Knicks · If it helps trade melo (page 2)
Here is what KP says about Melo
“There’s still a lot more things I want to learn from Melo,” Porzingis told The News. “So I would love to have him around for a long time. I always love playing with Melo.”
Melo has been a good big bro to KP. Rose coming in has really changed the chemistry of the two. I prefer for us to give BJ the reigns and make him understand the importance of getting the ball to everyone not just Melo. Melo needs to play more team ball.
If the dude loves Ny, is a good team mate and has shown he will encourage KP we should be open to rebuilding while Melo holds down the fort for 2 more years. But we must must have a PG that will not defer to Melo ISO ball and instead runs the coaches system and playbook.
We will draft a lottery pick this year. We can plan on a a team of KP, Melo, Willy, that lottery pick. We let Rose walk, maybe deal Lance to clear cap, and we can find some young players in free agency. We were actually rebuilding pretty decently with RoLo, Grant alongside Melo/KP until we went all in for a run with Noah, Lee and Rose.
Paris907 wrote:We can all bitch about Phil but here's My take:
I don't care about JR and Shump we they were malcontents and Melo unlike Lebron couldn't make them better. Hernangomez and Porzingis may both be long remembered in NY and Phil made it happen. Remember we were talking about Mudiay who Denver is wanting to unload. Lee, Owuinn, Jennings ($5MM) and Rose rental for a year were all solid moves. Yet the team doesn't jell defensively and with Rose, Jennings and Melo playing lax D it's no wonder. Phil took a gamble on Noah and was $72 million Wrong and that hurts. Yet he will end up backing Porzingis at the 5 and that will have to work. If Porzingis and Hernangomez end up being starters for years, at 22 and 22 respectively, that's progress and maybe Rose STICKS. Melo era is over. EnY and Briggs are right. Just secure future choices and unload. If there is a younger rotation player in the deal that's fine. You won't be getting Jimmy Butler or Love.
Wrong. LBJ, Love, Irving made them better. And so did Melo, Did you forget the 54 win season? You should care what happened to them as they could have gotten us something in return if not for Phil's rush to rebuild for 1st out of 3 times.
Wrong. Gaines made KP and Willy happen.
Right. Big mistakes by Phil. One will cost us 17m for 4 years.
As for OP. Yes would trade Melo for picks and young starters. Or else no reason to do lateral move (unless you hate the guy which many one here don't have the balls to say);
Good read sums up my view.

Then force to pick up $2 role players that wont cut it.
You can think of it all if phils has the upper hand and can trade him any where, the player is not going to give at rats ass about making sure the trade benefits the franchise thats forcing him out ahead of his likings.
Phil made his bed, and now he needs to lie in it and make it right, and stop making emotional decision like a whinnny bitch. Stay focus and capitalize on the good he has done instead of setting us back 10 years with a bunch of BS trades and avg signings that don't amount to squat.

I complained about Woodson, they killed me for that, what happen to him
I complained about Fisher they said I was trolling, what happen to him
I complained about clueless rambis, they killed me on that, and he would be fired if he wasn't phills bud.I'm not saying not trade melo, but phil better make a hell'uve trade, if he doesn't he'll be gone as well. I 'll put my house on it.
You believe Melo is the key to the franchise which ha proven not true. I put no pressure on Phil. There are some things I dont like that he did either--but trading Melo--especially for cap space might have benefits not felt immediately but are there. Hes NOT getting 3 #1 picks and 5 players for Melo.
Don't think anyone is counting on Melo being long term franchise player, KP may be. But we are not blaming him for lack of success in last three years. Specially for Phils three years of rebuilds and this year with no true PG or Center.
Questions Briggs... What If Phil rebuilds again? As he is trying to do. Do you think we will have a decent record next year? Since rebuilds take time, what free agents will want to come here? So two more years and Phil cruises on rebuild theme, then leaves us with Noah, Lee (possibly Rose) and a bunch of young question marks? Is that why we got the great Zen master?

