Knicks · Reality check: no one wants melo (page 2)

Not a single NBA coach who has had him likes him. Boeheim is the only coach I know he has, and the reason is obvious
Why are we so hypnotized by him? It's nuts
He's talented but cmon. Let's wake up
AND ASK YOURSELF THIS, when was the last time we had a star player this loyal (since ewing) to the fans even after 3 horrible season.. Hell kd left OKC despite going to the wcf, Aldridge left the blazer despite making it to the playoffs damn near every season, harden left okc for more $.
Melo is dealing with all kinda of drama form phil and he's been a damn good soldier through it all. Out side of MDA, and dumb ass George Karl (who no player likes) he as tried to adapt..
Some off you just don't get it, until it's gone

Knicks fans will never get it. All Knicks fans can ever do is hate, it's just the way it is.
Knixkik wrote:Melo has definitely lost a step, and he's not elite anymore. Most guys turning 33 are not. But he can still play. For those who think no one wants him, they are kidding themselves. Every team can use a dangerous scorer, especially if they have other players who can lead the team and slightly decrease his role and usage. Whenever KP is ready to become the focal point of the offense, Melo will look better as a secondary scorer. We are already seeing a more efficient player now that he's at the 4. When he becomes the #2 guy on this team, he will be much more valuable.
^^i agree with this assessment. We just need to use him (and treat him) consistent with the above.
I can't see anyone giving us max back (even if he waived). In the beginning of the season he got all pouty-faced for being ranked merely 15th in the league. To my eyes, that's generous
and for the record, I don't hate melo. I am frustrated by him (because i wanted and expected more) and i think this sentiment has been shared by essentially every coach and GM he has had.

I'm not so sure. Yes, it would be a step back this season. But the result of that would be to IMPROVE our lottery position in this summer's draft, which would be "addition by subtraction". If we could swing a mid-first rounder for Melo, maybe trade Noah for Crabbe (as BRIGGS suggested in another thread) and then NOT resign Rose, we could be in a much better place in 2 years then we would otherwise (i.e., waiting for Melo's deal to expire).

I would like to keep Rose at the right price. The only fair price for Melo is a 3 way trade--for instance trading Melo to LAC for Griffin who goes to Phlly and we get 1 of their high lottery picks and some ending contracts.

So would I, but it's not likely in the cards. Rose is playing his me-first scoring game with reckless abandon, and doing it pretty darn well. He's obviously upping his contract prospects to get paid. Don't want the NYK doing the paying as again it's no longer a win-now model for building this team. And Rose adds nothing to the chemistry of our yoots.

Rose if he stays healthy can be used either 1-2 or 6th man--depends on offseason. So he might be worth the 4 years 18-20mm--but I would not go higher than that. If I have to--than hes gone.

A lottery pick and 50 mil cap space for Melo. I think you're dreaming.

So you would trade Melo for a Jerian Grant, THJ, Shump type player? Or perhaps I need to mention more of the womderful.players taken by the Knicks in mid first roundish? And you think KP and young players will get us a chip in how many years?

Love how guys cover up the real reason they hate Melo. He ruined their erections for Lin, Gallinari and all the other guys Melo ran out (In their hater minds) So they vent with half witted threads. And root for his failure even if it means a Knick loss.
Let me see if I can explain it to you.
1.Melo is the only All Star that wants to play on this shitty team. Play for this shitty system. Play for this shitty old arrogant GM who thinks throwing guys under the bus is still a good way to build an attractive organazation. Playboy whining, unrealistic city.
2. This team has no center, Out of position 4, out of position 3 and no true PG that can hit a jumper. Melo can't control that.
3. Melo is not MJ or LBJ! Like every sore losing MF on here wishes he was. However, he is one of the better players in the league. Does he take bad shots? Ofcourse, but he can still do what he did in 2nd Quarter. And he has shown the ability to want to fit in. He is Nothing more and Nothing less.
4. There is no team that has been at the bottom of standings consistently that has been able to rebuild through the draft(and win a chip). Btw. How will being on a parenial loser help KP? And if you think they won't be, you don't know sports, basketball or past history.
5. Anyone who expected Melo to win anything with the roster he had the two previous years, is a moron. Even LBJ had at least 2 All Stars next to him. (Crickets)
6. Hmmmm, let me see....what else. Oh yeah..HE HAS A NTC!! Which is the MAIN reason a smart GM won't give us much. So if your saying trade him for whatever, your not a Knicks fan. Just a hater. But we already know who those are.

You took the words right out of my mouth..
I feel like most of the people who are so in a hurry to get rid of him, were not around for the EWING era. Where the core of the roster stood pat and the franchise build through minor trades for solid role players. Guys like Sprewell, LJ, Harper, Oakly, Solid dudes that knew their role
You seen the sht work as recent as the 54 win season. That came together so quick because it was a team full of veterans. Now imaginge if we had KP in that mix. Gaining Knowledge from Rasheed, Camby, Kidd, KT. Those are the type of guys that you want around Melo and KP.
Some of you really have to wake up off the FANTASY BUILD THROUGH THE DRAFT non sense..You sound young and immature. Deep down you gotta know thats a shot in the dark.
Quite honestly, anyone who thinks melo is the problem and not phil, has their head in the sand and their feet in the air. If phil even thinks about making a trade, other than a minor one, that would completely solidify is idocracy as the head of the ship.

