Knicks · This knick team can compete no matter who is out there (page 1)

We lose Rose, Melo and KP we still can compete with teams. Last night we had no Rose and we were right there. We can point to alot of games where we won or took it to the wire with guys out.

We are lacking leadership. That's what kills me about this group. It's not about guys yelling and screaming. It's about men leading men. Satin the right thing and the right time, rallying the troops, calling guys our and also accepting their responsibilities/calling themselves out.

This is why we need to make the early transition now to the next era.... Phil understands this now with this group. It's sad because I never seen that before with a team with this much talent and charecter.

Um...that was a big reason why we were right there. no boneheaded moves from rose. and oh jennings 2 biggest 3's of the season...no way rose does that either.

Your right, but it also takes time and chemistry. Melo is the tenured guy, the 9th highest paid player, an NCAA champ, Multi Gold medalist but struggles to be an Alpha.
Not sure what your looking for. A guy scowling to rally the troops? Seems like Noah is that guy. A cheer leader and a very hard worker. It should be Rose, but thats not him. Melo scowls when he succeeds and smiles when he fails.

What was lacking in leadership yesterday?

The future of this team is going to be about filling in the Floor Leader at PG with a 2 way player and solid SG and SF. We have some quality bigs already. As amazing as Melo can be, we all know that it's time to prepare for the future while Melo still has value. Performances like he's been having should be more than enough to make GM's seriously consider adding Melo to their Playoff Team. Melo is the only Bonafide Elite scorer out there to be grabbed. He could be a huge difference maker for any Playoff Series.

This draft is DEEP and the KNicks need to find a way into the top 10. The Knicks can get a very nice haul in this draft by trading Melo and getting a pick in the process. Phil has to do that. I still believe this roster could make the playoffs but I no longer care about that. It's all about the future for me.

It is very difficult to get some value for Malo considering NTC, trade kicker, and his contract.
I do not have my hopes high about it. We need a lot of luck.

Basketball is all about the lead guard. Every championship team in history has a lead guard that controlled the game. Right now, we don't have that. Rose can be that guy if he was moved the SG and lead from there but you will need a PG that can distribute and manage the game. Right now, one of our best players is not being utilized properly. Our PG should be doing evrything in his power to get KP in the right spots to score. Right now, Melo is the only one that is consitently looking to setup KP.

I agree that it's going to make it MUCH tougher to get a deal done. However, it's not impossible. These teams will have plenty of time to talk and figure something out. Everybody wants something and the trick is to be on the phones talking until you figure out how to make a deal work for multiple teams. If you spread things about a bit it can make it more palatable for each team. I don't see a good 2 team deal. Has to be at least 3 teams to make this work.

I wish we didn't have to trade Melo but I think it's the right move to make. He's 10 years older than the new young core on this team will be after this summer's draft!!! That MASSIVE age gap is just untenable going forward.

We have talent. Our talent allows us to compete. Leadership isn't posturing. It's locking in and getting guys together. Leadership is not about simply hitting or missing shots. We didn't lose one game we've lost alot of games. Why haven't we cane out of this losing streak? Why do we have to go to the end of games only to cry about bad refs.

Every player needs to have it. Not just Noah. Everyone talks about Woodson and that 50 win team but we also had a super mix of leadership. Everyone was always focused. Even jr smith. He won 6th man of the year. Knicks don't have that now. That's the difference in a 50 win tan or a 30 something win team which is where we're headed.

To me this is the BIG reason for failure during the Melo Era! The failure to have a TRUE leader like Kidd or Billups. IMO we will have to DRAFT that player! No more trying to buy him. Just focus on players with leadership qualities as well as talent in the next 2 drafts. I'm not saying it's easy to find those players but they have to try to find them in the draft.
