Smart ranks as the most efficient passer in the NBA out of the pick-and-roll per Synergy at 1.333 points per possession, followed by Deron Williams, Thomas, Tony Parker and LeBron James. He has made the third year leap many top point guards experience, going from learning how to get to the rim to learning how to feel out defenses and work laterally. It’s the same jump Rajon Rondo made in 2009, when he went from a good driver on kick-outs to a dagger-wielding hitman.

Smart is a good player, but I hate his guts. Would have a hard time rooting for him.

I feel the same way about him. After he did that shyt in college with the fan when he tried saying the fan was yelling racial slurs at him which ended up not being true i hated from there on.

That wasn't true? I thought it ended up being true?

Great quality to have but no impact on market value.

Having said LeBron may have enough sway to get a decision, but I doubt it with the amount of money involved it would be fats to swallow for Cleveland.

I was only using the Banana Boat Crew as an example. Guys like Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson were signing his praises just yesterday. Same thing with Jalen Rose and Chauncey Billups on Friday. The league is well aware of Melo's flaws and preface them everytime they speak of him BUT the overwhelming opinion amongst the NBA community is that the guy is "big-time" and helps you win ball games. There is a reason why teams like the Rockets, that are poineers for analytics, were willing to max Melo when he was a free agent and have shown interest in him in the past.

LOL at all the Melo love.

Nobody was speaking highly of him until Knicks started talking about trading him.

At the same time Knicks shouldn't expect any sort of trade value for Melo -- we have the same people now saying Melo is a star.

It really comes down to .... Melo on Knicks = garbage. Melo trade value to Knicks = garbage BUT Knicks looking to trade Melo and Melo becomes Jesus Christ around the league.

Bottom line - time to get this turd off this roster.

I've always been a Melo supporter. I'm from Syracuse and obviously a Cuse fan so Melo has always been my guy. I haven't changed my tune on how i feel about him but before being a Melo fan i'm a Knicks fan so if what's best for the Knicks is trading Melo then i'm alright with it, but i don't want to give him away just to get him off the team. Melo is worth more than some throw ins. Phil needs to become a smart GM/President and play the game with these other teams like maybe tell the teams interested that they're taking him off the market and if a team wants him bad enough then they'll give better offers for him cause right now every team thinks we'll do whatever to trade him. Phil could also play this against Melo, if Melo really wants to go to another team then there's ways that we might be able to get him to add teams to his list by trading all the other vets on the team and start playing the young guys more and take some of his minutes away from him or other ways but i'd hate to have to push him out. If Melo gets traded i want him to leave with no hard feelings towards the Knicks organization, now i'm sure he's gonna have bad feelings towards Phil no matter what but Phil won't be here after his contract is up anyway.

I'm not 100% on this but i'm close to it and i think Smart even admitted that that never happened.

I would be very happy to get Smart on this team- just what we need a defensive PG!

I thought SAS was full of it the other day when he was saying Love was breaking down and had back or knee issues (on that show he did about the Melo trade), but now Love is out with a bad back again, so i wonder if there's some truth to it, and whether it makes affects the cavs willingness to move him for Melo, and whether the Celtics would still want him.

I think Boston/D.Ainge has his eyes on two SG's....J.Butler who i think the Bulls are pushing hard to trade and G.Heyward who's a free agent after this season.

As far as players we would get in return for Melo, we will not get anywhere near equal value to make us better off vs. keeping him for another two years. The only trade the Knicks should do would be for expiring contracts and high draft picks, plus possibly packaging him with Noah. Then we should be in good shape for a healthy rebuild.
smackeddog @ 1/30/2017 5:33 PM
With the talk of the Celtics getting involved, I wonder if the clips are trying to get back their 2019 first rounder from them to trade to us.

That "turd" is a sure-fire HOF.

There's no love for Cleveland this year

The defending champs may soon get back in the Melo sweepstakes, good for us to bid up the price

According to the espn trade machine the Cavs have a few trade exceptions: 2 at just under $5mil, a $2mil and a few less. I wonder if we could help them with their depth, so as well as Melo for Love, send them Jennings ($5mil) and KOQ (44mil) or Plumlee, or Holiday, to sweeten the deal. Of course its completely reliant on if Love is breaking down and or if Lebron pushes for it.

Whatever happens with Melo or where he gets traded to which seems to be between the Clips and Cavs, i think for us to get the kinda of return we want which has to have a 1st round pick or two involved we need for the Celtics to be involved in this and for them to be involved they will be wanting a player that can help them this year coming their way whether that be a B.Griffin or a K.Love or a lower named player like maybe they'd be interested in C.Lee but they're gonna want something coming their way and not for that to be a J.Crawford type player. I already said this but i think the Celtics are trying to get J.Butler and think they probably will get him if Ainge will give in and give up a good return and if they get Butler then i don't see them wanting any part of getting involved in any Melo deal. For us to come away from all of this with the best return possible for Melo we're gonna need for Phil to show patience and not just give in on any deal just to get a deal done.