Not all Knicks fans. And even some of the ones that do hate even have some brains.
It's just the pointless, fact-ignoring hate that's hard to put up with.
You can point out endlessly the stupidity of people who post about how we got raped in "The Trade". It doesn't matter.
You can post all of the putrid seasons we had before Melo came here. It doesn't matter.
You can post about playoffs and second rounds and franchise records and game winning shots and playing with the likes of Chris Fuhuquing Smith. It doesn't matter.
They hate Melo. Even while they talk endlessly about how they don't really hate Melo.
And no level of facts, stats, loyalty or anything else will convince them otherwise.

It never fails to amaze me how the "look, something shiny!" worldview never seems to get old or worn out. No matter how many years that go by and the Sixers are still trying to win 20 games.
I know Gaines gets most of the credit for KP, but I can't blame Phil for all the shit going on around Melo. He's improved the backcourt. He's kept our damn 1st round picks. And he's gotten us some hopefully quality yoots. The Zen arrogant Charly Rosen mouthpiece BS I could do without. I disagree. When people cite Melo being a shotjacker, failing as a leader, failing to move well off the ball, failing to play basic team basketball, failing to play defense, failing at shot selection, failing to not stick his foot in his mouth in the press - it's an acknowledgement of his level of talent and capability.
A guy like Darrell Armstrong was not a highly touted player. He always put everything he had on the floor. He had limitations. He evolved into a very good player, albeit with drawbacks, because he put everything he had into it. If you asked Armstrong to be better on defense, well there's just things a player cannot do even if they want to do it, even if they exert full effort.
Melo has the raw talent to be one of the greatest players in NBA history. He's not a great defender because he chooses not to be. He has poor shot selection because he chooses to play that way. He doesn't move well off the ball because he doesn't put in the effort to do so. He consistently says stupid things in the press ( like panning the Knicks draft because they didn't pick Winslow or some other guy) because he wants to do it. He even did a large article spread talking about his biggest goal is being an "icon" and entrepreneur.
He does not make players around him better.
If he played the game the right way, and did so with everything he had, then that's that. He would get far less criticism.
He does not play the game the right way. And because he does not, the Knick will never win with him on the roster. He CHOOSES not to play the game the right way.
Win or lose, play the game the right way. That's a good soldier.
There are players with 1/1000th of Melo talent but have 10,000,000 times the heart and soul and relentless drive and whenever you see the comparison, it's actually pretty sad and tragic. When an undrafted player like Lin shows more leadership in two weeks than Melo does in his whole career, what does that say? And how did Melo react? By pouting, and not trying until he could kill off the coach that maximized said undrafted free agent who helped the team win. THE TEAM WIN. TEAM WINNING.
Melo cares more about the name on the back of the jersey than the team name on the front of the jersey. No one hates him, but a lot of people detest players who behave like this.
Play the game the right way, be relentless about being a team player and leader and all the things Melo wants like branding and movies and endorsements would all naturally come as well. That's the sad reality of Melo. He pursues things over winning that he'd get anyway if he gave everything to focus on winning.

This is what I love about any hater. He cites all this useless broad unbacked personal opinion bias bullshit. "Doesn't have heart" "Chooses to not" etc. How the fuck do you know? Just cuz? "Doesn't play the right way"? Do you mean pass the ball to guys that don't want to take "the shot"? Not be a post up player? Do you know anything about basketball? So one guy "chooses" to stop a whole team from scoring? This aint a Disney movie. And when he sits and the team drops leads and get beat on, its also his "choice" not to play defense? When did he make people, that were not as good, better around him? Hmmm, Check the roster on the 54 win season. Filled with guys that haven't exactly gone on to break statistical records and some guys that were a year away from retirement. Btw, most that know anything about basketball, already have Melo as one of the greatest players in NBA history. It's called the HOF!
Here is the thing about plain hateraid, you can make up any kind of personal opinion to try to make someone look or feel like their accomplishments are nothing. Thing is, none of that changes reality, it just makes haters feel better about their lack of accomplishments. Let's add these:
Ewing was never any good, never won anything.
Rich people are probably all miserable.
The guy with the gorgeous wife is probably just rich..
Melo is not the only All Star caliber player we have that is committed to NY.
Ah, I love New Yorkers! Darnell Fuckin Armstrong!! Lmmfao

Why are we so hypnotized by him? It's nuts
He's talented but cmon. Let's wake up
If you only had actual facts to these things you came up with but you don't and you're just making assumptions.

The CBA salary match rule presents few viable trade partners. In addition, almost no teams are 1 guy away from competing (maybe Boston or Toronto). That is a huge driver in this situation. It's why you don't see many big names move. If you could dump some salary and take a pick it would be more frequent.Anything we could get in a trade with any team other than Boston would likely be a massive step back. This is the NBA. Not even a handful of teams compete and the rest are stuck in purgatory.
Keeping rose should depend on who your going to add to the roster, from a defensive stand point. He needs better defenders around him, especially with melo.
