Knicks · Melo said he'd waive NTC if Knicks want to go in a different direction.....He just cracked open the door. (page 1)
Basically knick's can dictate this direction. Basically it would appear Phil would be the "Bad cop"
if knicks want to trade him. How public this becomes is to be determined.
Phil now has to answer this comment. Melo put the ball in knicks court.
This could be how Melo is the "good guy" if he can promote it as "good for knicks". Naturally Melo would have to approve any move.
Its a palatable path to a graceful exit.

If he accepts a trade that gets us back a good young starter and 1st round pick, it's worth it, but some things i will never understand. I was a fan of the trade for Melo, and would still make it again. The Knicks were not ruined by the trade. We still had Fields, who at the time was a starting SG as a rookie and had huge value, and eventually found Lin, and we let both of them walk for nothing. We didn't have the foresight to know we wouldn't resign them and deal them each for 1st round picks. The Barg deal was a failure of epic proportion. But we made a solid gamble on a 26 year old Melo just entering his prime and got his best years out of him. I am all for keeping him, but i understand that change might be needed for both sides. But we have to get real value for him. A long-term starting player and a 1st round pick has to be the minimum asking price.
Lebron and Durant are MVP and have moved in their prime. They left and gave no opportunity for compensation to their teams.
Melo was not wanted by many here for basketball reasons. His loyalty is really not in question because its never really be established. He has protected himself above the team. He rejected MDA ball movement and to a lessor degree the Triangle.
Melo is not evil, he is not MVP material. At this point the knicks would be better off getting a good return on him if the experiment is over with him.
Personally I like the guy. As discussed many times ones opinin might be rooted in their expectation of who he is as a player and what a superstar can do for a team.
He has not been that superstar that can carry a team, he was not the golden Mooby, and thus some are disappointed.
Boston traded Pierce and Garnett for a healthy return. I think Melo can get us good deal on some assets. I said good, not great.
But also, Phil is building a different team than Hornacek wants to coach..Phil has different ideas about how the Knicks should be playing..Shouldn't all these issues be addressed at once if we are going in a different direction??

Agreed. I think Chicago is a very underrated destination. Wade will push for him. They have a lot of assets and workable contracts. Rondo and Gibson expirings. McDermott, Valentine, and Mirocic are decent young players. And they have 2 1st round picks this year. There's probably a workable deal in there somewhere.

It's not great, but will be enough to push them into the playoffs most likely. Melo is unlikely to win a title in his career, but this will give him a solid chance to compete in the playoffs with his friend for the last couple years of his contract and re-evaluate his options after that. His wife will enjoy chicago and sitting courtside with Wade's wife, who is her close friend. I don't think he will accept a deal to boston. I see LAC, Cavs, or Bulls.

Yeah but the NETS will be paying for that trade for a long while. You think melo's going to say send me to a team that has zero chance of being contender so ya'll can get draft picks..lol
Knowing phil, he'll trade melo for two 2nd round picks, and a 12th man on the bench

Yeah, just to match salaries. His contract is non-guaranteed for next year so we would just eat the cost of the remainder of this season and cut him right away. Gibson is expiring but is nice to have. He is still helpful. Portis is a nice prospect. And that draft pick could be the sacramento pick, which is top 10 protected this year, then i think its unprotected, or top 3 protected, in the future. But i bet it's conveyed this year. Would be likely between 10-13.

If Melo really like NY he should bring to Knicks some value at last. Better later that never.
He enjoyed great support, a lot of $$$, endorsements, and brand support in NY.
Time to give back a bit by letting the team to rebuild the right way.
He knows that he is odd peace at this point of Kincks team development.
I do not think his legacy will be affected in any way.
And he will not be blamed by real Knicks fans.
I will be the one to applaud him if he leaves and will drop all my complains about him.
He should understand that his statue will diminish in NY with every passing day of his useless remainder of contract.

Agree to most of what you said. But here is the thing, NY fans don't want good players. They want LBJ or Jordan. And they don't stop and consider that even they needed lots of star's to align in order to win. That's Melo. He was an All Star. But he was no LBJ or Jordan.just not good enough here. We rather trade any player that doesn't bring us a chip and roll the dice in draft lottery.

Your assuming we are to have transparency of the meeting.
All we know is Melo don't want to be the bad guy.
He said he wants to be a knick.
Two days later he is now saying he would waive if knicks want to do that.
That's all we know.

NY Knicks fans to be precise.
NY Rangers fans get cured from this sickness... and have a great team to root for 10 years already.
And it is getting even better.
Still no cup but it is within reach.
With great leadership the things can be changed to better. There is always some hope.
holfresh wrote:Wouldn't this have been discussed in their meeting??..It might be a good settlement for both parties..Definitely and it doesn't sound like a lot was discussed at that meeting. Phil's leak reported it was contentious and that they were mulling things over. Everyone else reported it differently. Also, while the rest of the league is loading up and guards Phil is loading up on centers. If you count KP the Knicks have 5 centers on their roster. They have two point guards.

I'd be willing to bet anything that it was discussed in the meeting. I said it on here a couple of times already that all these writers came out saying what was said in that meeting but there's no way any of them would know because the only two people in the meeting was Phil and Melo and both have shown many times that neither one of them are gonna tell any of these writers whatever they don't want them knowing so the writers just come up with things so they have an article to write. PJ Carlisemo also said it two days ago on espn that for all any of us know Melo could have given Phil a list of teams that he'd accept a trade to but no writer or anyone outside of that room would know that. One of my main reasons i hate writers is because they write things that aren't true just to make their article into something people want to read.
