This team is lost..The entire drama around trading Melo has effected everyone..Phil is no where to be found..It struck me to see Phil and Mills at the Cav's game because they have been so silent...It was just shocking to see them in public..I just think they are hiding somewhere...Clearly this has effected the team...KP is not the same player, Melo actually seems to be the least affected...Jenning is dying to stay in NY...Courtney Lee said, "We come here, we play, practice, do our work, get out of here, go home to our families," ...This team is done...
Rose said he thinks he is next if Melo gets traded..."Im on a one-year deal so I can't talk that much about it. The rebuild could be me going, too. I don't know," he said. "My job is to focus whenever I'm on the court, just try to win games, try to be positive, try to get better. Like I said from the beginning, I'm chasing something. I'm trying to get back to myself and I'm trying to play consistent games."
So when is Phil going to step up???..Can I ask how is it goink???..He couldn't wait to render opinions about JR and Shump after he traded them..He couldn't wait to take a shot at THJr. when he was traded...He couldn't wait to take a shot at Larkin when he left...So where is he now???..Is his twitter broken???..Come on Phil, this is New York. The fans are owed more than you are offering..Say something..Rose went MIA and we got nothing in return..That seems like a non-event these days..The team is an empty space because of you and Rosen...We need an explanation or something..

It reminds me a bit of when Mills and the Knick organization abandoned supporting Mike Woodson in his final year. Woodson couldn't even choose who a big for the last roster spot and then wasn't allowed to play Amare/KMart.

Phil has always been about building a team atmosphere and team ethos... that's been his biggest failure here.
I get that he wanted to trade Melo, but his little mind games with Melo in December seemed to completely derailed this season. On the hand you can say, "yeah Melo has to be tougher than that"... on the other hand you can say "what the hell was Phil thinking." The team was building chemistry and faith in each other... I think Phil was pouting because they had abandoned the Triangle at that player's meeting (which Phil was present for) to get their win streak going.

Melo is the only one willing to step in front of a mike in this organization..
nixluva@ 2/6/2017 10:13 PM
I actually don't mind his silence. Right now all that matters is what he's going to actually do from this point. He's got work to do and I'm sure this game pretty much made up Phil's mind that this mix of players isn't worth keeping together.
He gave it one last shot with Melo. He can move on with a clean slate. What can Melo say when Phil gave him the vets he asked for? Now it's time to move Melo and rebuild.

Agree here - Phil's decision to make the entire Melo trade saga so public has sapped pretty much all the energy and life from this team. He has sabotaged his own team. With his obvious desire to trade Melo - Phil has crippled his value. His only shot at getting a decent return will be for Lebron to really push hard on the Cavs to trade Love for Melo, and for the Knicks to find a team (Celtics?) to take Love and get some young assets and picks.
holfresh@ 2/6/2017 10:14 PM
So studio guys, specifically Al Tuartwig saying the players have to play hard even thought they don't like who they are working for..
crzymdups@ 2/6/2017 10:28 PM
Phil is probably smoking a doobie to this very song right now.

I cant imagine the Cavs would do that. Love for them is another big who also stretches the floor and is valuable to that team

Everything phil does is calculated. I don't like the lack of communication at all, but he is clearly trying to accomplish something at the expense of Melo to move in another direction. Clearly he's trying to make melo uncomfortable with the idea that it's the only way he will consider waiving his NTC.

At this point it's at the expense of his entire team, including his prized KP and Willy.

Phil and his lady thought it was appropriate to put out a public statement when they broke up...How about the status or direction of the Knicks, Phil???..And who thought Phil's breakup was news worthy???

Yea, it would be a tough sell, but we all know Lebron (not Griffen) runs the team, so we'll see. Else - we're stuck with Austin Rivers and a couple of 1st round picks in the 2020's.

Short term pain for a long term goal I guess.

At this point I think I would take it. Anything for a fresh start.

Dude, who does that..

I don't see how that would make sense right now. He's got to let this play out before he says anything. What's he gonna say? "Yeah I'm trying to trade Melo and Rose but it's hard" Phil can't talk until there's something to actually say.
fwk00@ 2/6/2017 11:28 PM
It would be idiocy for Phil to say anything until after the February trade deadline passes or until a transaction of some kind is made. You don't give away your negotiating positions for a feel good moment with a player or two. That's crazy. Just as you can't coach effort, you can't issue a memo or interview and get it either. Waste of time and no matter what he says he loses.
Professional players need to step up and give it their best every game no matter what happens. We've had teams with more heart in the last ten years - even Phil's first two Knicks teams lost but were worth rooting for.

I think its one of two reasons...Melo made him look bad when he commented on Phil's "posse" rant, so Phil wants him gone or getting rid of Melo makes the final two years of his contract an easy ride..There will be no pressure to win..
