Knicks · Phil the ill subliminal (page 1)

EnySpree @ 2/3/2017 11:46 AM
He did a quiet tank to get KP... he stashed Willy for a year. Locked in KOQ.

He drafted Ron Baker and Plumlee is War!!! Signed a seasoned decorated Euro vet in Kuz. Justin Holiday was a nice pick up...

Noah sucks but his spirit off the bench will be invaluable as we move forward with Willy.

Melo is gonna find himself coming off the bench or face settling for a trade. Rose is outta here. Jennings might find himself back on the team for his sheer love of the Knicks alone.

Back to the rebuild.... we are quietly tanking in a deep lottery. We're going to get a good player in this draft. Most likely a starter.

We have the ability to maneuver players like Lee, Lance to get under the cap yet again.

We're coming up fam.

Knixkik @ 2/3/2017 11:52 AM
Complete agree. Phil did sort of a silent rebuild, despite not having 1st round picks 2 out of the 3 drafts in his presidency, while trying to win-now for Melo, Dolan, and the fans. He played both sides, and failed at 1, but in the big picture he really has us in the right direction.
Moonangie @ 2/3/2017 11:59 AM
Also totally agree. Just wish he'd get rid of some of our vet talent to improve our lottery prospects. Need to trade Melo, Rose, Lee and/or Noah. Whatever is possible.
franco12 @ 2/3/2017 12:03 PM
Be honest with yourselves - Phil thought we were going to make the play offs. On paper, perhaps we should be. But you don't turnover the roster, make absurd offers to Noah & Lee if you're thinking it's a rebuild.

He did both. He always wanted Noah on his team and not because of his play. He talked about his work and desire. He didn't turnover the roster. He traded nothing to get Rose... Rose is an expiring. He signed Lee who has cake around the league. He resigned Lance who can be moved fairly easy. Who else did he turn over? Jennings and Holiday are expiring deals. It's Frozen bruh let it go #barz

quiet tank? and to the media...we fully expect to make the playoffs?

Be honest with yourself.....you and all of us thought we were gonna make the playoffs and he definitely put a team together with more than enough talent to make the playoffs. Some were saying we'd have a shot at 4th or 5th place in the east.

I am honest- I was not a fan of the key moves in the off season. I wanted to hold and build with what we had - Lopez, Calderon.

But, yes, I thought this team had enough talent to compete for the last spot. Maybe win 38 games- not unrealistic.

Perfect example of Phil mind games applied to whole NY fan base.
Give them some meat they want and win-win regardless of it will fail or succeed.
Phil knows pretty well that making 1st round has no value in NBA. Rather it makes team mediocre for endless time.
But fans need to root for something so give them some meat or at least some bones.
Building a contender in NY is and art of deception. Who but Phil can pull it out?

Just cause you think a player works hard, you don't spend $72M, not when we had someone who cost less and started 82 games at the center position for us the year before.

crzymdups @ 2/3/2017 12:46 PM
The only way you can actually rebuild in NY is to stealth tank every year. Phil has cracked the secret code.

nobody knew willy would do what he has done, plus the market place, i believe washington was going to give noah even more, he paid the price for him.

nixluva @ 2/3/2017 2:02 PM
Phil has no choice but to try to win every year BUT at the same time keep picks and add picks and sign quality UDFA's as part of a gradual rebuild!

Also it gets overlooked that adding Players that are tradeable is smart. RoLo was a tradeable player as is KOQ and CLee. You don't want all kids that have no value. Rose is an expiring contract. Overall if the WORST you can say is he overpaid for Noah... that's not bad at all. The Media overstates the case in trying to paint the Knicks as a disaster. It's not a disaster since Phil has picks.

I watched him and Kuz in the Olympics and right away I knew both would be rotational players easy. I am not the least bit surprise at the way they play. Both would fit seamlessly into the triangle.

Go you tube them both, the skills were there from the jump, Plus NBA 2k usually nails it when it comes to players skills, and they sure did it with both of them.

It's crazy(I was watching inside stuff) how so many NBA players use NBA 2k to scout their opponents.

It was worth a shot. Nobody thought Noah would be his bad. Nobody thought the team would be this bad. We still got Rose contract coming off the books. We got Willy stepping into his role. It's still all good. Not this year but the future is still bright

The Media talks like Phil went all in and sold off youth. He didn't do that but rather left his options open. Outside of the Noah deal everything else was reasonable and didn't hamper any options to rebuild for the future.

Phil preserved our picks and actually added picks. He's kept his options open for this summer as well as the trade deadline.

Be honest about WHERE he was doing this. No other GM before him understood that if they came and tried a rebuild the city, the fans and the pout pout star would run them out the building before you can say "Momma". The ONLY way to rebuild is to first appease the Starworshippers that claim to be Knicks fans but care only about beloved bum. Hiring Rose and Noah got that done. Everyone thought this was going to be a playoff team. Instead we proved that you can't really win with Melo, AGAIN.
Now he needs to move Melo off the books and let Rose walk or trade him for picks. Noah was a bonehead move, but one we can live through. Noah doesn't kill the offense to shoot 6 -23.

Do you think that Knick fans would have run Phil out if he kept Rolo and didn't trade for Rose? Also, the Knicks did win with Melo but Phil wanted to reset and build a triangle team. Phil has been trying to build his triangle team and at the same time build a playoff team every year he has been in NY. His coaches don't have autonomy. And yeah Melo had a bad game against the Nets but what has he been doing for the last three weeks?
