Knicks · Feels great to have a franchise superstar (page 1)

StarksEwing1 @ 11/23/2016 8:42 AM
I feel like its been years since we had a legit superstar like KP is becoming. Probably since the time Ewing was here. The scary thing is that he still hasn't reached his ceiling and is already putting up over 30 pts against good teams. For the first time in over a decade I'm very confident in the future of this team mostly because we have KP
BigRedDog @ 11/23/2016 9:55 AM
Not only KP but he is surrounded by elite talent. Rose is dusting off his cobwebs to become a star again and Melo for all his warts or imperfections is a star too.

This. And it is nice when you have guys that allow you to manipulate the match ups. Harkless matches up and plays Melo very well. No one on the Blazers matches up well with KP. KP was awesome. Melo was amazing against the Hawks. It is a team game and this team seems to be figuring out how to use the talent they have on a night to night basis.
Saw a stat that said KP is shooting 50% from 2 and 39 % from three. Amazing numbers for any player but unreal numbers for a guy that is 7'3. Found it:

He's just incredible. And the supporting cast's fit around him is really starting to grow on me. Melo looks like he will gracefully ease into a good 2nd option, Rose is transitioning into 3rd option/role player well, and Jennings off the bench is developing great chemistry with Porzingis. He will be able to continue to grow with Willy too, who he has chemistry with already, and this year's draft pick. When the draft comes, i will be very excited knowing we actually have 3 draft picks, and already have a franchise player who is only 21 years old we are drafting players to build around him. There is no longer a question about the direction of this team, and that is a great feeling.

Who matches up with him? How many 7 footers have the ability to guard him on the parameter? If you do, you take that 7footer off the boards or his shot blocking!!!
KP thus makes others better!!!!

Feels great to be .500. Hawks are second best team in the east. Charlotte is third! Tonite they get the Spurs (11-3) in charlotte, then back to backs with Knicks.
I want to see knicks win on the 2nd of the back to back. I'll be 9th row for the game in charlotte.

What about the Cavs and the Raptors? You sure about your math? Anyway, both of those teams are solid, and beating them is/will be a sign of growth for the Knicks. I'm envious of your 9th row seats for Knicks-Charlotte game. That will be SO much fun. Hope you have other Knicks fans in that section.

Not willing to call him a 'superstar" at this moment, but yup...he's our best chance for a
homegrown superstar since Ewing.

I'm going to estimate that he's at about 35-45% of what he can become down the road.

I'm looking at a need for more strength (which will come by work, or simple maturation), defensive awareness/technique (coachable skills), a polished McHale/Duncan <7ft post up game, and a consistent hook shot. He also needs to be more consistent in squaring up to the basket...most of his uglier 3's happen because he's not squared up properly-something readily seen if you have the right camera angle when he shoots.

I really hope he takes Dirk's offer and works out with him next off-season. I would also love to get him together with McHale, or Hakeem, if available. Doing any of this along with Hernangomez would be another plus, since they look like our future front line for many years to come.

Best thing I've seen so far this season is that for the most part, he does his scoring without forcing things. He's had some of those overdribbling moments, but much of his scoring comes within the flow of the offense, and when he has PGs looking for him he is even more effective. He seems to have a better understanding of how to get free/put himself in position to score without having the ball, which allows him to accumulate points without seeming to dominate with the ball.

Just hope he continues to improve on what he's done so far.

Yeah, I mean seriously, WTF has happened here in the last 6 years before KP? Win the division, win 50+ games with a bunch of geriatric retirees and one-year freaks? Scoring champion, 62 point game at MSG? Drag a bunch of losers to the second round of the playoffs?

Yeah, I can really feel your feelings...absolutely nothing...I mean, has anything happened here since Ewing?

Oh yeah, that's right! There was Linsanity!

And to think some of us wanted OK4 and Russell (and Mudiay) over him! The first highlights of KP I saw (the euro league ones) I didn't like him at all. Then there was that video when he first came to NYC, then the Vegas workout and that made me take note

I'll admit i wanted Winslow and to a lesser extent Mudiay over him (assuming Towns, Russell, and OK4 went 1-3). I was very against WCS and Kaminsky. But would have selected Winslow or Mudiay over KP and i am glad i was very wrong. I thought KP might be a solid player, sort of like what we wanted and expected from Bargnani, but still didn't want to deal with that type of player considering how salty we were from the Bargnani experiment.

Ha, I'd forgotten about Winslow- I think I was torn between him, Mudiay and KP

I am glad the Knicks went with KP but I remember really liking Okafor and Mudiay. I thought Mudiay had some Jason Kidd like qualities.

Nalod was joyful when we made the pick. Mundiay reminded me of Pearl Washington and Russell reminds me of Kevin Johnson.

Oka4 came off a championship run. I though Phil was not that sold on him given his defense. I think he'll be a very good player. Russell and Mundiay are too young to really evaluate. Towns is awesome but KP was the unknown with a higher ceiling.

Its all good.

Thank God Phil had Gaines go and take a real look at KP cuz none of us really had that kind of exposure to KP. Even after that it was thought that it would take longer for KP to develop and this has been amazing how fast he has grown since the draft. None of the pre-draft stuff matters at this point. It all worked out and I believe we're all happy that it did. Knicks haven't had many breaks the last decade or more.

looking back on it the only other guy i would have been happy about was Towns obviously who is also a beast. Being a bit of a unknown might have helped KP slide to us because i do know the lakers were very interested but thought russell was a safer pick. This is why i HARP on keeping draft picks. Sure they dont all work out but the more picks you have the easier it is to get good young talent for cheap
Cartman718 @ 11/25/2016 2:22 AM
here's the best part about picking kp...by picking willy as well, we have a front court that will play for the knicks for many years to go and already has established chemistry from pre-nba days.

I didn't make it the whole 40. I do want to listen to his podcast with Kevin Pelton though.

Phil has done a solid job with adding picks and keeping the future picks. He's made some savvy moves like Willy and bringing in UDFA's. Overall I like what they've have done. Not everything works out as you say but KP was a huge success and I wish him only the best in his career in NY. I really hope to see KP and this team in the Playoffs. That would be freaking awesome. They've got a lot more work to do!
