If he was great in Phoenix and great again in houston he's a great coach
We had him here. Our owner and gm are the ones who are sour. We never have the right person picking the players and our owner has a deluded view of how to win in the nba. He is good at taking daddy's money but not good at being an nba owner
He sucked in Denver and the Lakers.... it's about fit. Houston is a seamless fit for DAntoni style. So was Phoenix. Denver, Knicks and the Lakers were train wrecks.

MDA was always a smart offensive coach. The Knicks and Lakers stupidly didn't support him and PHX and now Houston have supported him and his approach to the game.
Jeff has similar views on the game but Phil has to support him and let him do his own thing.
I'm glad D'Antoni finally got some redemption in Houston. It was sad to see him flounder in NY and then LA, too.
Can't believe the Knicks hired him with the idea of playing the Lebron Express, ShowTime in NY, etc... and they handed him a team with Melo, Amar'e and Tyson. LOL. Sigh. And then our only good season was when Amar'e got injured and Woodson played a spread offense with tons of three point shooters around Melo - not the MDA pace, Melo would never do that, but the style.
Briggs I can't believe you'd say Dolan isn't good at being an NBA owner.
MDA tried give Melo the Harden role. Melo wanted none of it he tried to make Melo a distributor but that's not his style.
Ah, I see we're doing the usual- blast someone while they're here, demand they leave then praise them once they've gone

I could only imagine the drama if Rose played for MDA, THINK MARBURY 2.5
He wasn't a good coach here. He wasn't a good coach for the Lakers. He is in a great situation.
Nash in his prime
Harden playing unbelievably.
Having said that I thought he was a decent guy and glad he's enjoying success.
He's a good coach if he has a MVP level point guard on his team.
If he doesn't have that player, you can give him a ton of other all stars and it will usually be a disaster.
For example when he had the same Nash but wasn't at that level it was a failure. He had all stars like Melo in his prime and failed. He had Kobe, Dwight and Gasol as all stars and failed.
So with an all star or MVP point guard he's very good. Without? Failure.
I think Jeff is a better coach and controls egos better. However this Knicks team lacks a true superstar right now. We need KP to develop ASAP. Melo is on decline but still plays and acts as if he's the same player as 5 years ago.
MDA came here to build his team. Maybe Lebron had indicated he'd play for him. MDA took over Isiah's sloth team of underachievers, walsh came in to build it, and Dolan
got even more stupid. Linsanity was his creation!
On paper, Rockets heading into this season were no way suppose to be this good. Harden is great, and a great fit with MDA.
Lakers he had Bad back dwight, Never right Nash and Kobe, Who I forget if he was injured. MDA came on after major knee surgery and just a handful of games into the season?
Major paycheck in a great market with a team very compelling. I don't blame MDA for that situation, Dwight was in a contract year and it was a no win situation.
Glad he is finding success and perhaps redemption. He is well respected in the league by his peers. Not by knick fans.

I liked MDA as the Knicks coach he and Amare got the Knicks back into the playoffs. Our so called a star player can't do anything but Isolation. So he ran him out of town just as he did to Lin. Two birds with one stone.

The old "Good Riddence" play!!!!!!

Gotta at least acknowledge that he changed the game!!! He's respected by the coaches in this league and only fails when a GM doesn't recognize he's a system coach. Give him what he needs and he'll be successful. It's not good to dismiss what he's PROVEN he can do if you support him.
Also the top player has to buy in. Look at how he's enhanced Harden's game in the same way he did Nash and tried to do with Melo. At some point you should give the guy some credit.
Nash was an allstar before MDA.
But MDA took him to 2x MVP.
Amazing that great coach's can't win with lousy talent!
Good/Great coach's need talent to win with. A great coach takes what he has and enhances it. Phil did that with Jordan/pippen as did with Kobe/Shaq.
When you reverse engineer it its easy to argue, but the fact is Jordan did not have any chips without Phil and neither did Kobe.
MDA WITH in Prime Amare and Nash was wonderful. MDA with Marbury was not. MDA with Lakers did not have a healthy team.
It has to come together.
Lakers lost in the finals when Karl Malone was not 100% and payton lost a step, on top of that team never clicked with the triangle.
MDA had a young team playing well before "The Trade".
It went all down hill after that until Lin came. Lin was great but someone could not handle not having the attention and Lin was gone.
The team with Melo has ONLY done well when he is paired with a veteran lead PG who takes the leadership role. See Billups and Kidd. DRose has the talent but he MUST take over the team and make it his.
There is one constant since MDA. The team has the same issues it had then.

That team was .500 when Melo arrived and was trending down...Amare was already on decline from injuries...Melo had a lot to do with that team making the playoffs that year....
And right after Melo so-called chased him outta town, the Knicks had their best year in a decade...MDA is a good system coach with the right roster. He didn't have the roster that fit his style of play here.

One name Jason Kidd. That was the reason for the great year.
Do people honestly think if the rockets replaced harden with melo they would have the same record?
