Knicks · Time to put KP in second unit. (page 1)

HofstraBBall @ 11/8/2016 3:28 PM
Tired of seeing the second unit falter. The first unit has Lee, Melo and Rose to take up most of offensive responsibility. We can put a better defensive 3 to help with guarding the perimeter. Move Melo to power 4 where he will be quicker than most 4's. KP can be main option in second unit and he works well with Jennings. He would not be overpowered by second string centers as much. Seems like it would work or better yet, worth a try. We can always end with Melo, KP, Rose, Lee and Noah in crunch time.
crzymdups @ 11/8/2016 3:34 PM
No. No, it is not.
Vmart @ 11/8/2016 3:44 PM
If you recall the Jazz made their run when Melo/KP/Rose were on the bench.
dk7th @ 11/8/2016 4:19 PM
that's a straight up laughably ignint notion. i have a much better thread idea: "Time to put rose in the second unit."

dude you don't like anyone who takes more than 14 shots pg..lol

Which means you would put, KD, westbrook, lillard, Kyrie, curry, paul George, all on your bench

well what do you think of opie's notion?

Knixkik @ 11/8/2016 5:17 PM
Please lock this thread. This is the type of move that would ruin this franchise. Mess with the best thing that has happened to this franchise in 30 years, great idea. Would solidify us as the worst franchise in the history of sports.
EnySpree @ 11/8/2016 5:40 PM
I just wanna know who's the better defensive 3? The poor defense is not because of Melo. He's been decent enough to stop talking about it. As a team the knicks aren't picking up their defensive assignments on the perimeter.

Have you watched the games? It's such a crazy notion that Hornacek has been doing just what I'm suggesting. He has sat KP out early in 1st and brought him back with second unit in the second.

Yawn....with the Rose thing. You must have turrets. Rose in second unit doesn't solve our speed issue defensively. KP too slow to cover stretch 4's and Melo too slow for 3'.

True. JH was not able to put KP back in with second unit due to foul trouble.

yellowboy90 @ 11/8/2016 6:43 PM
Time to put KP in the second unit to start the second qtrs so they can have a go to option.

I have seen all the games and yes that is fine. I read it as you want to bring KP off the bench. I am all for staggering the rotation, as long as you aren't benching the franchise player. You have your starting 5 and take him out a little early then bring him back in with the second unit. No problem with that. That is what has been happening much of the time already.

Knicks67 @ 11/8/2016 7:25 PM
I think the idea has merit so long as you start Kristaps and stagger the rotation. Hernangomez, Baker and Kuz all have promise in my opinion so you could make a strong second unit up witb Kristaps to build chemistry, especially with Jennings, the potential filled Hernangomez and Kristaps. I would then take Melo out of the 3 and go to the 4 where he will out speed people there. Perhaps then give Thomas some more consistent minutes to find his shot again (to get out of a slump just keep on shooting) and his D would be gladly welcomed in the starters. As long as Kristaps doesn't lose minutes making him the go to guy of the second unit is smart, prepares him as well for the future of being the number one option.
nixluva @ 11/8/2016 8:42 PM
HELL NO!!! This is about the team improving on D as a unit and finding more chemistry on offense. They simply need more time and work. I see no reason to be making drastic changes at this point.

I dont think the problems with the 2nd unit are fixable, not enough talent

Concur. Just seems to get the ball a lot more with second unit. And again, Jennings seems to favor pass on PnR.

Time is good. And no one is saying close down MSG. Just give the second unit a go to guy. Until we pick up a replacement. Just don't think current bench is going to improve its +/-. Specially with KO and LT inconsistent play. And if you want time for young guys to develop, than don't complain when they give up leads and we lose games. Btw. You can still put your best closers out there in crunch time.

blkexec @ 11/9/2016 1:29 AM
Why not take Melo out early....keep him fresh for the playoffs....it gives the 2nd unit a boast when he comes back in. He's getting older.. keeps him fresh.
sidneydeane @ 11/9/2016 6:15 AM
We need to make a move or two. To many rookies on our roster. Seriously-kuz, willy, baker, plumlee, ndour... thats ridiculous. Got to keep the euros and whilst i wouldnt mind seeing what baker has to offer him plumlee ndour and O'Quinn for that matter are all tradable/waiveable. Need a couple reliable vets.
franco12 @ 11/9/2016 8:48 AM
I think part might be not so much putting KP to the 2nd unit as far as not having him at the four and melo at the 3.

Maybe we would have been better off without Noah and spending the money elsewhere on the roster.
