Knicks · A few things about game and Jennings (page 1)
Carmelo saved the team last night in the 2nd quarter. NJ ran out of gas of what was looking like a season changing loss.
I really think KUz and especially Willy need more minutes and be fully established in unit 2.
Simple economics fellas, you're not paying Rose to be a SMOTY, and if you really want to mess with his already effed up head, have him sitting behind a feel-good reclamation story. Might as well trade his azz now for somebody's first round pick and be done with it.
This is like all the stupid talk we heard earlier about getting Noah to start the season on the bench. We have the best starting five we've seen here since the '90's; enough already. It's going to break down soon enough without trying to play tinker toys with the lineups. Get Willy and Kuz some more burn at the expense of Lance I Got Paid and KOQ.
Jennings is exactly what the second unit needs to get the touches they need to get comfortable here.

Melo and Rose needs attempts to impact the game. Playing either of them with the second unit will give them the green light. Rose will get you those Marbury assists. Jennings get you momentum swinging assists.

It's never going to happen, like i said. The starting lineup is fine the way it is. Just saying the skillsets fit better in opposite roles. But we can always stagger rotations as we please. Rose will eventually be a great 6th man in a couple of years, if his ego can handle it. Similar to Crawford, where he will have the freedom to take over an offense, and not have to worry about much else. But right now, our lineup is fine.

They will get their attempts no matter what unit they play with. Unfortunately, this is not just a sport, it's a business. Huge dollars and even larger egos to manage. $150 million dollars playing on the second unit. Riiiiight. Why not ask Phil to go park cars when he's not busy?
Rose and Melo on the second unit with a "green light" could shoot us right out of games (shout out to the dk7th ignore list!) and what does that do for the rest of the bench? Allow them valuable time standing around in live games hoping for long rebounds?
Give this starting unit some time. We can be scary good if the health thing holds out, just play some fuhuckin D and the Triangle be dayumned. We for once, have too many legitimate threats.

I'm on board with Rose starting and Jenningd off bench for the season This was only 1 game Rose is the guy. If Jennings can play like this he can come off the bench for Rose and or play with Rose

I'd also like to see Baker get worked in. I love his game and BB IQ. I'm very anxious to see if they can bring in Randle at some point cuz it just adds even more depth at the guard spot.
Will we ever the see the Jennings who once scored 55 in a game?

There's no way this team could be successful this year without having BJ. I tried to tell some of the few doubters that BJ had some good PG skills. I posted some videos of his Pistons days before the Achilles and he was really playing well. So this is no surprise to me that he's being a ball distributor. What has surprised me is his aggressiveness on D. I'm very happy to see that.I'd also like to see Baker get worked in. I love his game and BB IQ. Yeah he always made a lot of sense for us. I expected him to sign here to start, and i'm glad we even got him after acquiring Rose. I can see him being here a long time either as a starter or 6th man.

Rose and Melo needs attempts to be effective. They don't get those attempts with the first unit, because there are a lot of mouths to feed. And fan will jump all over Melo and Rose if they start putting up shots, leaving KP open all the time.
The reason Melo went off was because Rose and KP was on the bench.....So was Lee. Nobody was hitting anything, so Melo took over. Rose can do the same thing, if you sit Melo and input Rose. Both are high volume shooters.
KP is a system player, so the triangle fits his game more than volume scorers. Just trying to clear up my original reply, so that you understand what I'm saying. Because your response was way off. Putting Rose and Melo on the second unit? huh?
The starting unit should and will remain the same.....Nothing will change any time soon. It's the rotations that should and would change.

Completely agree, that is my view on things. Jennings skill-set really fits more with the first unit. While Rose should remain the starter, i think he should have more time with the 2nd unit that lacks offense so he can create for himself and have the freedom to make plays without having to get other involved or run the offense as strict. Jennings, on the other hand, seems to thrive when creating for others and should spend a lot of time with KP and/or Melo.
Nets are rag tag team with retreads getting opportunity. I like the hard work and coaching they are getting.
Fans want to extrapolate the moment. I like what happened in the game because it happened. I was no fluke, the second unit had its moments.
Lance and KoQ were not part of it. If others shine, they will sit. If they shine, others will sit. You give your salaried vets the chance but if others do better, its ok.
That's the due process of how teams evolve.

Jennings was BRUTAL in the 1st half but yes played very nice in 2nd half.
His on ball D for most of the season may be the most pleasant surprise of the season so far --- did not think he could pressure like he has.

In terms of Melo (did he save the team from himself?). I mean he was what 0-6 and 3-10 early in the game and even with his 6-6 in 3rd quarter he was 10-22.
Would prefer about 5 of Melo's shots each game to go to KP/Lee out of real offensive sets.
I was actually happy with Melo play (style) in 1st half despite his bad shooting --- less impressed with ISO Melo in 3rd even with 6-6 because I've seen that mode fail SO MANY times over the years and Melo never knows when enough is enough.
He was option #1,2,3 in his first few years before Butler came along and started to assert himself on offense.
The way he was benched against the Nets and Jennings played so much better is just a 1-game sample. Hornacek is interested in seeing Rose play with that level of intensity on both ends of the floor because he knows that takes pressure of all the starters including himself. If Rose goes to the bench, this puts even more pressure on Rose to perform well each game. Similarly it would add more pressure on Jennings to be THAT point guard each game as opposed to playing with lesser pressure off the bench. That's just not a sound move.
Rose should start and have a short string when it seems like the game could get away from us.
Cartman718 wrote:It's a bit early to bench Rose in favor of Jennings. Rose has about 5 more games to get it. He's never been on a team where on a given night 4 starters could score 20 pts each. Lee/Noah alternating in that 20 pt scorer possibility. Rose Melo KP can each score 20 points easily each night. He was option #1,2,3 in his first few years before Butler came along and started to assert himself on offense.

Like it matters, this is a 35 win team no matter what. They could start Jennings or Rose no one will defend so it doesnt make a difference
