how BJ looks for KP as the trail man. Noah looks for KP and tonight we saw KP hit Noah on a Big to Big PnR.

yeah i didnt mean feed him EVERY time but when he is open or mismatches you need to get him the ball. We didnt do that in previous games or last year and we lost
meloshouldgo @ 11/4/2016 11:31 PM
The team played well overall, but this 9-22 shit from Melo is getting old.

I was frustrated cuz I KNOW that Jeff's plan was to play the way they did tonight. I just couldn't understand why they weren't doing it. You can see the talent we have and what they can do if they are in sync and properly focused.

Now they have to keep doing this and try to develop some of the younger guys as well. We're gonna need them. There is plenty of talent on this team but it's gonna take time to develop and build up chemistry with the whole roster. Hopefully this is the beginning of that process.

Didn't realize I wasn't relaxed? You? Agreed with most of what you said. Just not the need to focus on "Main Guy" label. And never attacked you for not mentioning defense. Just pointed out that should be a good teams main focus. Specially the way we looked thus far.

fitzfarm @ 11/4/2016 11:54 PM
jeff came through with his words and made kp the main focus for most of the game . keep it up kp has one of the greatest supporting cast in rose,melo,lee,noah,jennings....

if we stay with the blueprint of making kp the main focus the sky is the limit for this team.... its still way to early but tonight was a good flash of what this group can do on a nightly basis ...

TheGame @ 11/5/2016 12:11 AM
Basically we passed this game instead of playing iso ball. The offense still needs work and Rose really needs to focus on passing (tonight he was good but still took some bad shots). Still not enough consistent ball movement, but tonight was a good start. The defense was much better.

He looked bad at times. So sick of the I have to get the points back mentality. He has non d league teammates now, guys that were actually drafted, and not the top candidates for amnesty in the cba. Hopefully it is an adjustment to playing with talent. This is the most talented team he has been on as a Knick in my opinion.

If the team plays as a team KP is a tremendous weapon. He takes the shots the offense gives him. With Jennings and Rose putting so much pressure on the defense at times KP should be in a position to be an offensive center piece. Rose never bogged down tonight and for most of the game the pace was pushed. Melo did bog down a bit and did a lot of dribbling. I am hoping he just isn't used to playing with teammates this talented. Nothing has touched this team on paper talent wise since he has been in ny. He played well with KP last year. He should adjust.
I loved Jeff's adjustment with his rotation. Rose, KP or Melo was always on the floor. Not the case with Houston. Also, these guys played some d tonight.
Knixkik @ 11/5/2016 9:39 AM
We have to be happy with a 2-3 record. We have played 5 good teams. And seems like adjustments are being made and things are getting figured out. Now we finally get to play some teams we need to beat.

Agreed. Play smart ball and take what the D is giving you. One thing I noticed from rose which was fairly effective is there were times he would penetrate and if he didn't have he shot he dribbled out The D had collapsed on him and by dribbling out he had open shooters and the Bulls were scrambling to close out

While not classic drive and dish, it was still effective

Punish the mismatches. Punish the mistakes and you have won half the battle

newyorknewyork @ 11/5/2016 12:15 PM
Feed Noah and KP. When Noah is engaged he impacts the game all over the court and KP can score anywhere on the court.

*if* kp6 is the one who has the greatest number of mismatches in his favor then he has to get the ball in mismatch situations. that was the point of coach's postgame after the blowout. and *since* kp6 is the one knick who *will* have the most mismatches, it stands to reason that he *will* get the ball more often than others on the team. then the issue will be how efficient he is. if his TS% is a mediocre 55-56% then he will need to either be a better playmaker or find ways to score better.

in five games this season, even being ignored, he is at 59%TS which is unequivocally elite. he therefore deserves to get a higher usage rate, and that usage should be sacrificed by derrick rose, who needs to start looking for kp6 more than he has.

the shortest path to the knicks winning and success is for kp6 to have a higher usage rate than derrick rose and a higher number of shot attempts as well. he obviously does not need coddling or to be brought along slowly.

Completely agree. Rose will have plenty of opportunities to create for himself but the first option needs to be running offense thru porzingis.
