Knicks · Mike Conley Out Indefinitely With Fracture In Vertebrae (page 1)

Mike Conley has suffered a transverse process fracture in the vertebrae and will be out indefinitely.

Conley signed a new five-year, $153 million deal with the Memphis Grizzlies in the offseason.

Conley was averaging 19.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game for the Grizzlies to begin the 16-17 season with a career high PER of 23.7.

Conley was limited to 56 games in 15-16 due to an Achilles injury.

Supposedly they're looking at Norris Cole as a replacement (per Hoopshype rumors). Also hearing they're holding some tryouts -- Kendall Marshall, Will Bynum, Toney Douglas...Big payroll--I think they definitely want to win now. Are any of those guys good enough? I see opportunity here for Phil to pick up the phone. I wonder if they'd be interested in someone like Jennings. I know Jennings has been pretty good for us -- good defense, good passer, chemistry with KP, etc., but there's also things about him I don't care for (he's a complainer, a big-time hothead and he still can't shoot). How 'bout Jennings/Ndour, Jennings/Kuzminskas or Jennings/Hernangomez (or O'Quinn?) for JaMychal Green/Deyonta Davis/cash? We then either give the backup PG spot to Baker, sign/promote Randle or sign Spencer Dinwiddie.

Jennings gives them a starting caliber PG to keep rolling with and I'd give them a choice of Ndour, Kuz or Willy to replace Green/Davis with. I might even give them 2 out of those 3 -- Ndour + either Kuz or Willy. For us, Green would be an upgrade over Kuz or Ndour as a scoring threat (I think he'd help in the rebounding category, as a defender at the 3/4 and he's a legit post-up threat -- real good all-around player actually), and Davis could be the big/young/athletic/mobile/defensive/rebounding big we slot in next to KP for the next 15 years. I think he complements KP perfectly. It's a restructure on the fly that I think helps us. Green/Davis really helps boost the frontline on both ends and on the glass. A trade that helps us out now as well as a good trade for the future.

They are not trading Willy for two players like that and they cannot trade Jennings unless he gives the green light because he is on a one year deal and has veto power

Jennings veto power only applies to players who signed one year deals with a previous employer..So that provision doesn't exist for Jennings..I think..

THats great. The better he gets, the more value he has both as an on court asset, and as a tradable asset.
I don't want KP to feel bad by moving him, but an offer one can't refuse should never be discarded.

I don't know what Willy's upside really is. Louis Scoloa? Marc gasol? Tyler Hansbrough? I don't know.

For the contract that Willy is on, and his relationship with KP, he has to be nearly untouchable. You don't trade the best friend of your franchise player, who also happens to be really good and is a nice fit next to KP.

You need some dedicated "goons" who can cover the necessary charges and physical play.

I don't recall Michael Jordan ever taking a charge.
