Knicks · After years of suffering with PG's who don't penetrate (page 1)

We now have pg's that are brutal from from the perimeter...We just can't win.
Isn't Chris paul a FA next season?

I read you man. Rose is terrific at penetration to the hoop. Unfortunetly the other things like defense passing shooting and high IQ are not his strengths. He has still has had a pretty good year but i want more of a traditional point guard
Knixkik@ 12/28/2016 10:42 PM
There's only a few pg's in the entire league who are great at both. That's just the way it is.
nixluva@ 12/28/2016 10:45 PM
I'm MUCH happier with what we have now. They aren't playing great at this moment but they still have much better talent and we've gotta hope that they can pick up their play again and we start winning some games. I'm also PRAYING that Phil adds Randle to the mix. He's actually also a scoring PG but the guy can SHOOT. That would add a dimension to this team we lack.

its tough to put that much pressure on randle. Its a major jump and who knows if he can adjust

I'm not expecting him to take over. Randle would be phased in like any young player but he's got a pedigree of being a team leader and scoring leader for his team. He's not scared in any way. I think you're not quite aware of who he is as a player.

lol. knicks cant afford the max contract cp3 will be asking for. plus not sure its wise to pay him that much at age 32 #dolan move

Rose ran out of gas...He hasn't been asked to be the focus of the team in about three years...I like the fact of his game is maturing...He is picking his spots...He needs three point shooters on the floor to trust..I really think Jennings on the floor hurts him because the lane get congested when he penetrates...He needs options when he gets into the lane..Coaches has to remind him he has to look at his options as well...These things takes time..
Chandler@ 12/29/2016 7:44 AM
I am very happy w Rose. It is incorrect to say he has low BB IQ.
My main concern is his health. If team docs to think he's healthy I suspect we'll offer him max money
His shot can improve and hopefully Jeff can help w that. To my eyes his first priority should be getting more arc on his shots.
Also when/if Lee and even KP starts shooting more we'll worry less about Roses jumper. His drives and floaters are what we need and his ability to penetrate creates opportunities for teammates
franco12@ 12/29/2016 9:46 AM
Langston Galloway anyone?

Your not going to win consistently with a scoring pg and no other facilitator. I like Rose's game, but he can't score without a ISO. I mean Marbury passed more than him. Rose can easily avg 8 to 10 assist with his penetration.
Jennings likes to pass, but his shot selection is still shady as hell

ISO is he hardest way to score in the NBA..You can't extrapolate anything off one game...Melo and Lee were out..He had to score...We see him picking his spots in the past..
The starting offense doesn't need a big time facilitator...They get in the way like Jennings...Melo should be running much more pick and roles with everyone..I don't understand why this isn't a staple of the offense...Melo passes well out of the pick and roll and you never see it..Melo and Rose can take turns run the offense but for some reason it's not happening...
Knicks are giving up 108 points per game..That's why they don't win more games...

Do you have examples in mind for your statement? Rose and the Bulls won pretty consistently Lowry and Raptors are doing pretty well Allen Iverson and Sixers won pretty consistently Who is the other facilitator on the Celts -- I. Thomas is the primary scorer
I think Rose is not going out there looking to score (unlike Melo for example) I think he is trying to read the game, and exploit advantages I also think his game and the Knick will continue to improve with more experience. Lastly, i think Hornacek realizes the benefit of another facilitator and that's why he's using Jennings in tandem
Im happy with Rose, and I'm happy with his driving rather than jumpers. It disrupts the defense. I'd be even more happy if he put more arc on his shot and improved his jumper

If your a PG and your not avg at least 5 to 6 assist per, then your not really a true pg, your just a pg because of your height.
when was the last time a scoring pg won a championship, how about neverary. IM happy with rose as well, but that'S only because we haven't had a decent pg since KIDD, and he avg less than 10 shots per game.
I like the pg tandem we have, but clearly were missing that floor general

They can't defend ball movement because they have no way of practicing that with a bunch of ISO players to practice against..
It's similar to the comment Lee said about defending the triangle in practice when no team is primarily running it.
Just look the teams who have beaten us, (aside from ATl) teams just move the ball and play fast

All things considered, pace has something to do with point totals as well but Woodson's teams were going ISO and holding teams to a average 97.5 points per game for two full seasons...They found a way...
Saying we don't practice it is a cop out..What offense are they playing against in practice when no one defends the three point line?
Jmpasq@ 12/29/2016 9:15 PM
They wont make the playoffs this year with these pgs so it doesnt even matter. Im convinced we will always suck. Its an embarrasment that ghis roster is teetering on notmaking it, something is fundamentally wrong

No team with carmelo is getting anywhere near being a contender unless you consider being a 4 seed a contender

This isn't about melo, it's about 2 pg's that we have that are shooting below 30% from 3, and a starting PG who is not a floor general.
This is a 3 ball era, and rose doesn't exactly welcome contact, he avoids it by shooting floaters or reverse layups. As much as he penetrates, he should be averaging 7 to 10 ft's per game(and he shoots 80% from the stripe).
Woodson capitalize on his talent, he simplified his offense, but soon as kidd left and JR got his contract, and they shipped Novak, that switch-on-everything defense was expose, and TYSON chandler was really expose.
