Knicks · Trade Rose at the Deadline too... (page 1)

SocraticBallin22 @ 2/1/2017 10:23 PM
BJ shot .091 from the field tonight BUT he had 10 assists and ran the team. I can deal with that the rest of the season.

Rose does not fit into what we're trying to do. He's an ISO, scoring guard volume shooter. He does not make his teammates better. I doubt his commitment to the Knicks or the game of a basketball right now. He's on an expiring contract and has proven that he's healthy this year and can still get to the rim. We are obviously not extending his contract.

Try to get another 1st rounder for Rose and his expiring contract to a contending team who think they are one scorer away. Let's stockpile as many 1st rounders as we can get in a deep draft. He is not part of our future.

Sign a kid from the D league to backup BJ and give Baker more run. It behooves us to be a lottery team right now and develop our young core.

The Rose deal could end up helping us in the long term if we can net a 1st rounder or young talent for him.

Let's do it.

NardDogNation @ 2/1/2017 10:30 PM
Contenders don't have the cap space or empty contracts to acquire Derrick Rose in a trade, especially if a first round pick is involved. Our options to move Derrick are very limited. I only could see a desperate team like the Kings, a nostalgic coach/GM like Thibs or a team just looking for a body like the Sixers willing to deal for Rose. Personally, I think the Sixers would be inclined to bite (along with cash incentives) in exchange for Sergio Rodriguez and a $10 million trade exception. With Ben Simmons likely to be the teams' floor general, a guy like Derrick Rose would be free to be a scorer, exclusively.
nyknickzingis @ 2/1/2017 11:08 PM
Yeah don't see us trading Rose. No team that wants him will give us what we would covet which is expiring contracts and a draft pick.
I would definitely give the PG spot to Jennings. Complete ownership. He is not a good point guard, maybe an average one at best. He can't shoot or score effectively, but he has true leadership skills, true toughness and also PG skills that are vital such as stressing ball movement and finding the open man. Everyone feels a part of the show when BJ has the ball. When Melo or Rose are doing their thing, everyone stands around and watches.
sealy @ 2/1/2017 11:17 PM
rather him walk and obtain cap space.

+1 - Any deal would certainly tie us up. Anything other than a buy out or letting the season play out with him is a terrible idea.

dacash @ 2/2/2017 12:28 AM
we should be able to get some second round draft picks for him
joec32033 @ 2/2/2017 1:24 AM
Hahn had a good idea of trading him to the Bucks. Personally if Cleveland doesnt want Melo, how about Rose as that extra playmaker Lebron wants.
smackeddog @ 2/2/2017 4:00 AM
Sixers!
franco12 @ 2/2/2017 6:39 AM
I'd like to think we can get something decent for him - I'm not going to scour rosters to see talent/salary that match up.

If we can't, then we should buy him out so we're not in a position to max him out over the summer.

I can live with Jennings if the money is reasonable- and then we hope we find our eventual starter in the draft.

You may be right but we have to at least see if we can get any assets. We can always buy him out after the trade deadline or let him walk after the year.
I have a bad feeling Phil is going to give him a huge contract though.

Chandler @ 2/2/2017 7:49 AM
If he's traded again does the acquiring team get that provision where they can offer him more money to resign him?

If so he may be worth something for that provision alone but then like a second rounder or a bench player

Otherwise we're stuck w him. I don't see any playoff teams thinking he's the piece for their playoff drive and the other teams would rather wait, keep their assets, and probably prefer develiping their current players and getting better draft pick (i.e. Like we would at this point)

I agree in part. He needs to be more disciplined on D before I call him tough or a leader

Also what the hell happened to him. This guy scored 50 points in a game once. Where did his offense go?!?

Who from the Bucks are we getting? I don't see anybody there that matches his contract.

Nalod @ 2/2/2017 10:25 AM
Perhaps the complicated trade exemption a team has for the remainder of his deal can net him to a roster.
I would say a team that wants to sign him next year and offer him a better deal with his rights would be the motivation.
In his MVP year he averaged over 7 assists a game.
As for his defense, Im under the belief its effort or one trying to preserve himself that prevents good play on that end.

I thought everyone was already on board with trading D.Rose but you're expecting to much in getting a 1st round pick for him. I just don't see a team giving that up for a guy that plays no defense, doesn't really have a outside shot, has already missed games because of two different injuries and his going missing for a game. I'd take anything we can get for him and if we could get a 1st round pick even if that pick is 4/5 years from now i'd take it and run.

GoNyGoNyGo @ 2/2/2017 10:30 AM
Part of me would like to see what Rose can do with Melo not there. WIll he step up as a leader? Maybe.

The other part agrees with this thread. Trade him for cap space and picks.

so I thought I would be in favor of letting him expire but have heard some interesting talk. For example, Rose to Orlando for Serge Ibaka. I could be down for getting a defensive player of his calibur... him and KP could be really interesting, assuming we can talk someone into trading for Noah

Ibaka is pending free agent. OKC didn't want to pay him. Orlando didn't want to pay Olidapo and now Ibaka. Does Orlando want to pay Rose? Do you understand who owns the Magic? DeVos family.
Do you know their values? Do you think Rose's public trial makes him a suitable employee given the high profile of that trail?

smackeddog @ 2/2/2017 1:23 PM
Just out of curiosity, would ibaka be a good fit next to KP?

100% agree. This would be a VERY smart move.

I think we already have a PF/C running mate for KP in Willy.
