who?
And Rubio is not a younger Calderon. Rubio can beat anyone in the league off the dribble. He's just not much of a finisher and a lousy shooter. He's a very good on the ball defender and very fast.
Also remember he NO PGs signed next year. Rose and Jennings are both FAs
Rose and Wiggins together make sense?
Basically Rose just finished his preseason hypothetically.
OP, I know you know its early but the real trade would be Rubio for Jennings and if you think its not fair, then consider Rubio a bit of a salary dump.
IM not throwing in the easy hypothetical first round pick as a "sweetner". Not ever. 1st round picks are the lifeblood of any organization and if you can draft well and be patient, a team can succeed for years.
If not, just press rewind and look at our history.
Rubio is 26, owed about 29mil AFTER this season. That's not a bad contract. Minny has Tyus jones, Zach Lavine, shabazz Muhammad and Kris Dunn. I don't know much about Minny and what they think of their yoots and upside development. Its not a dumb move to infuse some additional veteran talent on that young team, but my opinion does not matter. At the same time, Derrik Rose will be paid if healthy beyond this year and looking at what Minny is going to have to pay for its core in the future, I don't know if Rose is their guy.
I like Ricky Rubio and his salary is not bad. Does his fit here?
Rubio isn't a good player.
and I was his biggest fan - he's a natural pass first PG. but the bottom line is he cant shoot and hes ALWAYS hurt. we already have noah who isn't an offensive threat, wouldn't be wise to add a 2nd non threat
If we could trade for anyone it should be for a quality veteran big so Noah can go to the bench if he's still struggling as the season goes on.
personally, I'd rather ride it out on Rose like he does with handlebars. If he turns it around - great - but if he doesn't I'm just as happy watching his deal expire

+1
Trade an athletic freak who's possibly in a rebound year who can get to the rim whenever he wants for a ballhawk guy who's shot from anywhere is anemic at best who can get to the rim whenever he wants but everyone knows won't dunk or even make a layup.
Rubio's tried to force himself into being a three point threat and that's just not working out.
Next please.

Never realized how badly Teague gets lit up on defense.
Isn't George Hill 400 years old?
Mills at least can guard the perimeter, decent shooter, not going to make anyone forget Mark Jackson in the assists dept, but definitely a plus if all we are looking for is a salary dump.

Agreed. I would actually do this.
Not sure if Thibs loves DRose or if he'd be wary of injuries... but I think this trade is an interesting idea.

Thibs might not mind a reunion with Rose. Dunn is their future point guard anyway.
Bc Rose is expiring and Rubio has 2 years left.. maybe we get a sweetener like Noah for Petrovic ;-)
Maybe.....but if you are Minny do you really want a ball dominant Rose taking opportunity away from Towns/Wiggins/Levine?
From a Knick perspective I think Rubio would be an improvement though not sure how we survive with Rubio/Noah on floor together and Rubio is NOT a guy who is going to break down the D -- he's NOT as good as I once had hoped he would become.

So nice you said it twice.
Oh, and CP3.

Jrue Holiday too. Maybe his brother can convince him to come.

So Calderon would get in the paint and not even think about shooting and Rubio gets in the paint and can't do anything with it. No thanks on Rubio. Another example of a guy who may look good the two games you see him play every year but on a nightly basis is vastly overrated. Just like Bargnani and the Raptors, the T-Wolves would probably plan a parade if we took Rubio off their hands.

And Clippers picked this season to get off to their best start in history. Not good if anyone was planning for CP3 to opt out.

True, still think it'll be about playoff results in the end. Another early exit and CP3 gonna think long and hard about LAC.
hard to get one's hopes up about FAs. Also we need to potentially resign some of our own guys so looking for a big splash with cap space means you say goodbye to Rose/Holiday/Jennings
I like our current approach. Spread the money. Willy/Kuz/Lance/KOQ.. these are nice managable contracts attached to good players with some upside. I dont expect them all to break out but there is some quality and depth there.
It would be fantastic if Randle eventually makes his way back and shows he can be a legit backup PG in this league. Baker is more a 3&D guy to me... plus we have our draft pick and hopefully land a decent prospect there.
Time will tell.
PG will likely come in the draft but to add to the FA PG list, Lowry could opt out and become a FA this summer
