Knicks · move melo to sixth man (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 1/2/2017 9:57 PM
Maybe he has a ntc but the start to mentally get to him one way or another needs to start. Start.

Kp
Kuz
Jennings
Lee
Rose

6 th man melo
Oquinn
Noah
Holiday
We need another guard

One big problem is our owner has no cahones with melo

EnySpree @ 1/2/2017 10:05 PM
Start KP with Kuz, 2 point guards and a role playing shooting guard?

NAH....

Vmart @ 1/2/2017 10:47 PM
I was thinking about bringing Melo off the bench. But I would start Kuz, KP Willie with Lee and Rose. It makes sense I think youth movement is more important than catering to over the hill wanna be superstars in Melo and Noah. I'm being hard on Melo but there comes a time when it's time to go another direction who know he might get 6th man award. LeBron will never get one of those just like he won't get one of those NCAA titles.
BRIGGS @ 1/3/2017 5:30 AM
If Hornaceck Jackson and mainly Dolan have some balls we will start the process of moving melo to 6 th man. This is the correct short and long term move that's in the best interests of the team

I don't disagree, but...

I think you'd have a better chance convincing him to agree to a trade to the Clippers. Clippers would probably do it, too. They're desperate.

.

For what? Austin Rivers and Jamal Crawford. They dont have contracts to make it work. They arent trading Blake, he is better than Melo. Its to bad he wont go to Boston we could probably make the contracts work. Boston would have to send us Crowder, Amir Johnson and Jerebko. Likely we would have to send back another Forward . The hilarious thing is when I make this trade in the trade machine both teams get worse Knicks by 5 games Boston by 4. I think the Celtics would be nuts to trade for Melo he will kill their team. He might go to the Lakers but we would have to take back a horrendous contract like Deng. If we have Noah and Deng even if they send us back Brandon Ingram who right now is the worst player in the NBA we have zero chance of being good until those contracts run out

EnySpree @ 1/3/2017 7:31 AM
Melo isn't leaving. I don't think there's anything that would prompt him to force a trade. Anything is possible though.

Noah is the biggest disappointment. Lance is a close second. The team defense is also something I did not expect with this group.

Moving Melo to the Bench like Memphis did Zach Randolph does make sense, but Melo would never agree to that. The future is now, so we need to operate as such... Noah needs to be traded if that's possible. Whatever the Knicks can get would be fine. It's time to start Hermangomez next to Kristaps. Kuz should start at the 3. Rose and Lee in the backcourt with more Jennings and Holiday minutes.

Since none of this is going to happen this season... the Knicks need to fix what they can. Noah and Lance are the weak links. We need more Kuz and Hernangomez. The defensive scheme needs to change too. I see guys are working hard but they are falling asleep in the paint leaving shooters open. All easily workable situations. Someone needs to act now though. Losing anymore games in this losing streak would be a season killer.

nyknickzingis @ 1/3/2017 8:19 AM
If pushed to 6th man I think Melo would in fact opt to be dealt. However Melo has the Knicks by the balls. He can veto any trade that is in the Knicks favour. The best way is to make it in an amicable way such that Melo himself sees it's time to go. That move is most likely to the Clippers.

Would they still deal Blake for Melo?? I've always found that a tough sell. Blake is younger and an all star. Melo is the better scorer but he is getting less and less effective. I would do this trade without hesitation. Move KP to 5, Noah backup 5. Or move Griffin to a 3rd team and get a younger athletic wing as well as a 1st round pick.

Chandler @ 1/3/2017 8:30 AM
Melo as 6 man makes sense. He can't guard 3s and often shows lack of desire on 4s. Moving him to second unit lets him guard weaker players. It will Improve defense and ball movement on first unit. I would move lee to SF and promote holiday to first unit. Melo could play the 4 spot on second unit

Calibrate expectations on trades. When he was better and a free agent he didn't get half of the interest he expected.

And of course I don't think this will ever happen

fishmike @ 1/3/2017 9:32 AM
Melo as 6th man would be fantastic. Hard to imagine him signing off on that
Bonn1997 @ 1/3/2017 9:33 AM
This would drive down his trade value. I'd do it only if he refuses a trade.
Nalod @ 1/3/2017 9:41 AM
Moving KP to 5 at this stage is premature. It has been written that perhaps he has played more minutes than we should be exposing him to, and to play against guys bigger puts his body at risk.
Big guys need time to thicken and get "Man Strength"!

As for trading Melo, Im OK with that.

Vmart @ 1/3/2017 10:14 AM
I don't understand all this Melo wouldn't sign off on that chatter. If Melo doesn't like it he will remove his NTC. If he doesn't that's his prerogative but he is under contract with the Knicks and getting paid. Who run the organization Phil or Melo. I'm of the belief the Dolan is on board with Phil. Players do what coaches ask of them.
Nalod @ 1/3/2017 1:32 PM
Not sure about demoting Melo to 6th man.
He'll have to deal with likely aspect of NOT being an NBA allstar.

I think KP would be able to handle some minutes at the 5! What hurts him more is trying to protect the rim AND stretch 4's at the 3pt line!!! That's too much to ask. Let him guard the paint and not have to chase guys out to the 3pt line, which is more taxing than some realize!

The same goes for Melo trying to chase 3's. Melo at the 4 should cut down on the running thru screens trying to keep up with smaller 3's. Saves his legs.

This can be only considered after ASB as demoting Melo is not financially acceptable for him and for MSG.
Most likely we will be out of playoffs by then so Melo will come up with some nagging injury and will take of to the beach earlier.
Then Horny and Phil can continue team development without main destruction.
Considering Melo out: Noah, KP, Holiday, Lee, Rose with Jennings, Baker, Kuz, KQ, Hernangomez coming of the bench will the best training/development group to get ready for next year and evaluate what we have for off-season moves.

Melo shooting close to 30's with poor D and bad passing fake all star would never take that if he had pride. 6thg man is smart for the team--would change the whole construction and my bet is it would be a net positive. He still get 26 minutes he just comes in at the 4 spot 6 minutes into the game
Nalod @ 1/3/2017 2:35 PM
4 straight losses is not cool.
Im not ready to throw in the towel on the season.
6th man can make sense. He can finish games if he is hot.
