Knicks · Trade Rose at the Deadline too... (page 2)

I think we already have a PF/C running mate for KP in Willy.
GoNyGoNyGo wrote:Part of me would like to see what Rose can do with Melo not there. WIll he step up as a leader? Maybe. The other part agrees with this thread. Trade him for cap space and picks.
Leaders lead... they don't step up after already being there. Not after being a nba mvp. He's not a leader. Melo isn't a leader. Are they good players, yes. Do they make anybody better? Nope. Put them on a ready made team and they will show their worth. That's what they are... gun slingers, hit men...
Trade Rose now because I'm not sure we can get anyone to fill in with that cap space he's providing. His contract offers teams financial freedom this off season. We need a point guard who can do it all.
Dragic is dangling. Miami would absolutely do a Rose for Dragic trade....
Minnesota wants to get rid of Rubio to save money to pay their young guys and to free up playing time for their young pgs. They would absolutely do a Rubio for Rose trade....
Phoenix wants to get rid of Brandon Knight...
I think if we wanted any of these guys (Dragic, Rubio, Brandon Knight) we could have them tomorrow

No...
Right now the Knicks could just keep Noah and play him off the bench. This is the KP and Willy show now

I hear what you are saying. The only thing that gives me pause is that this is Melo's team. Rose is younger and came in just this year. Maybe he has deferred. To argue that, Kidd came in and had no problem being the leader.
I guess if Melo was gone, maybe Rose and Noah would step up as they would no longer defer to Melo. They could lead the young guys and they could be the alpha's.
I understand what you mean though. Rose is not a passer. He is a ball stopper too.
WHich one of those three would you want? I think i would go for Rubio first. Defense and passing. Then Dragic.

I would be good with Rubio... I think that's the most realistic option. Minnesota just wants to lose the contract. They aren't looking for sweetners. With Rubio, the pressure is off Jennings to be the facilitator. He can get back to trying to score more off the bench.
With Rose we know the ball is going to the basket.... nobody is going to get a pass. With Rubio... the ball is getting in the paint and somebody is going to get an open shot.
I like Dragic too because he will pass score and shoot. He runs the floor well also. He would allow better spacing. He also would make it easier to play Jennings along side him.
NYKBocker wrote:Who from the Bucks are we getting? I don't see anybody there that matches his contract.
Milwaukee Bucks: Greg Monroe, PF/C
Remaining contract: 2016-17 — $17.1 million; '17-18 — $17.9 million (player option)
****
Rose, at this point, would work as a salary match for a contract dump I.E. a player incoming with more years than the current team wants to have on their books. They might give a small asset to a medium asset or assets to wash their hands of basically a bad contract THAT EXTENDS PAST THIS YEAR.
Los Angeles Lakers: Timofey Mozgov, C
Remaining contract: 2016-17 — $16.0 million; '17-18 — $15.3 million; '18-19 — $16.0 million; '19-20 — $16.7 million
New Orleans Pelicans: Omer Asik, C
Remaining contract: 2016-17 — $9.9 million; '17-18 — $10.6 million; '18-19 — $11.3 million; '19-20 — $12.0 million
Minnesota Timberwolves: Nikola Pekovic, C
Remaining contract: 2016-17 — $12.1 million; '17-18 — $11.6 million
Houston Rockets: Ryan Anderson, PF
Remaining contract: 2016-17 — $18.7 million; '17-18 — $19.6 million; '18-19 — $20.4 million; '19-20 — $21.3 million
Memphis Grizzlies: Chandler Parsons, SF
Remaining contract: 2016-17 — $22.1 million; '17-18 — $23.1 million; '18-19 — $24.1 million; '19-20 — $25.1 million
Not saying the Knicks should make any of these deals, but am saying teams are always looking to dump their bad contracts and frankly if the Knicks are going to be tanking anyway, there might be enough incentive to essentially rent their cap space out for assets.
Pekovic with filler might make the most sense. His career is over. The T Wolves are dealing with a cap hit versus cash hit situation. Insurance will cover a chunk of the cash hit, but the cap hit is the bigger concern.

The Knicks already have players filling in these positions. I don't want to trade for guys to be back yous to KP and Willy especially with KOQ and Noah on the team

I doubt it. In all of Riley's tenure as Team President/Front Office exec, he has only dumped talent once (e.g. DaQuan Cook and a pick to OKC; Dorrell Wright to GSW and Michael Beasley to MIN) and that was in 2010 when he needed to make cap space for LeBron and Chris Bosh. Aside for this one exception, Riley has been strident in making deals to win them from a value perspective, so I doubt he juat dumps a valuable asset like Dragic without there being some return. Besides, what is he going to do with $20 million in cap space when he is already slated to have close to $60 million already?

I doubt that Dragic is an option for us without giving up an asset. But if he hypothetically was available and we could get him for cheap, I'd pick him. As much as he has his defensive shortcomings, his versatility on offense and elderstatemen status make him more appealing to a rebuilding team that lacks identity. I also think his pre-existing relationship with Hornacek would go a long way in building a healthy culture on the team.

I looked it up...there were 3 deals where any 2 of the 3 matched of Plumlee(just traded), Henson, and Teletovic. Hibbert can be part of a deal if it would be say Hibbert (FA), Teletovic (2 yrs.) And some fodder like Snell and Vaughn.
I think they should also look to sell off whatever else anyone is interested that isnt Willy, KP, Holiday or Kuz. See what you can get for KO and Lee. More picks more younger players to develop long term with the young core.
kingofelpaso wrote:Keeping in mind that I think that the best strategy for the team long term is to sell off their non-essential assets to tank and long-term rebuild, Rose should definitely be traded. I wonder if the Kings would look to him for a late-season playoff push. We could send out Rose for Rudy Gay, McLemore, and either Skal Labissiere or Malachi Richardson. Rudy is hurt and would probably opt in after achilles surgery, which would only be for one more year, so its not a big deal. McLemore expires after this year and we would probably just let him walk. That would leave either Richardson or Skal as the biggest acquisition of the trade. Young talent to add to the core to develop over time and with cheap contracts too. It would be even better if they could somehow be convinced to give up Willie Caulie Stein, who kind of reminds me of a young Noah.Boy if the Kings would do a deal like that it would be awesome. McLemore and Malachai would be awesome.I think they should also look to sell off whatever else anyone is interested that isnt Willy, KP, Holiday or Kuz. See what you can get for KO and Lee.
