Knicks · Derek Rose is looking to get his (page 1)

Agreed. I think that's always been his game though. Just doesn't seem like a great fit with Melo and KP.
In today's game, eveyone was off..We needed a spark and he got more aggressive...Melo and KP won't be on every night..One or two guy can't win you rings in this league..Give Rose a chance to figure it out and pick his spots..He needs shots to gain confidence..
holfresh wrote:Also, at some point they will tighten up the defense on KP..Rose stepping up will only help to loosen that defense..
What it comes down to is will we want to sign him long term considering his injury history and questionable fit. Seems unlikely. Jennings will come a little cheaper and is a much better fit with Melo and KP.

Jennings is a terrible player who takes bad shots and is on his best behavior...He loves NY and will do what he needs to do to stick with the team...You have to stop worrying about KP and how many shots he gets...One of the big reasons I love JR is because he wasn't afraid to take the shot...You need players like that next to Melo so he can trust and give up the ball...If KP and Rose are making shots, this can be a different team...Cav's aren't bringing just two guys..Warriors aren't bringing just two guys...Rose took 18 shots when everyone was off..This is former MVP Rose..When he gets his legs he will be a different player..He still isn't finishing yet..It seems like everyone is afraid he will regain his form so they want to limit his shots..

It kept the Knicks close and almost actually pulled a great comeback. This Knicks team keeps showing us another element evey game. We have to be patient. The hope is that these guys finally get this thing clicking consistently. It's still earlyI think last night was a classic example of NBA scheduling. Both teams were tired, home team got the emotional boost fwiw. Knicks are 5-7 with a bunch of tough home games coming up.
As for Rose he needs to be aggressive and score. I dont want to see him forcing bad shots but attacking the paint and the hoop is his game and we need that from him. As our bigs (Noah aside) play with him more and more you will also see putbacks and offensive boards off Rose misses. Its part of what doesnt show up in the advanced stats that tell us everything we need to know about basketball

Jennings takes bad shots but is not a terrible player. He has proven he can creates for others and competes on defense. Rose doesn't do either. His scoring can always be replaced. If he comes back at a low cost, that's fine, but he will want max or close to it off his name alone.
knickstorrents wrote:Rose is a shell of his former self and doesn't look to distribute... so you have a guy hobbled by injuries looking for his own shot but he's just not as good anymore. Jennings seems to have turned things around, seems to play hard on both sides and does a decent job distributing. Rose is a goner, hopefully we don't do anything stupid and just let him go so we can get cap space.
dude, we just had calderone who we were begging to shoot the dam ball. Rose is far from a shell of himself, and he hasn't complain one bit about his health.
He clearly stated in training camp he was use to playing reckless with his body, and that's why he was getting hurt.
I don't want the rose that was dunking over everybody and crossing over every opponent the stood in front of him, that's a lot of pressure on the knees and ankles for any human. Rose still has his speed, and his managing his shot attempts way better. In some games we are going to need him to shoot more, he does have the ability to put up 30.

It's November 18th, I can't see that far ahead to be making a decision on Rose yet...I'll say this tho, If the Knicks are going to make the playoffs, it's going to be about Derrick Rose and his play, not Jennings...
I have been a Knick fan for a very long time..I sat through Ewing not getting any scoring help for over a decade and Melo not getting any help for 5 years..No scoring can't be so easily replaced...

I hope it works out with Rose too, but you can always find scoring in free agency. Finding 2-way players and PGs who can create for others is much more challenging, in my opinion. But this is just more of a long-term projection. Rose is definitely a key to success or failure this year, no question.

+ Effin 1!
If scoring is so effortlessly easy to come by, what the hell happened here? Stat double-doubled his glass knees into the ground before Melo got here. Lin scored for 2 weeks and got scorched and then faded away. Jose C? Aaron Affalo? NBDL all stars?
Ewing and 6 games with BK and then... Pat Cummings. and Mase. And Oak. and Chris Childs. and Charlie Ward. and where-did-he-go?-H20. By the time Spree shows up, it's 5 years too late.
Hopefully, this squad full of offensive threats is not too late for Melo.
Just have to get the D rolling, somehow.

Rose's skillset is better off the bench. It's frustrating watching guys like Ish Smith and JJ Barea picking Rose apart. Would rather have a player like him who can get points off the bench, and have Jennings as a starter, because he keeps the ball moving and competes defensively. He is not a great defender by any means, but his activity level is clear and he's not a liability like Rose. We can easily sign guys like DWill (we had him last year) who can score points in a hurry and get most of what Rose brings. You can find guys who can score 15 points a game with minutes. Marcus Thornton came off the bench for Washington last night and can fill it up quick. I would rather have a few of these guys for cheap off the bench than Rose for 20 mil a year or whatever he will ask for. Rose is an iso scorer, not really ideal for a lineup with Melo and KP. But i also understand that beggars can't be choosers and i appreciate the fact we got a PG as talented as Rose for this year. But i like Jennings better.
SupremeCommander wrote:glad to see a thread on this. Rose reminded me of a damaged version of Stephon Marbury last night and in general. He was definitely looking to get his and definitely strapped handlebars onto this team in the process.
Rose took 8 shots in the first 3 quarters...He started the fourth quarter with the second unit so he was the scorer there...He had 10 shot attempts in the 4th quarter...He stepped up his shot output late in the when we were down 20+ where Melo and KP were clearly bricking it....He actually brought us back in the game a bit...I see no problem with what Rose is doing...

he's the biggest reason we were in the hole to begin with... if Jennings took all his minutes we'd have been better off

So he is the reason Melo and KP sleep walk through the game??..They were spent from the night before..

Rose scored a lot of his points last night when we were down 25 and we were just trading baskets with Washington. He was scoring, but we weren't making up much ground when he went on his run. When Jennings took over is when we got some stops and had the comeback. But i don't really care about socring in those situations. Rose is going to lead us in scoring once in awhile, mostly in losses, for the reasons we saw last night. He will get points, especially when no one else is scoring. He is also one of the reasons we are struggling defensively. The offense flows better and the defense is better with Jennings at the point. I don't think we should start Jennings over Rose because i don't want to ruin his vibe. He needs to know his role is safe. But his skillset is better utilized with the reserves and Jennings is better creating shots for Melo, KP, and even Noah, who will only score off ball movement. Hopefully Hornacek increases Jennings minutes a little so he spends more time with Melo and KP. But we will be a better team next year if Jennings is the starting PG, and we add a couple of volumes scorers off the bench in the summer, guys like Collison, who would be an ideal backup PG, and getting DWill back, who probably won't stay in Miami. This is assuming we don't land a major free agent of course.
