Knicks · Heat to waive Derrick Williams (page 1)

Wonder what happened with this guy- I know he wasn't amazing, but he was quite good for us last season. Heat couldn't find a trade partner to dump him on despite him only making $4mil for 1 season. Any interest in bringing him back?:

The Heat on Monday planned to release forward Derrick Williams in order to keep emerging forward Okaro White, according to league sources.

White’s second 10-day contract expired on Sunday, and Miami’s only options were to sign him for the remainder of the season or risk losing him should another NBA team claim him.

Miami opted to sign White to a two-year contract, with NBA rules for capped out teams prohibiting a longer deal, according to cap expert Albert Nahmad.

The Heat had been carrying White as a 16th player after receiving an injured player’s exception, but the NBA said Miami needed to create a roster spot to keep White beyond Sunday.

The Heat explored trading Williams in recent days but was unable to find a taker.

Trading Williams would have given the Heat a chance to add a $4.6 million trade exception and also allowed the Heat to use his contract in any trade made before the Feb. 23 trade deadline.

DWill was good here tho he was still not a high BBIQ player. Kuz was brought in to replace DWill. Not an exact replacement but Kuz is smarter and more of a team fit. If we didn't have Melo, DWill could be a decent reserve IMO.

Looks like Melo fell low for you man... putting him and DWill in the same sentence sound deplorable.

I think he's saying that DWill would get the minutes and the ball to create at the 3 or 4 - something we don't need with Melo. If Melo is moved we do need more players that can create their shot.

DWill is a decent backup but that's all. He did play pretty well as a backup in his time in NY.

DWill is Fugazi!!!!

if Phil could dump LT I'd be interested in bringing DWill back

Kuz needs to find his shot real quick cause he's been cold for a while now and he's not out there for his defense.

He doesn't play defense so he would not be a great fit with the Knicks this year. However, if you could get him to sign a long term deal with non-guarantees I would do it. Last year Williams had a better year than Kuz is having so far this year. Kuz is a nice player but not a long term keeper based on age and his contract status. Players like Kuz and Williams on teams like the knicks would be best used as trade bait. If they have get years you use their inflated value to get draft picks.

I would bring him back, IMHO he would fit in with the 2nd unit nicely as 3/4 and he is already familiar with the team.
crzymdups @ 2/6/2017 4:49 PM
I don't mind DWill... but... meh...

Also, Rambis still loves him

We have a winner!!!!! TT was 6-10 and super talented!!! But was a bone head. Derrick Williams reminds me of him.
Lets not bring him back, it really didn't got hat super with him. He had a chance, said all the right things over and over, even in Miami but seemingly does not pass the muster.

I don't know how some would consider DWill good or that he was good while in NY.

Dude couldn't shoot, pass, play D. Couldn't figure out the offense or the defense.

His one specialty was his elite athleticism which were nice for highlights but that's it.

Why would you want that type of player on the team?

Why? what value does he bring? Going to help us get the 8 seed to beta the Cavs? This is a dumb thought process---he left let it go.

Knicks have Kuz and Thomas.... I would rather call up a d league guy.

I would take him back - though I don't see the room on the roster.

What I liked about him was his athleticism - there were times - small though they were- where he was able to impact the game though his athleticism.

But yes - the fact that he couldn't make it work in Miami is troubling.

Short of Lebron, no player is going to get us to the 8th seed.

This team still thinks they can make the playoffs. They're living in a land of alternate facts.
