Knicks · Austin Rivers (page 1)

Been doing a little research on him since i feel like Melo will ultimately end up in LA and Rivers will headline any return we do get. He came into the league with a fair amount of hype and was pretty bad for his first couple of seasons. But quietly, he's actually become a very good player. He is averaging 12 ppg this season on 45% shooting and 40% 3pt shooting. In the month of January, he's averaging 18 points and 4 asts. He's averaged over 20 ppg and shooting over 50% from the field and from 3 while replacing the injured Chris Paul in the lineup. If we deal Melo, it will be to build around KP. Rivers is a great fit next to KP. He can play both guard positions, shoot, be a secondary playmaker, and is only 24 years old. He's not a great defender, but he competes defensively. At best, he can develop into a good starting SG who can score and pass. At worst, he's a quality 6th man/combo guard off the bench.

Good call. This article discusses it in more depth.

It might be his time to shine now. He's always been a hard worker and super confident. He's mature now and still young enough to grow with KP.... we would be lucky to have him.
smackeddog @ 1/28/2017 4:17 PM
He used to love Kobe's game and studied him a lot, probably Phil sees him do stuff he used to get Kobe to do
callmened @ 1/28/2017 4:26 PM
ill tell you all about him

STRENGTHS: super athletic, improving jumper and decision making

WEAKNESSES: poor instincts on defense, not a good feel for the game, not a passer

OVERALL: nice role player that would start for a bad team, sit the bench on a good team

He plays for a good team now and doesn't sit on the bench. He is a major factor, and was a major factor in the playoffs last year. And obviously there is still upside and room to grow.

I just listened to Locked on Clippers. The host is a big Austin fan but he also said he thinks this deal will go through as everybody seems to want it. He said he sees the deal as being Wesley, Johnson, Alan Anderson, Jamaal and Austin with Jamaal going to another team. He also said the Knicks might get a first rounder in the deal. I don't think the Clips have a first round pick that they can trade until 2022 but that still would make it a better deal.

I think that gets it done. Getting a 3rd team to take Crawford shouldn't be hard. Lebron was just crying about getting a playmaker

Rookie @ 1/28/2017 5:27 PM
so the Knicks trade their best player, don't get any salary relief, don't get any younger, don't get any starters and might get a pick 6 years from now....and you think that gets it done? What am I missing here?
nyknickzingis @ 1/28/2017 5:28 PM
He's 24 and could start for us at 2, Lee may move to the or come off the bench with Kuz stating at 3.

I don't know though Austin does not look like more than a role player. I guess it would come down to what they did with cap space after in 2017 free agency. If they signed another starter in his mid twenties you basically get two starters in their primes for Melo and that isn't bad. But free agency hasn't been kind to us.

I think Phil wants to move him at almost all costs. I am not sure why but that is what it sounds like.

What would satisfy you? Jamal would have to be flipped to another team, meaning the Knicks would get something from that 3rd team. There's a few variables that need to be sorted out. But that framework is decent for the Knicks. The Knicks will have a few players to move around since it will be a 4 or 5 player trade for 1....

This isn't the Ewing trade. The Knicks are bad. We need to transition to the Kristaps era.

But you think his own father would trade him even though he is such a good value and starting to "Hit on all Cylinders"??

These are the kind of deals that get people fired. Never going to happen. Just the usual random BS that gets thrown around weeks before the deadline. So far the only trade partner that makes any sense at all for both teams is Cleveland.

I don't know if you can accommodate any decent trade before the deadline. Wait until the summer, cap goes up, more options then.

Rivers will finally win a trade and he has the chance to at least get to the w c f
