It was reported that Rose will start tonight after his unexcused absence from the team in the last game two days ago. It appears the only discipline he will face is an undisclosed amount of money for missing the game. Is this the right decision by the front office? What kind of example does this set for the rest of the team? Even if it was a family emergency and he had to fly back home to Chicago to be with his mother, how do you not have the decency to even text your employer--who is paying you millions of dollars--notifying them of your absence? As a professional, how do you allow your employer to worry about your well-being the entire night during a game and go looking for you? And how is he allowed to come right back without facing either a suspension or demotion from his position? Doesn't that undermine the Head Coach? What kind of a precedent does it set for other players on the team the next time they don't feel like showing up for a game--seeing how the Rose situation was handled? And how about the players who work hard, show up early and stay late trying to get better and improve the team? How does that make them feel? Doesn't that destroy team morale? I don't think this was handled well at all by the Knicks organization.
No leadership.
If Lebron had done this, Phil would at least make a snarky comment.
he should have been both fined and suspended by the team not just fined, i hate to use this but starphucking lol geeez
Doc no pay for no game, and a big fine. Bigly.
Suspension only hurts fans and his team.
What example does it set? Its not like this happens often so there is no reason to set an example as a deterrent.
Most guys take a nite off via "family matters" or "Stomach flu". The guy want awol, and its going to cost him a lot of money.
LIke I said, you can't treat everyone the same or be unyielding.
Its not a good situation, and I can't remember when a player last did this either in NY or elsewhere. Spree would would disappear driving from California to training camp and kinda not show up until he was ready, or with a broken hand.
If you are replaceable, its a big deal.
If Lebron did this, he'd just tell everyone he earned. If you hate phil, you can put words in his mouth.
If you read Phil's books, you will see he is consistant.
The quicker we can get this episode behind us, the quicker he can get traded, if that is even an option at this point.
That is the only reason I am against a suspension.
The coach does not even view Rose as a long term option or he would be sticking with him down the stretch of games.
This whole Rose fiasco is starting to look very familiar to me.
Rose is one Vaseline video away from an all-star career in the Chinese league.
Showcase him to the sixers, hope he has a big game, hope they want to trade for hin

uhhhh... I think relying on the unreliable hurts the team more. I think setting a precedent of a complete lack of accountability hurts the team even more than the aforementioned. Coddling a Rose like he's a baby just gets us more of the same. Our leaders are washed up hasbeens. Suspending Rose is what's fair for the guys that were there. Jennings and Baker should get Handlebars' minutes
You have to feel sorry for Hornacek though- had to put up with Morris after his antics last season, now he has to eat shit with rose too! Hard to hold any sort of authority over the team when you have a player who openly tantrums against you but doesn't get booted off the team
It is a tough situation. From what I have heard/read, Rose is an extremely hard worker and has impressed the Knicks with his work ethic. I don't think he qualifies as a slacker or a guy that loafs or takes advantage of as much as possible. In regards to undermining the head coach, Jeff sets the line up. If he doesn't my guess is he wouldn't stick around. Rose being in uniform is a management decision, Rose starting is Jeff's decision. Just like it has been Jeff's decision to sit him in the fourth quarter.
I don't think Rose handled the situation well at all but I don't know all of the details. Did management not suspend Rose because they want to win? Maybe. Can Hornacek bench him. Yep. Maybe the management and the coaching staff decided that this was the best way to move on from this situation for everyone involved.
Initially I was absolutely 100% behind the idea of him being suspended and frankly never being allowed to wear a Knicks jersey again. I do not believe Rose's excuse of 'family issues' for one second and think he is full of s**t. I think he is a less than desirable presence on our roster and I don't think that he is a good influence on our promising but impressionable young players. All that said I have read a number of good posts on here arguing why we must play him and I have come around to thinking that those opinions are right. We need to make out he is Aok to give ourselves the best chance of trading him and getting rid! Benching him or suspending him is likely not the best idea given the perception it may give other teams and the low ball offers that may ensue. So I'm on board with his involvement if we are looking to get rid asap. Anything else is completely unacceptable.
