Knicks · PHIL PLEASE KEEP THIS ROSTER TOGETHER (page 1)

knicks1248 @ 1/27/2017 10:07 PM
This team just needs some time grow, and KP needs playoff experience. 2 games out of the playoff picture with the bulls(stuggling tonight)detroit(stuggling)bucks(strugling like us) and we just beat the hornets.

We have beaten all those teams, we need to weather the storm and stay focus, phil and his damn ego is killing me..You will sink us if you trade melo, you wont get back anything that will remotely help us...

CrushAlot @ 1/27/2017 10:09 PM
It seems like the best option is to keep Melo based on the reported deals out there. Revisit before the draft if this doesn't work out. Tons of deals are made then.
fitzfarm @ 1/27/2017 10:15 PM
Keep melo but make KP the main man on offense ... again the worst quarter was the 3rd vs charlotte where KP took zero shots. KP taking zero shots in one quarter is unacceptable
nixluva @ 1/27/2017 10:15 PM
I don't believe the rumors that Phil is gonna give Melo away for a bag of balls. There's no incentive for Phil to do that. He's not under any pressure to make a bad deal. No matter what we still have our picks. Unless Phil can get a good return it doesn't make sense to make a deal. The real issue is a need to get LEGIT PG play. This draft has some quality PG's. The only way I deal is if they can get a pick that could land us one of those PG's.

Everything you wrote makes sense except that he has made bad deals before when he was not under any pressure to get a deal done.

I just think that some of us had some lofty expectations (i know i did) and want to blow it up already. Kp needs melo in a big way, and I think rose needs time to get the shoot first mentality out of his mind.

I don't know why I expected rose to turn into a passer overnight after playing one way for his entire career..I think a minor trade to for a better role player is needed, but the core of melo, kp, rose, lee, holiday, jennings, willy and kuz needs to be the foundation..lance, KOQ, noah, sasha, and baker..those are your trade chips

nyknickzingis @ 1/27/2017 10:27 PM
For all we know all this trade talk is mind games. Have we not actually seen Melo play harder since the trade talk? Shockingly the team does not seem to be affected by it, they are playing closer. In the last 2 weeks, we have beaten Boston on the road, Indiana on the road, Charlotte and Chicago at home, We're 4-6 in the last 10, and actually lost I believe 2 or 3 games out of those where we had a lead in the last minute. We're playing a playoff team virtually every night.

I don't think the team is making the playoffs. They don't play enough defense, they have heavily invested in two players (financially) that only play one on one making us inconsistent on offense. We have invested in Noah who flat out sucks right now, he may be our 4th best Center on the roster. So you can't make the playoffs nor should you keep the roster together in that situation.

But I would keep Melo unless I got back a lottery pick or a lottery drafted player. Anything less than that, I pass. We have over 30 million in capspace this summer, we can make some small trades, draft a lottery pick, and regroup around KP, Melo, Willy, Lee and rebuild a new team with a different point guard running it. Who knows what type of talent we may get with the draft pick.

I don't trade Melo out of force or take a bad deal. I think Phil knows this. He is doing due dilligence at this time of year. I am open to a Melo trade if I get some of the right assets, but I am also open to this next year:

Willy/O'Quinn
KP/Kuz
Melo/Holiday
Starting SG/Lee
Staring PG/Jennings

Plumlee, Noah, Baker 3rd string.

Could a lottery pick, 30$M in capspace allow us to re-sign Jennings and Holiday as well as get 2 new starting guards? Willy should be ready for more minutes next year and I like Plumlee as well.

I'm thinking of a veteran non-star PG out there who could do what Kidd used to, or Billups. Someone who just plays hard on defense, high IQ, makes the right play and runs the coach's playbook well. I don't know who that is. And draft wise, we could really use an athletic 2-way guard/forward wing type. Golden State got Klay Thompson late in the lottery. Devin Booker was drafted late as well. If only we could be as lucky !

SocraticBallin22 @ 1/27/2017 10:28 PM
I would trade Melo at the deadline only if I could get one first rounder and expiring contracts back.
dacash @ 1/27/2017 10:28 PM
if we had lost , ppl would be thinking sooooooo differently.

The only deal he has made that I think everyone is scratching there head at is Noah . But even then Phil and co didn't know that KOQ was going to break out and Willy was going to be the player he is...

Interms of melo it's always good to shop and see what you can get ... this is KP's team it's time for melo to be a true leader and allow the offense to run through KP .

Bad moves for Phil
Signing Noah
Melo's NTC
ReSigning LT

Good moves
Drafting KP
Rose one year rental and getting rid of Jose
KOQ signing
Kuz signing
Drafting Willy
Signing Lee
Signing baker
Getting holiday as a throwin in the rose deal
Signing Jennings to a one year rental

Phil has done way more good then bad this team is in good position for the future... hey if we suck with melo or without him we have our pick !!!

Phil did one thing no other Knicks GM has done since Ewing and that is protect our picks. To me Phil has had some bad deals but not the Tragic mistake other GM's we've had made where picks were surrendered. I think Phil wants a good pick and young player for Melo.

Not really, we are still in the hunt even if we lost, and when im looking around the league, anybody can lose to anybody on any given night.

4 or 5 games in a row and your in the thick of things.

There is nothing to gain by making the playoffs.

Zero. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

Porzingis playoff experience? This is a fantasy to make yourself feel good about being swept by the Cavs in the first round. That's not experience, that's a waste of resources.

The Knicks need to lose for the betterment of the franchise.

no more trade melo, no more kp not playing good enough, no more should have got this or that instead of what we have. now its phil keep it together we need to go 40 and 0

knicks1248 @ 1/27/2017 11:02 PM
this january month 17 games in 31 days...this is the heart of the storm, weather this, and we can make the push. Wouldn't you want to see kp in the playoffs then meaning less games and empty stats

I want to see my team win in my lifetime.

Making the playoffs in favor of losing out on a higher draft pick doesn't help that initiative.

No more KP to the bench the guy is our best player and we need to run the offense through him , not melo... KP involved in the first half tonight was amazing, why did we switch and give the ball to melo in the third and forget our best player who took zero shots in the third and just one in the forth. ... we probably would have blown charlotte out tonight if we kept the offense moving through KP getting him open shots and transition buckets .

we got like 3 solid rookies...your not tired of being on the bottom of the standings, every year talking about the draft..oh the draft, oh the draft. only to grab some half ass project...Im tired of that.

I just want phil to stop changing the roster every damn miniute, and let the coach do him

No we don't.

Willy is solid.

Kuz is 27 years old and a roleplayer at best.

Who else are you referring to? Baker is a nobody.

This teams needs a lot more than Willy and Porzingis to be a contender in the future.

What are you even talking about? When do we talk about the draft every year when WE NEVER HAVE OUR DRAFT PICKS?! Ridiculous statement.

What project did we draft? Porzingis? Damn, sure sucks we got that guy! Better off having 32 year old Melo take 25 shots a game and fight for an 8th seed. We're really going places!

Unless Phil blows up this roster they won't be bad enough to get a top 5 pick! I'm not sure what you think the Knicks chances of falling far enough actually are but they still have a lot of teams ahead of them in a lottery situation. As bad as the losing has been they aren't in the running for that top pick.
