Since day one I was excited about adding Marshall Plumlee. I caught some flack from some around here for my being excited to have him but I still feel he's been underused this season. No he's not some super talented player but he does things that no other big man we have does. IMO what he does is underappreciated. I think most don't fully pay attention to what he actually does from a technical standpoint.
For example his defense. I paid special attention to how Plumlee actually plays team D and it's the best on the team by far.
In these series of stills Plumlee not only shutdown Isaiah's penetration but when the ball is swung he recovers to Crowder at the 3pt line. NONE of our other bigs do this effectively.

This series of still is a great example of Plumlee's activity and defensive prowess. He once again shuts down Isaiah's drive and then recovers to block Crowder at the rim. Plumlee does this kind of thing all game!!!

Back when we got Plumlee I had guys try to tell me he was a stiff and they didn't believe me when I said he could really move on D and was a solid signing. Jeff and the coaches MUST see what I see and I hope they give this kid more minutes cuz he is the best defensive Big we have and he makes this team's defense EXPONENTIALLY better.
His screen setting is fantastic as well. With Rose and Melo you need a good screen setter like that. It allows Rose to just go straight at the basket with a big chasing him and for Melo it opens up wide open jumpshots.
His energy and ability to do what he does should make him part of a 3 man Center rotation moving forward. I'd use KP as starter and bring in Plumlee, then Willy. Give teams different looks. If Willy or Plumlee is playing real well, I'd bring back KP at 4, and let Melo rest. If we have speed at 3, 2 and 1 we won't have a problem with using KP at 4.
Worst case you are developing someone that should be back for cheap next year.
It also begs the question since Noah is untradable in my book unless you want garbage back, would it make sense now to move O'Quinn while his value is sky high. Move O'Quinn for another guard or athletic wing. Would allow Knicks to still be 4 deep at the C spot with KP/Willy/Plumlee/Noah.
O'Quinn has played really well, but if we can cash in with his value high and get some more help on the perimeter that would be great.

Yeah KOQ's trade value has to be at it's peak right about now. He's the one to move IMO. We have cheaper, younger and IMO better options that need to play.
Yeah and I love how O'Quinn has improved his conditioning (lost weight) and improved his game. He's a keeper if we don't have Melo. The real problem is Noah's untradable contract and Melo's NTC. Melo's NTC means we have to keep him, and that means he must start at 4, It's his most effecient position. This means KP must play 5. KP's fine as a 4 he is learning the position, rebounds well and can defend. He's still learning NBA defenses. If no Melo, I'd have full faith in KP turning into a great two way 4. However with Melo, you have to think about what's best for the team and that's KP at 5 with Melo at the 4. KP loses a little playing time this way, but it's the right move for the team. With that in mind, you have too many players at 5 who need minutes. Even if you bring KP back in at 4 when Melo sits, you still need to get more playing time for some of our bigs. That's why a trade is almost neccessary here.
It's great that we have some trade assets this year versus last year. Last year we literally had nothing of value outside of KP and Melo. This year I think Phil can make a trade before deadline if he wants. So long as Phil keeps the 2017 draft pick, KP, rooks like Kuz/Plumlee/Baker/Willy. I'm ok with a trade to get some more depth and talent on the perimeter.
That's why I keep saying Noah and KP makes us have the worse perimeter/pnR defense in the league. they get so locked in on the penetrator, they completely forget about kick out..
"I think they probably heard Marshall calling out (defensive assignments) in New York," Hornacek said. "He screams them out there. That's infectious. If you get one or two guys doing that then everyone seems to step up."
KP doesn't talk at all on defense, neither does melo

How do you get that most don't pay enough attention to what he does from a technical standpoint?? Have we talked about him a lot on here for you to come up with that? Has he played a lot for anyone to really watch enough tape on him as a Knick?? I remember most of us liking the grit the kid would bring us when we first got him, i know i did.

KP needs to learn from Plumlee just what he needs to do defensively! The way you have to move and anticipate where to go and follow the ball but keep your head on a swivel. Plumlee does all of that.

If you saw the exact things he did why are you taking offense? I can tell you that there were people making fun of Plumlee and basically calling him a bum back when we got him. You got an issue with my posting that's fine but unless you disagree there's no need to take what I write as a PERSONAL affront to you nor to have to assume everyone saw all the details of how Plumlee moves on D compared to our other big men.
My issue is you saying most on here didn't like the kid or whatever. Most means a lot of us not some. I just don't like "i told you so" threads is all. The kid has a ton of work to do and i don't think he'll be getting consistent minutes because of what he did last night against centers like A.Johnson and Mickey. If you look in the threads that were linked on here you'll see that i've been a fan of the kid but i'm not gonna start an "i told you so" thread after he plays well in A game. I do also realize that some were making fun of the kid but those are the guys that hate on everything Knicks no matter what we're talking about. Don't take offense to what i'm saying.

First off way to overreact to a sentence. The main thrust of this thread isn't the "I Told You So" part!! You chose to focus on that which is your own personal hang up with me.
2nd I said "I think most don't fully pay attention to what he actually does from a technical standpoint."
From there I did the Still breakdown of what he was doing and how none of our other bigs defend like that! This is more than an I told you so. I was trying to provide more than just an I like how he hustles post!!! You don't have to like my posting style but don't crap on it either, when I'm trying to add a bit more depth to my posts and contribute to the forum.
i was at game tonight v wizards with pretty good seats. plumlee is THE ONLY ONE who talks on defense.

KO? I thought KO, Plum and Noah were the talkers
Funny, I listened to the whole game and the only thing Plumlee/defensively related had to do with Wall hitting shots in his face.
Liked his hustle though. Just wished he would have been able to throw one of those Wall j's into the seat next to you, arnst.
