Knicks · More positives about Rose (page 1)

Courtney Lee saw the signs of Derrick Rose’s rejuvenation flickering in the summer. In workouts, Lee would be awe-struck as Rose dominated him in workouts. Lee thought he was athletic, but he could not keep up.

Justin Holiday sees it in the way Rose reacts the day after games. No longer hobbled by nagging injuries or the minutes he played the night before, Rose looks fresh and unencumbered, Holiday says.

Hornacek said he believes that Rose has shown more athleticism this season than he did during his last injury-marred season with the Bulls. Last season, Hornacek said, he believed his guards in Phoenix were quicker and more explosive than Rose — once one of the N.B.A.’s most astounding athletes.

I have liked what I have seen from him lately. I still don't think he will ever be close to 2011-12 Rose but I give him credit for showing his speed and finishing at the rim very well this year. Also his passing has been good

I agree. I listened to a lot of podcasts over the summer and one of the big concerns brought up about Rose was the significant drop off in his play on the second night of a back to back. Holiday's quote is encouraging.

remember its a long season and its still early. he has had major injuries so that definetly cannot be forgotten. Obviously I'm hoping he stays healthy the rest of the way.

according to the advanced stats Rose is still the worst in the league and we should all be wishing Jose was still running the ship. Not sure what you guys are seeing... oh wait, the games maybe?

was thinking the same exact thing. where exactly is dk now? i don't care what advanced bullshit stats say, rose is playing great and he's completely changed the dynamic of this team on the offensive side of the ball

holfresh @ 11/23/2016 9:37 AM
Rose needs to commended with his approach to the team..He is trying to fit in and figure out when to go and when to hold back..Breen stated a stat last night that could have been misinterpreted about Rose..He said the Knicks are 0-6 when Rose scored over 15 points...Most of the games where Rose score lots of points is a result of the team being blown out then he tried to shoot them back in it...This happened against Washington where he scored 27 point..It's a blessing to have Rose because it opens up the floor for everyone else on offense..A pleasant surprise the last couple of games has been his defense...His defense against Liliard and Schroder was just excellent...

He looks like he really wants to fit in...

I really don't want the 2011-12 rose, that's not the player that wins championships, that's the player that win individual awards, the westbrook type.

We are definitely close to having a BIG 3 with melo,kp, and rose..

I don't think he is going back to being that guy. He talked about being at a different stage in his career, being more mature etc. last night. The positives regarding his health is that guys are talking about how he has his quickness back and that he is recovering and not hobbled the day after a game like he had been in the past.

Rapist Rose who always plays the wrong way and ennings who always shoots first. WTF was Phil thinking???

And I still think we should trade Melo to a contender, for his own good.

Phil will start dropping N-words to get melo to accept a trade to Miami. Posse is not strong enough!
Somehow Melo in our future never works for our winning fantasy. It has to be some abstract starphuch draft pick anomaly.

Unicorns don't grow on trees!

The exciting part is that he's essentially only played for a month, so essentially he's just finished his preseason. Hopefully now at the end of games, teams will have no idea if we're going with rose, melo or KP

I love what I see from Rose but I think his passing and shooting have been below average. Way below

his shooting is terrible no doubt about it. His passing is good in spurts. Sometimes he makes tremdous passes but other times he is out of control and turns it over
nixluva @ 11/23/2016 6:24 PM
Rose will improve his shooting and passing as he gains more comfort with his new teammates and this style. Jeff has done a smart thing by letting Rose be Rose at certain times like the 4th qtr. this is what Phil used to do in 4th qtrs with MJ. You move away from the Triangle and go more with clear outs and PnR. Let 🌹 talent take over.

The real sign of Rose's conditioning is his defense! You can clearly see his lateral quickness is back. He's able to stay with elite guards much better this year!!!

Jennings has made some tremendous passes; for me Rose has barely made an NBA PG capable pass and he's missed a ton of wide open guys and turned the ball over unforced with his jumping

I am far from sold on Rose. Cant deny his ability to score and get to the rim, and in turns the impact those two things have. Floor vision floor general type? Have not seen that at all. I do see him playing well off the ball. They run a lot of sets where Melo, Lee, Noah... someone besides Rose initiates the offense. Watching Rose away from the ball he's very active.

Right now we see the positives of having another scorer on the floor, and Rose's defense has been reasonable (dare I say decent?). I do think we can get a lot more basic drive and dish type BB from Rose, and I think as he's used to playing with these guys more and more you will see much more of that.

I think the main thing is he's very tentative with his passing right now and there is an obvious reason for it. He cant afford to have turnovers. He cant afford to throw the ball away if he and so and so arent on the same page. Only reps will fix that and I 100% expect to see that assist number be around 7-8 on a nightly basis.

Most of the Knick offense is iso or two man game with some triangle cuts etc, but its keep it simple and take care of the ball. Usually its one pass before the score. Last few games we are starting to see 2 passes before the score and thats a big step. Pretty soon it will be 3 passes and you will see guys getting better and better shots.

I REALLY like the Jennings/Rose/Kuz/Melo/KP line up. Rose plays off the ball, Jennings has Kuz and Rose to push the ball to and Melo/KP/Kuz beautifully space the floor for when Rose/Jennings drive.

Anyway I think Wally nailed it... which is all that matters is Rose's legs right now and damn they look like springs!

Health is there
Chemistry is building
Effort and lead by example are there
Really dumped on for being a terrible defender and he hasnt been
Big part of ALL our guards playing Liliard/McCollum to a stand still

I do think if he stays healthy like this we end up being a 50 win team. If we get 75 games with these legs from Rose we are an easy 50 win team. We have young guys, good bigs, a handful of good defenders and all star play from Melo/KP so Rose can really be the 3rd scoring option and thats fantastic. If he's got no legs you just see tons of contested shots in traffic because he can still beat his guy off the dribble but cant elevate and finish. The beautiful thing is with KP emerging as an all star Rose really can be the 3rd option and thats an amazing role for him. You saw last night how devastating he can be when he's being guarded as the 3rd option. Everyone expected Iso Melo or a play for KP. They swarm KP, put their best m2m on Melo and all of the sudden Derrick Rose is simply torching you and getting to the rim. This is how its supposed to work. Lets see it its sustainable. Fingers crossed baby! This is getting fun Like Nixluva with orange and blue face paint at 4:20pm kinda fun.

martin @ 11/23/2016 7:30 PM
^ yeah good stuff fish.

Rose is averaging right around 31 minutes a game and I think that's perfect for his long term health. Here's to hoping he stays healthy and finds his push shot, if he does it's over for opponents.

Oh, and I think his effort and execution on D has been above average, in a good way. I like it.