I thought we played pretty good ball without Derrick Rose and Melo on the floor against the Nets. We are NOT starting from scratch. We have KP and Willy as staples in the starting core unit. I think we can have C lee as a sixth man or continue as a starter. As of now we have J Noah or Oquinn as a back up big. We have some role players in place with Kuz Thomas Holiday and "possibly" Jennings. Well have to evaluate Baker Plumlee Ndour going 4 ward. So I think we have a set up where we have 2 possibly 3 starters in place who are already really good. We have continuity with a lot of players--but we need an infusion at the guard positions--everyone knows that and were going to need an athletic 3 man who can play defense.(Thats why I wanted to sign Derrick Jones prior to the season and let him develop in the D league for a year) We could still do that with a Troy Williams for example--or we have 2nd round picks this year. Secondary free agents are also possible. I think going forward my personal goal would be to get a high enough draft pick to get in on one of the guards--if not we can move down to a Bridges and go SF in the draft and see if we can come back in etc... Lastly I think wed have a very legit chance WITH 25mm in cap space to offer it to Jru Holiday who i think is becoming an all star caliber PG at 26 years old. We have his brother and offer th same contract that harrison Barnes got will be touch to turn down. We need some complimentary 3 p[point shooters--you see what Sasha can do from time to time--we just need a younger version of that 1-2 of those guys like SA and GS have. Maybe one athletic 4 man But this is not a tear down and build back with KP Willy and good role players in place.

First of all it was the Nets (the worse team in the league) so it's hard to take too much out of that win. Let them do the same tonight, and see what they do during this 5 game home stand.
Phil is killing his credibility by bringing in FA, promising them playoff push's and long term goals, and then scrapping the plan half through the season and then trading them or letting them walk after a one season.
KP alone wont be a draw, the triangle has proven to be dysfunctional and a major (front page) problem with every player that comes here, since phil has been here. Players want to win and be part of the playoffs.
So if you trade melo you don't really need draft picks, you need players that will help KP, players that will be part of a plan, because right now the knicks are not an attractive team under phil. No star wants to sign here, and that clearly been proven over the last 2 off seasons.
Rose convince Noah to sign, noah convince lee to sign, Jennings saw the talent and wanted in.

Good points with Free agent question I had. True that Jru may consider playing with brother but don't think he opts to play with a team rebuilding. (as he has been there done that with Philly) And it will be hard for him to leave AD.
Willy has shown very good ability. But he is still young and we don't know at what level he can be consistent at. Specially, when defenses are more aware of him. But Agree, he was awesome against a bad BK team. Although not so good, against a good Wizard team, the day before. But yeah, prefer him over Noah and KO.
My main point was to get your feeling on the possibility Phil will get a pass after 5 years in NY by saying it was a rebuild? Which can be the case as we are counting on KP, Noah, Lee and unproven rookies to be solid NBA team. Assuming we don't attract any free agents. Which you will admit has been challenging.

How can you say that with a straight face? Pelicans are a rebuilding team
Could Carmelo Anthony Stay in New York?http://hoopshype.com/2017/02/03/nba-rumo...Lately, all of the talk surrounding Carmelo Anthony has been about where he may be traded and whether he’d be willing to waive his no-trade clause. Well, one executive offered up a different scenario that he believes may take place.
Some executives believe that Phil Jackson won’t be the president of the Knicks much longer, either because he’ll retire or because he’s made a number of questionable moves during his tenure.
The executive I spoke to suggested that Anthony might refuse to waive his no-trade clause and see what happens in the offseason with Jackson. If the Knicks and Jackson decide to part ways, then Anthony gets to stay in New York (which he truly wants to do), a lot of the behind-the-scenes drama goes away and he can see how things go with whoever replaces Jackson. Perhaps the replacement’s long-term vision is different and includes Anthony?
At some point in the future, Anthony will likely be dealt since the team will want to build around Kristaps Porzingis and get more players who are on the same developmental track as the big man. But there’s no rush to do that right now, especially since there are seemingly so few teams he’s willing to waive his no-trade clause for. Anthony waiting this out, as the exec suggested, could make sense.
